Summary: DO NOT BUY NETGEAR PRODUCTS!!
Review: Contrary to their claims, their products have no warranty at all (unless you pay for it). I have a 2 year old gateway router that had a 5 year warranty that stopped working one day so I called their tech support. The tech support person told me that since the product is over 90 days old and they do not manufacture it anymore, then I would have to contact their pay tech support line to get an RMA. If they are able to fix the problem over the phone line, then they will charge me, otherwise they will offer me an RMA number for a return. So basically you have to pay to use their warranty. A friend who is a lawyer is currently handling this situation.

Summary: Intensely Frustrating - Don't Risk It!
Review: I'm happy for all the reviewers for whom this product worked out, but it was a disaster for me. Just to hit the high points:

(1) The set-up instructions had bizarre blind spots which left me without guidance on key issues.

(2) Once it was set up, the wireless connection dropped incessantly -- more or less every twenty minutes -- no matter what I did (and I spent hours trying to solve the problem).

(3) The wireless connection could not survive distances of more than 4 or 5 feet, even with no walls or other obstructions in the way. (Note that I was using both the Netgear router and Netgear wireless cards).

(4) My first call to the help line started with 45 minutes on hold. The second time I called help I waited on hold for 45 minutes before the system hung up on me (with no indication why). I called back and waited another 25 minutes before the system hung up on me again. I called back a 3rd time, and got through after 35 minutes.

(5) The help people I spoke with were very friendly and eager to help, but nothing they offered helped even the slightest bit. For example, they directed me to a system upgrade that was supposed to solve the problem of dropped connections; it made absolutely no difference whatsoever. They suggested various other tactics, but none made a difference. I sank hours into implementing their suggestions -- all wasted.

(5) Finally, help told me that they would research the dropped connection issue further and get back to me. They never did. I doubt they meant badly; much more likely, Netgear refuses to provide even a fraction of the funds necessary to sustain a workable help line.

Reading other reviews, I guess it must be true that this product works for some people. But I've got good basic equipment, am generally able to make computers (etc) do what they're supposed to do, and gave this product many hours of effort, and it was an absolute failure. Maybe the product is finicky about what other products it will work with; or maybe Netgear's quality control is so bad that the quality of individual units varries enormously. Either way, I'd say its not worth the gamble. There's no reason to risk the kind of frustration this product caused me. Save yourself the ulcer.

Summary: Dissapointing
Review: I had the original version of this product. It worked great, covered the whole house even when installed in the basement. I never had dropouts from it. Unfortunately this one got fried when lighning struck the house.

I had been so happy with it I went straight out and bought another. When I opened the box though I discovered I had the V2 model, which is about 1/3rd the size. This a much inferior product to the original. The range is much less and drop outs are regular, every few minutes, even when in the same room as the router. I've been back to the store once to exchange it but the replacement is no better. I'm going to return this one too.

Summary: good enough
Review: first off, this works fine with a mac. that was my biggest concern, but didn't turn out to be a problem. setup took less than a minute. i plugged the netgear router in, stretched the ethernet cord to the cable modem, then turned my airport card on my ibook on and selected netgear and there i was no. hassle, no probem.

my reason for buying this model was the price. it's tough to beat, especially compared to apple's airport.

the reason this didn't get five stars was that the range can be limited. i live in a small, two-bedroom house and sometimes loose my signal. but, luckily i get it fine in my home office. (the only cable line is in the living room, it's easiest just to leave it all there instead of running wire, hence the wireless router).

Summary: Great value
Review: I bought a MR814v2 for $... after rebate. It works great so far.
I strongly suggest update the firmwire to version 5.01
It fixes some bugs I encountered with the original firmwire
5.0
And be careful to download the firmwire for MR814v2, not for
MR814

Summary: Best buy for the price
Review: I bought this router couple of days back... Took me less than an hour to set the whole thing up, needs no technical skills... Sleek, works great and really inexpensive. Would highly recommend this for all.

Summary: Wireless connection unstable; cheap; Interface is nice
Review: My wireless connection drops from time to time after connected for more than 2 hours or so. Router needs to be reset by pulling the power plug. I used both Linksys and Netgear, and I found the web interface offered by Netgear is more intuitive. Unfortunately the wireless connection did not work well with my Orinoco wireless card. For $$$ dollars it's good for casual users. Not recommended for heavy duty or professional users.

Summary: Can't beat the price
Review: This little thing is perfect for home use - hasn't gone down once in the 2 months that I've had it so far. At 40 bucks, it's worth every penny and more.

Summary: Great router!
Review: The main reason we bought this router is because we had a laptop, and felt there was no point in having a wired router when you've got a router. It's also an added bonus to not have wires all across the house now connecting the computers!

The router itself is excellent. We get great reception, speed, and reliability. I've never regretted making this purchase for one second! I'd recommend it to anyone who is wanting to get a wireless router, and even those just wanting a router.

Installation isn't complicated at all. Just follow the directions and you'll have everything set up in 15 minutes, max. Or, if you want to be macho, you don't have to use the directions, it's easy to set it up without directions. ;)

Again, I'd highly recommend this to anyone, but I would let them know that if you want to take advantage of the wireless capabilities, you will need a wireless card for every computer. Some do not know this.

Summary: Seamless, perfect setup & performance
Review: Was looking for a replacement for a DLink DI-713P wireless router which was very unreliable (sometimes drops connection and could not reliably support WEP encryption). I was delighted that the Netgear unit worked straight on power up. Wireless performance is excellent- I'm running full 128bit encryption, and signal is strong & stable throughout the house. Documentation is also good as I quickly found out how to use MAC address filtering for added security.
