Rating: Summary: 1 Minute Install Review: I'm not kidding. I just plugged it in, setup the DSL settings using the auto function, setup encryption, and that was it. It found my laptop and desktop pc. I'm using XP and 2000. I setup the pc printer to share. I live in a 2-bedroom apartment and I can get 90 % signal anywhere in it. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Not happy with performance Review: Purchased this a month ago and have been rather unhappy with this product, which gives unstable wireless performance.I was attracted to Netgear by the rebate, and now I regret it. I should have bought a Linksys wireless router/AP instead, I think. My wifi-ready laptop is about 50 feet away from the Netgear router. There are about 4 walls in between, and reception is poor. About 20% of the time it's fair, 30% of the time poor, and 50% of the time (when I try to use Internet) it's unavailable. This performance is just not acceptable. The manual set is also poorly written. You get two pieces of printed materials: a confusing starter sheet, and an ISP information sheet. Get this: on the printed "get started" sheet it asks you to refer to the manual on the CD-ROM before you should turn your PC back on! What kind of genius wrote this? Luckily I'm a techie so I had no trouble deciphering the non-English guide. The router's major strength is its cool design, but its poor signal strength means you should probably go with a more established brand like Linksys or D-Link.
Rating: Summary: Great Product Review: I've been using this router for 3 months now and it has worked flawlessly. It's extremely easy to set up and configure. I would definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Superb Review: This is the best router in this price. i got this in 30$. every thing is working, msn voice, file transfer, netmeeting ,yahoo, yahoo voice, video conferencing, vpn, range is excellent, i am using it with D-link Air Plus PCCard and never lost a signal. people saying that u need to reboot this router once in a day, i've never reboot it once. you cant get any router in 30$,,, remember one thing, just upgrade latest firmware from netgear.com.
Rating: Summary: NetGear is a failed product and company Review: Anyone who purchases a MR814 will encounter connection problems, but the main pain they will suffer is trying to communicate with the illiterate and unintelligable souls on the phones at Netgear's tech-support center. And worst of all this company withholds relevant information from it's customers until you scream load enough from your MR814 inflicted pain. Eventually they disclose that they are fully aware of your issues and have been, but hope to continue selling the MR814 even though it does not perform well in most applications. Warning: only purchase Netgear products where there is a clean and clear return policy that will "net" you your money back when you inevitably go looking for it!
Rating: Summary: Thumbs Up Review: for the price it is the best! i mean it does everything than anyother router in its class does and the price 39$ who can beat that.... just that the mail-in-rebate takes for ever to come, I got an email from netgear that they are processing my check, but its been 5 weeks now...
Rating: Summary: Cheap, expandable, and easy to use Review: I bought this as my "traveling router" to go with me to Hotels, friends houses, abroad, etc... wireless everywhere. It is small, robust, friendly, and will guarantee you get your bag searched at the airport every time! The antenna is removeable and uses the standard RPSMA adapters so that you can plug in high gain antennas with a small cheap pigtail... this is a great cheap router.
Rating: Summary: Plug It In - IT WORKS! Review: ________ I've been using Lynksys products, almost exclusively, for the past 5 or so years. They usually work, but can be a pain to set up. I just bought a new Intel Centrino-based laptop (Acer Travelmate 800LCi - which is great, too) and was having all sorts of problems trying to get it to connect to my Linksys Wireless 4-port Switch/DSL Router(model BEFW11S4).... WHAT A GREAT PRODUCT! Out of the box and running in 10 minutes! Outstanding installation instructions and everything worked as advertised. I've had it up and running for five days now and I haven't had to reset it once. That's a major improvement over the Lynksys. I've got 6 computers hooked up to it, 3 via cable and 3 via wireless. My only regret - I didn't start with Netgear in the first place! If you're looking for an easy to install and reliable connection (okay, the jury's still out on longterm reliability) in a wireless router, this is the one!! It's even a good looking unit. Way to go, NETGEAR!! BTW, I have no affiliation with Netgear. I'm a software developer at Siemens. I write very few reviews here, but if I'm extremely satisfied and impressed with a product, I'm willing to take the time to reward the manufacturer with a good review. ralph
Rating: Summary: Do not buy it! Review: This is a really bad WiFi router. I own this router (MR814 not v2) five months. I'm using at home 2 wireless notebooks and 4 wired PC. Two PCs are up and running all the time, other mostly evening or night time. I'd upgraded firmware to Firmware version 4.11 5/03 (build 4/16). New firmware has more features and fixed DynDNS client. But! - Every day the MR814 hangs, so I have to reset it by power cycle, sometimes 3 or 5 times per evening. - Any time when I need download something big I have to reset router first and then start download, otherwise the router hangs after ~30 min depends how many TCP sessions opened - The Prism2 WiFi cards (tested MS MN-520, Senao SL-2511CD PLUS EXT2) have problems with wireless connection; Old Prism cards works better. - Small wireless power output not allows me work in my wooden house over 100 feet away even with superior Senao card. I'm strongly advise you do not buy this router, unless you have no choice. I've heard that MR814v2 is better but have not tested yet and doubted that it's true. The MR814v2 has older version of firmware, so DynDNS should be broken as minimum. Thanks and wish you all the best.
Rating: Summary: great router Review: I can't say much about this router, it gets the job done and gets it done well. I had some trouble but it wasn't the router's fault it was the network card I had (broke). I reccommend this to people who need a good router that is wire/wireless and is affordable. P.S. (get v2 which is silver and get the Netgear wireless usb adapter if you are going wireless much easier to do than install a wireless pc card (model no. for adapter MA111).
