Summary: Disable Firewall For Installation
Review: I purchased the WRT54G and the wireless Print Server (WPS54GU2), I could not get them to work initially, tried the on-line supoort - knowledge base and on-line chat - no-help. Went back to reinstall from scratch and disabled my McAfee Firewall and presto, it all worked.

I was surprised that support did not ask the question first "Do you have a firewall up and running?" I also did a quick search on the knowledge base and there was no mention of disabling firewall. I would agree their support appears very weak.

Once done, I enabled McAfee firewall and the network worked fine.

Summary: Great Router. Easy to setup & easy to use.
Review: I'm new to the wireless scene and I chose to go with Linksys because their prodcuts have never let me down, so I picked up the WRT54G Router & WMP11 802.11b PCI card for my computer. Very easy to set up, with in 15 minutes I was online surfing the web. It's giving me a about 70% signal strength with the router being upstairs and my computer being several rooms away. I have been able to receive wireless signal across the street from my PDA with decent signal levels, I'm just waiting for my new notebook PC to see how well the signal strength is on the go.

Summary: Great but beware of concrete walls..
Review: My apartment has concrete walls, and It seems that If you have to cross more than two walls, the signal deteriorates to about 10 to 15% with some interruptions. So be prepared to re-cable your house in order to place the router at an appropriate place.

Other than that, the installation is quite easy.

Summary: Easy to set up, AND reliable
Review: Before this unit arrived, I tried to 'read up' on how to install it...what a waste of time. You just plug it in, really. The web-based configuration makes it easy to set up security...MAC filtering, IP assignments, WEP, port filtering, etc. I'm extremely pleased with this unit so far.

Summary: Sorta Satisfied
Review: Have both the WRT54G, version 1.0 and 1.1. When I upgraded the firmware of the Version 1.0 to firmware version 1.42.3 from 1.30.7 I lost the ability to disable the wireless function without a power reset. Was told that 1.42.3 was not for V1.1. That was the only version available for upgrade. Then was told by support to upgrade to v 1.43, which is not available to general public yet. Then told to go back to v 1.42.2 which did not cure the problem. Have found Tech support, which is outsourced to another country, unsatisfactory. They also do not answer emails. Have the same firmware problem with the V1.1 router.

Summary: Awsome for Beginners
Review: If you want to start a home Wireless network and have either a Cable modem or DSL, this is the product for it. I purchased this plus 3 Linksys Wireless G PCI cards and I now run 5 computers from one connection in my home. The setup was VERY easy and the product was up and running and accepting connections. 5 minutes worth of tweaking and presto, encryption and a locked down network. I run not only all of our PC's off this one device (3 wireless and 2 wired) but I also run my X-BOX wirelessly. I work on computers and networks professionally and have set up a few wireless networks. This device makes it so easy that I am afraid I might be out of a job. Definetly a must buy.

Summary: Miserable customer support
Review: I have had (and still have) several wireless routers from different companies. This seemed to work OK until it stopped connecting to the internet (after maybe 6 months). I tried an SMC which worked fine so I knew the problem was in this router. I spent an hour on the phone with 2 "customer service" reps who just wanted to verify what the problem was over and over. I was disconnected from the first (by accident or on purpose) after 25 minutes. I called right back. The second one diudn't even get their procedures right (I had just been through them 3 times) as he skipped necessary steps (Like telling me to open properties of the network connections icon in control panel rather thn opening it and going to the connection at issue.) After 20 more minutes of this, I asked to speak to a supervisor. He put me on hold for 7 minutes then came on and told me I would be transferred. I got 3 rings -- then a dial tone. Linksys seems to have farmed out customer support to a call center where the people are very hard to understand, where they seem to know nothing, and where they seem so inattentive that they lose track of where they are in their checklists. I will never buy linksys again. That's the only way to not have to deal with these folks since problems with the equipment arise with some frequency.

Summary: Awful customer support: Don't buy this product
Review: I've had my router for about 6 months and the product stopped working. I've tried the knowledge base on their site (which is useless) and also tried to contact customer support. The first time I was on hold @ 7am on a Sunday morning for over 30 minutes... I gave up. I then tried to call back and have now been on hold over 45 minutes...and still haven't spoken w/ anyone. Buy a different product and save yourself the frustration.

Summary: Good Value
Review: I was very pleasantly surprised with the ease of setup and performance of this Wi-Fi router. In my home, I have 2 Macs (1 osx, 1 os8) a win2000 desktop, & a Toshiba centrino laptop with built-in Wi-Fi running winXP. All were up and running in literally minutes. The default settings worked fine with my cable modem (using DHCP). Custom settings are easily adjusted using the web-page configuration utility. All in all a good deal. I deducted 1 star for signal strength since there are some areas of my house that the signal is weak, though still usable.

Summary: Excellent quality and performance.
Review: I recently purchased the Wireless G Router and a Wireless G PCMCIA notebook card. Although the instructions should have been a little more in depth, I did not have much trouble setting it up. The average user may have difficulty with certain aspects of the setup. Overall, this product provides excellent performance and reliability, in an affordable package.
