Rating: Summary: Don't bother... Review: Do not be lured in by the price after rebate! There is a reason for this price. This router is a piece of junk. I read previous reviews of this wireless router having rebooting problems and wireless signal degradetion, but the nice price after rebate at the time suckered me in. The wireless signal on this router in 54G mode goes from excellent (54mps) to zero in about 2-3 minutes and then takes at least another 2-3 minutes (usually 10-15 minutes) to reestablish the wireless connection. To make matters worse the router resets every 2-3 hours for some unknown reason. If you own one now, check the routers logs to see the reinitialization. I returned mine to Amazon.com. I will give kudos to Amazon... The router arrived within 3-4 days after ordering even with Free Super Saver Shipping. They also credited my credit card within a week and a half of returning the router. I now have a Linksys WRT54G and it works flawlessly.
Rating: Summary: I've been trying to get this up and going for 3 hours. AAHH! Review: I bought this router because a friend and the Best Buy computer guru suggested it. You better know exactly what you are doing because tech support is on Mars!! I think I am going to have to reach them by telepathy. I may be taking this back in 2 days if I can't get it up and going by then. I use Netscape, not Internet Explorer. I don't know if that is making a difference. However, I am feeling very hostile to Netgear right now.
Rating: Summary: Didn't like my modem Review: I purchased this router and companion laptop card from Compusa. They provided a free installation service by professionals. The pro worked two solid hours trying to install the wireless system. The hangup was the router repeatedly shut down my modem. The modem is an RCA unit provided by Time Warner cable. Maybe there is a problem with this modem but it worked fine with a Netgear 11 Mbps router. This problem still existed after the pro downloaded and installed the latest firmware updates from the Netgear website. I had to return the router and card. I guess I'll wait for the high speed stuff to mature a little more. Don't really want to go through the same thing with D-Link et al.
Rating: Summary: Firmware Upgrade? Review: I just received my WGT624 router from Amazon. Same issues as another reviewer here. I was able to hook it up relatively easily and achieved 54 Mbps from the farthest reaches of my house. In order to reach the coveted 108 Mbps threshold I figured I should try upgrading the firmware. Big mistake. To make a long story short, I found out from tech support that 1-2 out of 50 or 2%-4% have a firmware upgrade issue that basically zaps the unit into uselessness. If you purchase this item, go to http://kbserver.netgear.com/support_details.asp?dnldID=592 and type in your serial # from the bottom of the unit. Supposedly it will tell you if your unit's firmware is upgradeable. Mine wasn't. At least tech support was friendly. Now I am waiting for a new unit and I am cautiously optimistic that this next unit will work as advertised. Just one more word of advice. If you purchase one of these, the serial # is on the bottom of the box. Instead of monkeying around with opening up the box and messing with the packaging, you can check the serial at the above URL. This may also be useful to make sure you're getting an upgradeable unit if purchasing from a local retailer rather than an e-tailer. Well good luck and I'll update this review when I receive my new router (2-3 business days according to tech support).
Rating: Summary: Easy to install; excellent range Review: I just replaced my Netgear MR314 wireless router with the WGT624 model. Total time from box to net surfing was 9 minutes. (It did take an additional half hour to update the firmware and reset the passwords.)The range of the WGT624 is a big improvement over the MR314. I used to have to worry about reception shadows cast by the refrigerator; now I have wireless access inside the refrigerator (as long as the door is open). More seriously, we are getting usable access throughout the house, using an airport card in an apple titanium powerbook (notoriously bad for reception of weak signals.)
Rating: Summary: Very Good Product Review: I purchased this router with the Netgear WG511T wireless card. I must admit the setup was very straight forward. I did need to configure the router and card 2x to get the 108 Mbps. Maybe it was something I did or didn't do correctly the first time (channel 6)? Anyway, the range is fantastic and so far I have not experienced any loss in connection. The only reason for the 4 stars rather than 5 is that it does not work with my Motorla Analog Telephone Adapter (Vonage VoIP). I must first connect the ethernet cable from my modem to the ATA then to the router. The unit is very slim and is unobtrusive. It comes with a stand so that it can be set vertically rather than horizontally. Hope this helps.
Rating: Summary: Great product, terrible support Review: The WGT624v2 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router has being working great since I finally found a friend to help me set up the wireless network. I had many difficulties trying to connect to the router, because of some mismatch IP address due to some network bridges. In the beginning I tried to call customer support, but I have to admit that is terrible. They sent you to an operator in New Delhi, India, which has a very difficult accent to understand. Is not that I am against the way Indians talk English, but I expect that if I call customer support from USA I will be able to understand what they are saying instead of asking them to repeat the same thing 3 times or more in order to understand them. They also seem that they do not really know how to help you out in setting up the wireless connection. After my friend figure out what was the problem, he was surprised that the customer help guy did not know the origin of my problem. I feel that the product itself is great, but the customer support is terrible. I would not mind having to pay a little more money for any electronic product if the company offers me a competent customer support which is easy to understand.
Rating: Summary: Up and running in about 3/4 hours total Review: I installed the router in my desktop in about 1/2 hour, thank goodness it recognized all the settings it needed(cable modem)because I probably would have been lost in finding them or would have had to call my cable company support. It took about an additional 15 minuets to install in my laptop and everything there was detected fine also. I was actually connected to the internet on my laptop without knowing it. I realized it when my Norton Anti Virus sent me a message that my virus files had just been updated. Just as the documentation said the router looked for and found an update and installed it(about 2mins with cable modem) and I was done. It came up in 54Mbs mode and I am going to leave it that way for the time being so I can't report about the 108Mbs mode, but I am thorougly pleased with this product so far.
Rating: Summary: Netgear WGT624 802.11G 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router Review: I just installed the router and the corresponding 108mbps card with no problems. My computer detected the wireless signal right away and i was on the internet in no time. The only issue is that I was only running at 54mbps max. Nobody told me that the router combo will only run the 108mbps in channel 6. I called tech support and i could barely understand the person on the other line who otherwise sounded annoyed that i couldnt understand him. That was why I only gave it 4 stars.
Rating: Summary: works, and user friendly Review: I just got this unit as a replacement for my dlink di-514 router, which had problems on its wireless port. setup wizard worked great. i was up and running in 5 minutes. so far performace is great. no more random disconnects like with the dlink. software is nice explains every field for you in detail. I read in other reviews people trashed this device for software problems. they apparently fixed everything since then. I highly reccomend this wireless router.
