Summary: Troublesome To Install, But a Dream To Use
Review: I've been using one of these for about three months now, and although I had to spend a rather frustrating afternoon trying to install it, it now works like a dream. I'm not sure what the problem was, as I'd followed the instructions to the letter, but like I say, it got going eventually.

The router itself is fairly easy to configure. It's all done through your web browser. You don't need to be a network engineer to get it to talk to your ISP, just a bit of common sense.

The range isn't great, but then, I think that's down to the Wi-Fi spec and not so much an issue of this particular model. Typically, I've found that a signal will struggle to find it's way through three plasterboard walls. It'll get through a brick wall, but not much further.

I'm running it with a cable modem, which is running at 1Mbps downstream, and 256kbps upstream, with two PC's hard-wired into it and one 'roaming' laptop. It behaves flawlessly, and quite transparently too. I've never had to touch the 'port forwarding' menu - games seem to play online without any problems or need for modification, as do chat clients like MSN Messenger.

The unit itself feels well-built and sturdy. You get the impression that it could take a knock if you dropped it off your desk - others I've seen look a little more flimsy.

In short, it's a smashing piece of kit, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a wireless network in their home or office.

Summary: So far, so good
Review: I recieved the wireless router today and it took less than 10 minutes to setup properly. I also bought the 54g wireless card and everything works fine. Another thing I liked about this router was that the default settings were great so you didn't have to go shuffling around different options in order to get things up and running. Great product by a great home networking company(they just got bought by Cisco BTW).

Summary: Easy as insert the disk and go...finished
Review: I just recieved this product from amazon after looking at everything out there...The speed is just as fast as running my 10/100 line directly, which I am doing on two machines running Win2000 through the router...set up on those machines took 5 minutes on the first one, and the connection on the second machine took 2 minutes...I went wireless with the PCI card on another machine running Win XP, after removing my ethernet card and installing the new wireless PCI (which took about 5 minutes)I inserted the disk and was on in about another 3 minutes. All in all I am very happy with it all...

you may have to disconect your internet security and virus scan the first time you try to get on the internet but turn it back on while you are still on line and you will never have to do it again my internet security program (norton 2003) programm,ed itself to handle it all...

have fun...

Summary: Easy and Perfect
Review: I had this router up and working in less than 15 minutes, that includes typing in the 28 digit WEP code. It was easy.
As far as performance- so far so good. I get reception where I want and the signal has no problem shooting through my house.
I'm thinking about adding the booster just so I can use my laptop in the backyard this summer- but for all necessary use, this router works very well.

Summary: Nightmare!
Review: Well, I've bought a WRT54G and a WPC54G notebook adapter to have a nice, fast wireless connection to my desktops connected directly to fast ethernet. However, since the begining, I have problems to keep the connection up and running, I've updated firmware on WRT54G and notebook drivers. But it's getting worse. In certain moment, my notebook stopped to connect at all, so I've contacted Linksys support to get directions. They sent me a new notebook driver package (that seems to be different from one available to download, it's XP certified) and I've been able to reconnect. However, connections don't last more than 4 minutes, even if I'm seeing WRT54G. I'm gonna return it, but I'm really frustrated, after 4 Linksys routers I've bought in the past with 100% satisfaction, this wireless router disappointed me big.

Summary: Great Product
Review: Our router has been up and running now for over a month. It works exactly as advertised and was easy to install (coming from a 1st time user). The range and signal strength is good all over the house including the basement. A++

Summary: Good, but
Review: I have been very happy with the router. However, there are 2 fundamental problems:

1) the router only runs RIP, and not (say) EIGRP. that's slow and clunky.

2) The router does NOT SUPPORT WIRELESS BRIDGING. Very, very frustrating.

Other than that, it's good.

Summary: Linksys WRT54G Delivers as Promised
Review: After reading every review here of this item, I was a little hesitant to purchase it but decided that there was just as many or more positive reviews as there were negative.

I purchased the Router, the 54G Notebook Adapter and the 54G PCI adapter at the same time.

I was in the process of installing the software for the router and ran in to my 1st and only problem. The install CD reported that there was no internet connection when going through the checks, when infact there was indeed a connection. I called Tech Support (only 5 min wait on a Friday afternoon) I'm sorry to report that the first Tech was clueless, and even told me after 30 minutes on the phone that the problem was my Windows 98SE Operating system. I knew better than this, told him thanks and hung up. Five minutes later I contacted Tech Support again. (If you don't get someone knowledgeable the first time around, just call back.) The lady that responded to my question immediately asked who my Internet Provider is and upon finding out that it is Adelphia told me to disregard the Setup CD and do the Setup manually as per her directions. In five minutes the Router was configured to my host PC and my Laptop was also running (didn't need any help with the Laptop and had installed everything for it earlier in the day) My router is located on the top floor of my house and so far my signal rate is at least 65% throughout the house and I can say this is just fine for internet access. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend this router. Tommorrow I will install the PCI adapter in my other PC. Oh by the way, I am running three different Operating Systems. Windows 98SE on the host computer, Windows 2000 on the Laptop and Windows XP on the second PC.

Summary: Up and surfin in less then 5 minutes
Review: After reading all the reviews on this product the first thing I did was upgrade the firmware. The Linksys upgrade exe program didn't work so I downloaded the bin file and upgraded it using the routers web based setup screen. That upgrade went great and from there I started setting up security. Since I run my work laptop on this network and I suffer from OCD I used the the following: renamed the SSID, disabled broadcast, enabled WEP, MAC address filtering oh yeah and did I mention I utilize a VPN connection as well. The first thing I did after that was configure my Palm Tungsten C. I hit connect and BAM!!! I was surfin with my PDA! The Linksys 54G Router is a great product and it's very easy to setup, even when utilizing all the security features. ;)

Summary: A must have for the low income high tech home
Review: A very very good router. The only thing wrong with it that sometimes there is conflict between it and a 2.4Ghz cordless phone. I have two laptops with G PC cards for them. Everything works great, except for when my roommate decides to be a smart-alec and disables it. I haven't had any problems concerning security. If you have people you know with B cards, you can tell them to come on over. The only problem with this is that you get stuck with 11Mbps also. But you can set it to G-only. The wireless utility manager lets you connect anywhere in a flash. It doesn't handle thick walls so well, but an access point will clear that right up. If you got the money though, go and get the A+B router and cards, and set it up to A only mode; that way you don't have any phone issues at all.
