Rating: Summary: BAD Macintosh Support Review: I bought this to connect Macs at home and had read that is was particularly easy to do with this router. The dhcp server was not assigning an IP address so I called tech support. First, they did try to help, but it didn't work. Since I had a Mac I would have to pay for their premium support, Windows users do not. No where on their website does it say that Mac support is extra. I ended up returning the product.
Rating: Summary: Netgear MR814 Review: Easy to set up using Windows XP. Instruction are easy to read. The only thing I don't like about it is the WAN connection to the dsl / cable modem is 10M, not 100M. I see a little differnce in the speed when surfing the net. Wirless connection is about the same.
Rating: Summary: Great router and great price Review: I have been using this MR814 router (with MA101 USB adapter) for over 2 weeks now, and things are running with no problems. The initial installation was very easy. I have a cable modem using Cox-cable as ISP; the cable company has dynamic IP addressing which made things easy. Activating WEP-encryption is also painless. Just work with passwords that are "random" but easy to remember (e.g. 12AB34CD12AB34CD...). You'll have to specify the WEP-password for each wireless-adapter that is activated.
Rating: Summary: Worked as dreamed of... Review: I bought the MR814 last night and it took only about an hour before I had read the instructions and was up and running. The price was great with the rebates and unlike my bad experiences with Linksys, this required absolutely no configurations with IP addresses and no software. Just plugged the router in and I was online through it! I then installed the wireless Netgear adaptor software (drivers) and was up and surfing on the other computer. The signal strength is mediocre, but it beats the heck out of 28.8 and having to pay for another ISP and second phoneline!
Rating: Summary: Flawless Product! Review: I love this router! Actually, I am using it more as an access point. It works great. It was up in running in a second. All I did was install my new netgear wireless card and then plugged in this router and everything worked! What can I say. I've read that the range on this is excellent but havent' tested it out yet. It works great, the price is awesome with the ...rebate from netgear and ... rebate from Amazon[.com], and the design is smooth.
Rating: Summary: Router Worked Great Review: Followed the directions which were very simple and included plugging it in, bringing up the web page, autodetecting my DSL connection, typing in the user name and password, and I was up and running in 10 minutes. The Netgear 802.11b card was totally plug and play, it took 2 minutes to go wireless on a HP 6000 W98 and and an IBM 240X WME. No complaints
Rating: Summary: Simply Great Review: i connected the router, powered up, it detected PPPoE stuff pretty quickly. Changed my PC LAN settings to get its ip address from dhcp, and i was on the internet. Edited basic stuff in the Wireless section, setup WEP 128-bit key....got on my laptop which is a XP-Pro with Aironet wireless card...configured a new profile in ACU, and was a "go" for the internet within no time. Very simple, reliable and easy to setup stuff, at an awesome price. - KK
Rating: Summary: Worked out-of-box. No configuration was required. Review: This is a great router. My cable company has dynamic IP and no passwords. I just had to connect this router between my cable modem and computer and plug in the power. It did not require any configuration. I also bought a wireless PC card for my laptop. That worked too without any issues. I installed the driver as suggested and that was it. My computer has Windows 95 and the laptop has WIndows 2000. ... I have the router in the basement and can take my laptop any place in my two storey house.
Rating: Summary: MR814 - Serious Timeout Problems Review: I'm using Verizon DSL with Dynamic IP address, and the MR814 loses my IP address between 2-3 times/week. I then have to power-down the router, and then restart my PCs. This is an issue that has been cited on other bulletin boards. I seriously encourage you to do more research on this before you purchase. On the plus side, the product is easy to set up with nice menus/configuration. It looks great wherever you put it.
Rating: Summary: Sleek and Functional, Yet Still a Wise Choice Review: If you want one of the most easiest routers to set up, then I suggest you buy this great Netgear product. The router even looks good. It is silver metallic and has a nice silver grill detail on the back of it where the 4 port 10/100 intgegrated switch is located. Even the network status lights look hip with their small and minamalist design. Now to the important part. This was my first time setting up any sort of network, and after doing it, I find it very rewarding and easy with this router. After hooking up my cable connection to the uplink port, then hooking up my computer and my Xbox (with Xbox Live online gaming service) to the switch, I turned it off. Then I set up 2 more wireless computers on to it. After all was done, the router saw all of the computers and gave me options to configure it now. An absolutely excellent router for amateurs and beginners, and also for some intermediate skilled people. You'll be glad you switched to wireless!....
