Rating: Summary: Great products! Review: This is my first Linksys product and it was really easy to install. On the advise of my ISP (VISI) I configured it with a static IP address since I run it behind an Actiontec 1520 DSL modem/router (from Qwest). Unfortunately its signal strength is not adequate for use from my deck (must be the metal doors). The WPC54G card installed into my Compaq Armada M700 without any problems. Very impressive 45Mbit/sec speed (even with 64 bit WEP encryption)!
Rating: Summary: Linksys WRT54G Wireless 54g Router Review: Hi. I purchased both the WRT54G Router and the WPC54G Wireless notebook pc card on Amazon and have been using both products for about a week now. I have to say that for a first time buyer of networking equipment (wireless or otherwise) I'm happy about the purchase. I'm a programmer so I know something about computers but I'm definitely not a networking whiz. But Linksys, with its web based configuration and clear instructions, helped me to get set up and wireless in about 20 min. Now, I have wireless access to the Internet on my laptop, can share files with my desktop PC and can print from my laptop from anywhere in the house. (The desktop PC needs to be "on" in order to share files or to print.) It's so convenient! The first few times it was a little "flaky" but after upgrading the firmware for the router and the driver for the card it has been 100% stable so far. I'd recommend that during the initial set up you go with the defaults to make sure everything works first. Then try adding more security after reading instructions. Also, don't upgrade the firmware right away. If everything works without the upgrade don't try to fix it. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm using the both Linksys products (router and card) and that my pc and laptop are both Dell and both running XP that everything is working this well but I hope it keeps up.
Rating: Summary: Speedy network with no hassle install :-) Review: Very happy after 1 month of use. Had network working in less than 1 hour. Setup would have been even quicker but for 128 bit WEP/Mac Filtering that I was implementing; Linksys CD Setup program took my existing cable modem configuration and seamlessly transferred this to the modem configuration; Very simple. Not bad for a product described as being suited for "early adopters" in the editorial review. I bought the linksys wireless G card for my notebook same time I bought router. No issues whatsoever. If you have a portable, I recommend buying the linksys wireless G card if you really want the performance/ease of setup I experienced. There is a risk using other cards. For instance, I borrowed a friend's compaq tablet PC with an 802.11b internal wireless card and I couldn't get it working without disabling WEP. The tablet PC also had to be in same room as the router to get signal. I believe this was more a problem with tablet PC internal wireless card than it was with this router. Besides, when you use mixed mode (G and B), you'll get the slower speed which defeats the purpose of having the faster wireless G solution.
Rating: Summary: 54G is the way to go Review: This is a tremendous product. Why go the 802.11b when you can go G? This router was extremely easy to install. I hooked it up to a Windows XP machine which houses the cable internet connection in about 15 minutes. I now have a wireless internet connection on my Windows 2000 machine upstairs at a blazing 54Mbps, very cool.
Rating: Summary: beta testing on the public Review: I have spent more time on the user support line with Linksys than working lately. I purchased this router with a PC card for a laptop almost two months ago and have had almost no use of it. The user support people were kind and patient (I should know since I really got to know them) but the product simply has too far too many flaws to be sold right now. I was eventually referred to "second level support" and then a "senior support" person and have had to pack and ship three routers back and forth before the current one (which works most of the time but is slower than when removed from the modem). It is totally inappropriate and negligent to sell a product that requires firmware downloads every couple of days to patch flaws and hours of sifting through arcane jargon and sitting on help lines to get running, and don't forget shipping on your own dime and trips to the post-office etc. I would beware of gear-heads recommending this product. Unless you enjoy solving all the detailed problems for a company that just charged you for the product you are now fixing for them, you may be better off sticking with the B-protocol routers of other companies or just waiting for this one to be truly ready for the public.
Rating: Summary: The Best of Three tried Review: Works perfectly, exactly as expected. This is the third brand I tried, Proxim was the worst- forget it, max range was 15 feet tops. WRT54G carries several hundred feet through walls, corners, anything plus it has four hard wire ports. Fast Clean easy I have the matching PC card also works great.
Rating: Summary: Best Product, Best Price, and Great Choice Review: WRT54G is compliant to the latest IEEE802.11g version 6.1. It simply work right out of the box. Rich features, solid products, and very easy to use. For a cool $, this is the best performance wireless router available. WRT54G is backward compatible with our current 802.11b wireless clients. WRT54G was designed for home and office use. Soon become mainstream as well. We deploying few WRT54G at work and continue to add more without breaking budgets.
Rating: Summary: Pleased Review: I bought the Linksys WRT54G router along with the G cards yesterday and at first i had problems getting the cards to connect with the router. I think this could have been due to me not uninstalling the previous D-Link cards I had properlly.(Returned cause of lack of range). The range with this product isnt bad, though I am unable to get a connection in my bedroom with is about 120 feet away from the router. This maybe be due to me living in an apartment in Paris where the buildings are old and most likely the walls cause more inteference then a more modern building. For some strange reason though, I am able to get a signal in my basement which is 3 stories down. Thats where I am right now, having a good old Shesha. I'll try moving the router later and see if I can maybe get reception in my bedroom. Overall though, I would recommend this product. The range is a bit dodgy but the speeds are impressive. Hope I helped.
Rating: Summary: wireless in SF Review: Generaly speaking I am very happy with this unit, but I have had problems with the base unit and my 2.4 ghz cordless phone. Within the first month, I have had to restart and reprogram my base unit twice. I have since killed my phone and have not had any problems since. The range is good, I can access within my house, deck and yard. I have not tried going to my neighbor's house, but I would probably be able to get service there too.
Rating: Summary: Works great for me. Ensure you update the firmware Review: I'm using this at home as my main router associated with my DSL connection. Works fine for both wireless and wired connections. I have the WPC54G card on a WinXP laptop and get good (60%) signal throughout the entire house (router sits in the basement). Ensure you get the latest firmware/driver upgrades for the router and/or PC card(s). Linksys has terrible technical support, but I'm willing to overlook that given the price/functionality of the product.
