Rating: Summary: Works just Fine Review: I bought this product 6 weeks ago. I opened the package and installed it in 15 minutes. It has been working great since. I don't understand why some people are having problem with this product. I think it might be the operating system problem. Anyways this is one of the easiest networking products to install on the market. I recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Good router but forget about rebate Review: Router's performance is acceptable. Signal strengh subsides significantly (from excellent to low) within small distance (30 ft) but probably because of the walls etc. Connection speed is adequate. Configuration is excellent. Firewall features/security configuration is not abundant but OK and working quite stable. Once the router (in two months after the router was configured) lost its settings and reconfiguration was required (it takes 2 minutes). Two stars is because Netgear's customer service is BAD and unfriendly. ...
Rating: Summary: Worst Router Imaginable Review: Now i'm sure this router may have worked simple for some people but i'd like to share my story. I have had this piece of junk for 2 months now the original product would get the internet sharing done fine but drop connections randomly every hour or so. Netgear gave me a replacement router and with this new router I was able to steadily hold connections to all PCs but the only thing missing was NOWAY TO REACH THE INTERNET. The customer service people have been in contact with for the last two weeks they know my case well and can't figure it out themselves. All i'm told is this is an "isolated incident" (hard to believe with the volume of customer service calls they're getting). When asked if I could replace this router they refused to replace a replacement which they've already sent me. Now i'm screwed and can't get my money back because I have the replacement and not the original product sent to me from amazon. I bought a Linksys G router and 15 mins later I had the internet working on all clients. STAY AWAY FROM NETGEAR, this is the best advice i can give unless you like playing rouletee with networking equipment. Netgear products are junk.
Rating: Summary: Easy as tying your shoe Review: I have an Apple ibook G4 and tried unsuccessfully for hours to get my Airport extreme base station to work. After two days of frustration I returned it and bought the Netgear. In 30 seconds after connecting the unit, it recognized my earthlink cable modem and online service and I was cruising the internet. It has great range, doesn't drop signal (like so many have complained about with the AEBS), and was $100 cheaper. Can't go wrong with this unit.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A HORRIBLE PRODUCT Review: I installed it easily enough, but nothing worked. I couldn't connect to VPN network and web pages crawled. I had to upgrade the firware out of the box and that helped with the VPN, but the only way to surf the web with any normalcy was to disable the firewall features. What a piece of trash. I returned it and bought a linksys.
Rating: Summary: Works with Mac, once it's configured Review: All told, this rating is an average of 1.5 stars for the install materials and 4.5 for current performance. Here's why: I'd never configured a wireless accessory before buying this router for my new Powerbook. The Mac compatibility was, naturally, a must and the store I bought the Netgear from had double rebates on the product. All 802.11 routers are faster than the Internet itself (other than a T1 line) because the fastest DSL or cable modems are less than the 11 Mbps that an 802.11b router sends its signals, therefore my purchase was price-driven and review-driven (when the Netgear works, it works WELL). The install CD-ROM and installation instructions were substandard. The CD-ROM did not start the install program, instead it had some pdf files and a series of Chinese characters under the CD icon for the CD's "title" (by contrast, however, I installed the CD-ROM in my PC at work and the install program started up immediately). I did not contact tech support after reading negative reviews of Netgear's techs from this site (and others). Instead, I literally pieced together how to set up my system by reading OTHER manufacturers' installation guides for Mac (D-Link, Buffalo) that gave more details than Netgear's CD-ROM; used Netgear's online installation guide (much better) and some intuition of my own to connect the Airport set-up with the WEP encryption code Netgear generated. The equipment has worked perfectly since I completed the installation and has fired a strong signal to my Airport Extreme card. To that extent, it's very satisfactory. Plus, my experience with testing the install CD-ROM at work indicates that the Netgear is PC-friendly. Therefore, if you know what you're doing or have a decent PC, the Netgear would be right for you.
Rating: Summary: If I could give this product a zero, I would. Review: I had continual problems with my netgear products and spent over 40 hours on with their customer service (Customer service is in Delhi, India, and I was constantly frustrated by the lack of ability to communicate). I finally threw the product away and bought Linksys, and have been happy ever since!
Rating: Summary: Very Good Replacement Review: I bought the WGR614 as a replacement to my wireless linksys 4 port router, because my linksys router could not handle VPN very good. The WGR614 does VPN really good, no special settings were required. Normal network access is simple. The only thing I didn't like was the IP Address the router uses "192.168.0.xxx" I am used to "192.168.1.xxx", this is a picky dislike. As with any router, the address can be modified. The WGR614 also beats my linksys 4 port router on the logs and status. I like the feature of e-mailing different status. Another feature the WGR614 has over my linksys is that you can block different sites, this is a nice feature.
Rating: Summary: works great with Microsoft PCI Adapter (MN-730) Review: I bought the wireless g router and pci adapter which all installed fairly easy. After a few hours the pc (win xp pro) would completely freeze and I would have to power off the computer and reboot. Eventually (after a day) the pc would freeze after only a few minutes. I finally returned the card and purchased the microsoft wireless pci adapter (MN-730) which works flawlessly! WOW!!!! constant 54 mbs connection, never a dropped connection and microsoft support. I was almost tempted to get the Microsoft wireless router but this combo is working great.
Rating: Summary: Don't use it with a Macintosh! Review: I purchased this router to use with a pc laptop (wireless) and a Mac connected via ethernet to the router. The PC works great, but the Mac and the router will not communicate properly. I've spent several hours talking with some very nice Indian folks on the phone about this, but each time there was no resolution to the problem. I've given up trying to solve the problem and just plug the Mac directly into my cable modem, then unplug it and plug the router in when I need to use the laptop. Of course, that sort of defeats the purpose of the router!
