Rating: Summary: Bitter Sweet PPPoE Review: Had the configuration gone as instructed, this would be a five star product. "Can't connect to PPPoE," was the order of the day. Linksys tech support (hats off to, btw) had me deeper under the hood than the manuals illustrate. If you're frustrated, I hear your pain - but look at it this way... You're learning!
Rating: Summary: Not comptible with AOL DSL Review: I am so dissapointed to say I have to returen the wireless router and cards I ordered. I spend a whole day trying to hook it up to my dsl. After I tried everything, I turned to the Technicle surport for linksys. I was told the model I ordered(advertised to be very easy to hook up) isn't compible with my Aol dsl. So I have to return them. I called, but fail to remember the address to return it. And I don't know why should I pay the shipping for that? It is not my fault.:(
Rating: Summary: Easy setup. Painless as can be... Review: Using the quick install had my Dell laptop & desktop running in 15 min.
Rating: Summary: problem with windows 2000 Review: I have 2 computers at home with one running xp and the other one running windows 2000. I'm getting bad connection with my windows2000 machine even it is closer to the router.
Rating: Summary: Great Linksys AP Review: Great Product works good and Daisy Chains Uber good. the only thing I do not like about it is that when I set it to lease the ip address 's for any amount of time it will just keep leaseing out the same ip every 5 mins. other than that its super kool
Rating: Summary: Peformance problem Review: I just got the adapter with the wireless dsl router. I had little trouble installing the router and adapter (on windows 2000 machine), just had to find the right cable connecting to the dsl modem, and only got a BLUE SCREEN once. I was exciting for 2 mins after connecting to the wireless router but then my connection dropped. I was then able to establish connection but only got 1Mbs. I have my dsl router in the living while the PC is on the second floor. So now I guess I will just run the wire from the second floor to the living room. I'm glad I got the router and the adapter from amazon so I can easily return it.
Rating: Summary: Works well once you work out any configuration kinks. Review: I bought my WRT54G and WPC54G back in Jan/Feb. I had a wired Linksys 4-port router for YEARS and it was a SOLID performer.Setup for the WRT54G required some aches and pains. Granted they tell you right on the box that it is based on draft protocols, but I would have straightened a few problems myself with clearer communication or documentation from Linksys. Registration for this product should include subscription to a technical e-mail list notifying users of firmware and driver updates as well as the lates technical articles and an 802.11g ratification update. I don't mind that the product is based on "draft" protocols, but proactively notify me about updates! You can even use the .NET Alerts to IM me about new firmware! It was after I performed a firmware upgrade that I started to encounter problems maintaining a connection with the router. I upgraded to enable the SocketCom 802.11b CF NIC for my iPAQ to use the WRT54G. The upgrade is mandatory for many 802.11b devices to hear the WRT54G and I believe it's the standard shipping firmware now. Anyways, after I upgraded, my WPC54G started dropping connection every 4-5 minutes. I could manually force XP to reconnect only to find myself disconnected 4-5 minutes later. It was HIGHLY annoying and made the wireless useless. I just got off the phone with LinkSys support (yes, at 2am EST Wednesday and a 1-800 number!) and they recommended unchecking the "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network". Voila! I've been connected continuously ever since. A previous technician told me via LinkSys online support chat, that I should try changing channels. But he could not tell me why this would fix the problem. Of course, it did not work. But I believe that chat support for complex technology products can get tricky. Other than this annoyance, I have been very happy with Linksys hardware. It gets the job done and is rock solid once you get it up and running. I can't remember the last time I had to reset any LinkSys router. I recommend that everyone do a security lock-down on their wireless hardware. Disable SSID broadcast, enable 128-bit WEP, and refrain from enabling remote administration.
Rating: Summary: Not good for online gaming Review: The router works great...EXCEPT... several times a day the connection gets interrupted, just long enough to disconnect online games. I had to go back to using my netgear switch. Very disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Great product, especially as an upgrade Review: I upgraded to this unit after using a Linksys BEFSR81 (DSL router with 8-port switch) with a Linksys WAP11 v2.2 for about 1 year. I had always had wacky problems with the old WAP11 unit, and could never get WEP encryption to work perfectly. The new WTC54G unit corrects these issues, and I have essentially combined two boxes into one. I've had the experience of dealing with Linksys tech support in the past, and I'm pleased to say that I have NOT had to deal with them this time around to set up the 54G unit (thankfully, since Linksys support is generally poor.) I have had nothing but success with the 54G, and I use most of its advanced features such as port forwarding, MAC filtering, etc. Everything works as expected, and performance is very good. So, to sum up: unit works great, and in my case was a very good upgrade from older equipment (which, by the way, has good resale value.) If you have problems (which I did not), don't expect great tech support from Linksys. It helps to be knowledgeable with network equipment (as with any computer/technology products), but if you are novice, I suspect that this unit will still work excellent with zero configuration, right out of the box. Make sure to take security precautions and save yourself the risk of having your LAN intruded on. I live in a city and *routinely* connect (accidentily) to neighbors wireless LAN's and am able to surf the Internet on their dime. Its only until I try to access one of my other machines (on my LAN) that I realize I'm not even on my own LAN! Wireless users beware!
Rating: Summary: Even Me ¿ the Gadget Klutz ¿ Had it Running in No Time Review: Being something of an electronic gadget klutz, I admit to having trepidations when I ordered this piece of equipment. I had never set up a network -- to say nothing of a wireless one. When the product arrived, I could not have been more surprised at the ease of set-up. Following the advice of the quick start instructions and set-up CD included in the package, I had the network up and running in less than five minutes. Not even a glitch. In what seemed to be no time, I was wirelessly surfing the web with no apparent loss of speed compared to my wired connection. To sum it up, this is a great product.
