U.S. Robotics USR2415 Wireless Access PCI Adapter

Summary: When it works it works well.
Review: I installed on an E-machines E-Tower 333 with no problems. The software utility shows monitors transmission status, channel used etc. I use this for peer-to-peer networking to one other computer in my house that also has a USR Wireless adapter. I always get the full 11 Mbytes/sec speed over a distance of about 80 feet, one computer being upstairs, and the other being in a den on the ground floor. I am able to print files, make backups (on an ORB drive) or write to a CDRW drive on the other machine no problem.
We can also network in Sony PCG-R505DCP laptop with no problem - so this card works with other hardware conforming to the IEEE802.11b standard.
The card worked as a PCMDIA card in a COMPAQ Armada laptop.
However, we were unable to get the card to work, or even be recognised by an AMD K6-2 500 MHz machine using a Tyan 1590S motherboard. We installed a more expensive USR Wireless USB adaptor (USR 1120) to complete the network.
The only other caveat is that it does not offer any encryption at all on peer-to-peer networks. So if you neighbours are close enough they can share your hard drives etc. too!
Overall I am pleased with this purchase for the machines it worked with.
