Summary: This device does not work.
Review: I got this on 12/20/04 and installed it on a Windows 2000 Pro. Every time a user logs out you get a loud ding sound (typically this indicates an error just occurred). I suspect the device goes inactive when you log out thus gets the typical warning from Windows not to pull the device out but to use the Remove Hardware manager. A few times when I log back in I can get a Dr. Watson pop-up window (examining the application log you get error messages like C0000005:004EA0CC). After awhile the device would not work - forcing you to reboot your PC. A simple Google search you'll see this device clearly has problems. I've been working with computers professionally for about 20 years and I can resolve a lot of issues, maybe a lot of issue will be fixed later. I however need a working product today.

Summary: Doesn't work very well for Windows XP
Review: I just got this thing today. One thing that I liked about it is its size. It's really small and can easily sit on the desk without taking up too much space.

Now, I am running Windows XP Professional. When I installed the software, there was an error message at the end of the installation... I forgot what it was. Then everytime when I boot up my PC, the device stays inactive. The power LED is on, but the LINK light doesn't light up nor blink. I have to unplug the device and plug it back in so that it becomes "active". The device will not detect or connect to the default wireless network that I set on every bootup. I have to unplug and plug the thing in, then manually scan for all available networks around and select the network I want to connect to manually EVERY SINGLE TIME! It's annoying!!!! But, when it is connected, it stays connected very well. There will be slight fluctuations in signal strength, but is bearable. This product is still pretty new and has got real problems! I hope the people at Linksys will fix these problems immediately and provide users with new firmware upgrades. Till then, this product is getting a 1 star rating from me.

Summary: I lost my time with it
Review: I tried to install it in my notebook (Windows 2000 Server) and I had an error (Can't load res_dll).
When I tried to install it in my desktop (Windows 2000 Professional) I had memory conflict.

I paid for being an Early Adopter. I'm not going to repeat this mistake again.

I hope I'll help someone with my review.

Summary: can't find res_dll problem.
Review: Sure it's problem of there software whatever they telling us. If you tired of this message and want to run linksys's Wireless Network Monitor you should download driver for this device from Linksys cite, unzip it (run exe file), find Wlan.ini in directory C:\Linksys Driver\WUSB54GS_09012004 and add in the end of it:

[GemtekLoadResDLL]
LangResID=1
ResFile="resWusb54GS_US.dll"

Then run setup from the same dir to install new driver with correct settings for res_dll (do not forget to uninstall existing version of driver).

Summary: wireless user
Review: The adapter works fine on Win XP.
When installed on another system, such as win 2003, the Wireless Network Monitoring software will not work, which will give the "Cannot Load Res_dll" error message.

The adapter itself works fine on Win 2003, you need only to bear that sticky message that keep coming up every 10 seconds, or you can leave it on the desktop and ignore it.

Linksys, please make a update to the driver for users of newer editions of windows, thanks.

Summary: Can't load Res_dll
Review: When you install the software that comes with this adapter on a windows system, an error message will pop up and stay up saying: Can't load Res_dll. I called Linksys customer service (they answered from the Philippines), who said that it is not a linksys problem, but a windows problem. When you go to Microfot's web site, a single page related to the error message comes up, but has zero help value.
The adapter will work, but a small error message will stay on your desktop all the time. If you close it, it will pop up again in exactly 10 seconds, and will stay there.
Hopefully Linksys and Cisco will take care of this problem before Christmas 2006.
