Summary: Update the firmware
Review: I have a desktop with LAN port and a laptop with internal wireless card. This router can connect both to the Internet through a cable modem (Road Runner). There is practically no setup for the desktop, but it didn't work with my laptop initially. I spent a couple of hours searching for help on their web site, trying various setting, but it didn't solve the problem. Then I upgrade the router using the latest firmware, and it works.

Summary: Awesome Product, Easy Setup, but Poverty Stirken Tech Sup.
Review: Ok the unit works great, it is plug and play. It looks and works as pictured and described. Only complaint I have is the firmware upgrade that you MUST do if you have a dell truemobile 1300/1400 card. Netgear reccomends the upgrade, but my great dell tech. support guy acctualy gave me the link. After installing I can get a good signal even at 1,000ft. away from the unit (thats with several walls and a tree or two in between).

However, tech-support is TERRIBLE and if you do call you WILL be on hold for a VERY long time, but the set-up and instructions are easy enough.
If you have a truemobile you can download the update from:

Summary: Works well with Xbox Live
Review: I am satisfied with this product, and think it is a good deal (with the price drop). I bought it to hook it up to my Motorola Surfboard cable modem and DLink ethernet card. I use the wired connection to hook up to my PC, and I use the wireless connection to hook up to my Xbox (downstairs).

I first bought the wired version of this router (the 614 model). Then, I noticed that this model has 4 wired ports, in addition to the wireless option. So, I returned the 614 and bought this instead because you have the option to turn off/on the wireless capability (at any time by selecting/clearing a checkbox on the web-browser interface) while keeping your system wired and running. So, it's a wired router PLUS the wireless capability.

Also, because of the new G standard, this model is half the price of the wired router! So, I now have both worlds -- I can run everything wired through the ports. Also, at any time, I can checkmark an option to turn on the wireless antenna for more flexbility.

For Xbox Live fans, I recommend the Linksys WGA11B Wireless-B Game Adapter with this router if you want to go wireless -- it's relatively inexpensive compared to other bridges and it works well. TIP: I had to checkmark the "Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)" option on the router's web-browser interface (under the Wireless Options heading) in order to get the adapter to work with this router. Another option is to just use the wired connection, which works fine.

Summary: Just works (with Windows and Mac)
Review: I bought this to replace a Siemens wireless router that the wireless portion never worked on - it had a range of about 2 feet. What a difference with Netgear. Strong signal through several rooms and mountains of electronics. Setup was a breeze with Mac OS X. I first tried to set it up on my Windows 98 machine, and had some trouble, but I think it was related to some proprietary software I have installed on that machine. After setting up the router from my Mac, I had no problem accessing from my desktop PC or my laptop.

Summary: Easy set-up, flawless use
Review: Worked on the first try with cox.net cable modem. Have used the wired connection for 2 months without trouble. Hope to test the wireless access soon with a tablet PC.

Summary: easy... and pretty
Review: I ordered this because I got an Apple powerbook, and I wanted to be able to access my DSL wirelessly and network with my Windows PC. This not only did it, it was a piece of cake to set up and even make secure. It took my less than a half hour in total, and I was drunk at the time! (Kids, don't drink and network).

And the best part is, it's pretty cool looking. (Although it could be smaller...) I'm thinking of buying one for my parent's house so I can use my powerbook wirelessly when I'm there.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: Didn't work from the start. Was on hold for 60 minutes for tech support. Tech was friendly, recognized the unit was defective, and authorized return (I paid for return shipping.) Can't comment on performance, as I haven't had a chance to assess, but out-of-box experience was definitely disappointing.

Summary: Works as expected; for home use
Review: Hardware : MR814 802.11b (v1) coupled with WG511 802.11G version PCMCIA card from Netgear. 802b cards are priced similar to g cards.

802.11b "speed" more than adequate for Internet applications

Works without much configuration. Have not used all features yet, such as filtering, forwarding etc.

Used in DELL XP and Win2K notebooks for several weeks now.
Wireless application in XP has trouble waking from hibernation sometimes. Win 2K much better, but Win2K more stable in general between these two machines anyway.

Reliable usage, although at one time consistently dropped connections. This was because of interference from someone else neaby using the same channel (Maybe Source of other problems noted here); so changed channel and ok.

Upgraded to latest firmware which fixes time of day from NTP severs amongst other things.

Have connected behind existing Linksys router connected to Cable Modem. This did not require any configuration changes, although check for router protocols used in both, i.e. RIP.

Occasionally have to reboot one or both routers, although this isn't that frequent; stable for days, weeks.

Summary: Excellent router, trouble free, easy to set up
Review: NETGAR MR814 WIRELESS ROUTER. I've heard people say that it's a bit bulky, but if you stand it up on the vertical stand there is no problem with it taking up space. I got this item about 6 months ago from an auction site and it has been trouble free since. Indoors it works well as long as you don't have too many walls in between your pc and the router, I guess it depends what is inside your walls. Configuration is browser based and super simple, even setting up encryption is fairly straightforward. currently I have the router connected to a desktop(by wire) to a laptop(wish sandisk wireless card) and to a Dell Axim palmtop(netgear ma701 wireless CF card). It's fairly easy to set up the router to exchange info between your home PC's. I've had good signal indoors to about 70feet(walls and doors in between). But range varies depending on obstructions. For most people it should work excellent indoors up to about 50-60feet regardless of obstructions. I have not tried to use this outside, so I don't know the range. I would recommend it as it is troble free.

Summary: Total Control
Review: This Router gives you total control of any computer you have hooked to it. It also monitors all sites each computer goes to (a must for parents)and if setup will e-mail you those lists then you have the option to block or allow certain sites from future veiwing! You also can set times each computer is allowed online! I LOVE THIS ROUTER!!!
