Rating: Summary: Don't plan on receiving technical support Review: After receiving the second unit, first was defective, spent 90 minutes on the phone with tech support trying to resolve an installation issue with the laptop card. Laptop crashed during windows installation and could neither finish installing or uninstall the product. Tech support said I had to call NEC, because the computer messed up the registry. Finally talked to a supervisor (not second level support) who said to call microsoft so they could edit the registry. He supposidly emailed me the registry edit directions. Finally searched and destroyed any registry items related to linksys and wireless. Second installation went extremely well, with no issues. I managed to mess up router configuration, by creating static addresses. Round two with tech support again. They insisted they do not provide networking support, they only support internet connection. I've rated this 3 stars only because the product, once properly configured is working extremely well. Do not depend on any kind of support from Linksys with this product.
Rating: Summary: Works beautifully for me! Review: I have had no problems what so ever with this router. I am actually more than satisfied. It took about 10 minutes to install (only because my wires were a mess!) and the range is far beyond what I expected. It reaches a room about 150 feet away through walls and TVs with blazing speed. I would recommend this router to anybody that needs a wireless router!
Rating: Summary: Interoperability, a pipe dream? Review: Well I unpacked this and set it up with a few minor glitches here and there, but eventually they all ironed themselves out. The big straw breaker though was the fact that the wireless router would stop working with my ADSL router after about 5 minutes. No real apparent reason, it would just stop communicating. I am still not sure as to which device is the culprit, but I did manage a work around by using a cross over cable from the ADSL router into the switch (LAN) portion of the wireless device. I then just put in static IPs since this is the only place I will probably be using the wireless aspect. Just thought I would throw this out there in case anyone else is having similar problems. Other than the price it might be nice to have a monoply company out there, as long as they get all their gear to work together in harmony.
Rating: Summary: Its OK.. But not that Good Review: I bought this router along with WPC54G pc card hoping it will work like a charm, but all its given me are problems since the minute I installed it. Changed 2 WRT54G routers and WPC54G pc cards.. yes 2 routers and 2 pc cards.. am on the 3rd ones now. Same old problems, connection keeps disconnecting again and again. Have the latest firware and drivers installed, but nothing ever worked. For some wierd reason it worked for one week without a single issue, but again its back to the same disconnection issues. Overall I rated it 3 stars coz of its speed which is good..atleast for me as I sit about 12-15 feet from the router and get Excellent signal at 54 Mbps and can transfer large files(when it doesnt keep disconnecting) with amazing speeds. A gig of data can easily be transferred in 10-12 mins max.
Rating: Summary: Does not support AOL Review: AOL will tell you all Linksys routers are supported, but they are incorrect. They do not support any 802.11g routers yet. Linksys doesn't make this info available until you run into problems. They tell you to buy the BEFW11S4.
Rating: Summary: I like it Review: I now have a new sotec notebook. Its my first notebook and I once had it connected to my local school network. As i hate being bound by a troublesom wire to my old d-link router i need to go to wireless. I didnt want to go to 802.11b becuse i wanted something new. So i decided to go with 802.11g. I bought this and also the linksys 802.11g card. I love it. Setup was a breeze (I did have to go out and buy a cross-over cable thou cat-5e). I was up and running my network in lets say 5 min to keep it nice. I then set up security and everything. I love it I can be 2 floors down my dorm and still get a "Good connection" at 32.mbps. or if I am on my floor I get 54 just about everywhere. I once had it at "Mixed mode" so others with there 802.11b can join in but I take that off every once and a while just to mess with them. So I love this product. Linksys did a great job
Rating: Summary: Easier than Expected Review: I'm middle of the road computer savvy but Linksys sure made it easy with this one. It installed in minutes and worked without a hitch. The range is rather limited if you expect wired-like performance. Change floors, turn a corner and you are sqeaking through a fairly small pipe. That said, definitely don't waste your money on 802.11b because if G is five times faster I couldn't stand to be on B except in the same room as the access point. I am VPNing to work so I am dealing with large files. If you are just surfing, B might be OK.
Rating: Summary: 802.11b products do not work Review: Out of the box my 802.11b network cards would not connect until I upgraded the firmware in the router. The Linksys web site does not address this problem. This is a good product that I could recommend to anyone once the firmware is upgraded.
Rating: Summary: Great functionality in a small box for little money !!! Review: Excellent product. I have purchased it to multiply IP addresses available from Cable. Works great as DHCP server and NAT machine. Radio section allows me to obtain 54MBit within whole area of my flat.
Rating: Summary: Linksys - my favorite Review: I bought this router last week, from Amazon, despite the fact that there were many reviews claiming that it is really hard to install it and it takes hours of fone-call with linksys support to set it up and all that. But the real fact is it took me less than 15 minutes to install it. I spent more than 5 minutes of this time trying to pry open the packaging. It worked with my 802.11b card as well as my 802.11g wireless card instantly. The range is very good too.
