Summary: The bad and the ugly
Review: I purchased the linksys to hook up my brand new compaq Evo1000n. After the install, my laptop would just keep re-booting. I went to the Linksys website and downloaded the new driver (in accordanced with their website trouble-shooting page). Still kept re-booting. I went to their "live web-support" and got bounced to the "sorry---we are too busy now..leave us an e-mail". I tried this the next morning (the system said there were only 3 "people" ahead of me). Again, no support contact. So, I took it back to Best Buy----got a Microsoft wireless product....plugged it in...no issues! Any company that hides from the customer deserves a review like this! Get the Microsoft product!

Summary: An Excellent choice for a Router
Review: This router is very good. As can be expected from all wireless routers, configuration takes a little bit, but this is a very powerful router. It has a 4 port switch, for used with wired devices, and it also features the latest in Wireless Technology, Wireless-G. This works great with the WPC54G. I have mine set up to not broadcast and I have 64 bit WEP Enabled. That is for security purposes, and I suggest you do the same. This is an excellent router, and if you are looking for the latest technology, from an Excellent company, the WRT54G is the one. Linksys makes the best networking products around, and this is thier best product that I have come across.

Summary: LINKSYS WRT54G... Up in 10 minutes!
Review: I just received my Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router and simply followed the direction included. They recommend that you first install the included install disk and follow the directions. Right after the first step, where it is suppose to go check the network, the wizard died, saying that I had no internet connection (where in fact I did... and was certain I did). I tried again and the wizard failed again. By the way, I'm using Windows 2000/NT. I then resorted to installing the "manual" way, following the directions included. Setting up the router took a whole 3 minutes. I then installed my wireless PCMCIA card in my laptop and that installation took only a few minutes too. Shazam!... I was on the internet, wireless nevertheless!
Not too bad for a rookie, Ay?

Summary: Ultra Easy to install...
Review: I purchased the Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router and the WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter. I am running Windows XP and the PCI Card installation was as simple as plugging the card in the PCI slot on your PC, running the installation disc and answering questions that Windows XP had already answered correctly for you and clicking "next" and that was basically it!!

The Router installation was just as easy. Just insert the disc and answer the basic, simple questions. I know nothing about networking and this was easy even for me. I would recommend these two products to anyone.

Summary: Easy installation, but not good on long distances.
Review: Installation was easy, 10min or so and everything was installed. I had some problems when i turned the Secuirty Encryption on (WEP). After turning this feature on, the wireless network could not be found. I checked my laptop and everything but i could not fix it. So i just left it off.

One thing that i dont like about this WRT54G Wireless-G Access Point + Cable/DSL Router is that the range is not so great. My dad wants to use the laptop in his bedroom which is 4 walls away from here and the signal that he gets is really low. It only connects up to 2mbps instead of the 54. So we need to buy a booster signal attachment or move the router to the middle of the house and buy me a PCI wireless card for my PC. I already spent 170 for the Notebook card and the Router, so i dont want to spend 60more for the PCI card.

I just wish that the range was more powerfull.

Summary: CONFIGURATION NIGHTMARE
Review: I ordered this hoping all the rave reviews would be my experience vs. the really negative reviews. I was wrong. I believe this little device could do all it claims if it can ever be configured properly. User documentation is a joke and LinkSys HelpLESS desk is not much better. Was attempting to connect this router to my ISP's router which some reviewers had success in doing with cross over cables and static ip's. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them. 3 days lost messing with this and Linksys tech support was really weak. I knew more than they did about their product. To quote one 'tech' "I'm confused"...duh! I'm convinced all the calls went to some outsourcer in India to boot so getting through was an ordeal in itself.

If you have a very simple setup and don't care too much about security you may be very happy with this. I can only reason that all the rave reviews by first time non-tekkie users is based on not needing alot of functionality and using device defaults. But if you need anything more YOU need to know what you are doing because help is non-existant. I'm sure this could be a great addition to a home network but it will take someone savvier than me to get it to work. Good luck if you decide to go ahead with this product!

Summary: Linksys WRT54G and WMP54G
Review: The Linksys 54G All-in-one Router (WRT54G) is a great product. After getting through the initial configuration problems with help from the free tech support phone service, my wireless network was up and running perfectly. I was a little concerned with how well the network would work in my home since I have thick cinder walls, but I've always received 54MBPS since installing this router. The Linksys products seem to work best with other Linksys products. I purchased and installed the 54G PCI card (WMP54G) in my desktop and a Cisco B-band wireless card in my laptop and the Linksys PCI Card picked up the network instantly, while the Cisco card needed some utility finaggling to get it to work. I highly recommend this product.

Summary: Get some teenager to install this thing and smile
Review: I am fairly knowledgeable about computers. It probably would have taken me a half day to install this thing and reconfigure the Macs on my mixed system. Instead I found a teenager in the neighborhood, who knew Macs and PCs well, to do it for me. It took him less than 45 minutes to configure everything. Works like a charm. Could I have done this reading the Linksys instructions? No way. If you're working in a mixed PC and Mac environment you better know what you're doing ahead of time.

Summary: Great product!!!
Review: I got the Linksys BEFW11P1 about a year and a half ago. It is horrible! I had to return it once and still had the same problems--> needs reboot + reset about 5 times a day.
I called Linksys tech support about 20 times and they asked me to do this and that with no difference. They even told me to replace my Cisco cards to Linksys, which I did. It was even worst with the Linksys cards!
Finally I got tried and called again Linksys tech support (probably the 21st time...). There was a nice tech guy who told me (off the record) that BEFW11P1 is the worst model they have and I should upgrade to WRT54G as it's one of their best. However, he said if I have AOL it might cause some problems (fixable he said). I have BellSouth as ISP so it's not applicable to me.

Sure, did... I got the WRT54G and VUALLA! it's working great for several days. NO NEED TO REBOOT OR RESET 5 TIMES A DAY...
It took me about 30 seconds to get it out of the box, set my PPPoE settings, change some security settings (don't need my neighbors to use my xDSL, *LOL*) and here you go surf the web!

If you're looking for a reliable router, THIS IS THE PRODUCT FOR YOU!
