Summary: i think this is the greatest thing since cassette
Review: sharp did make a great md player/recorder. i have used it for alot of recording and playing, and it goes everywhere with me. have had it for a few months now and it still to this date has not skipped. i mean its been used alot in rough enviroments like offroading on a jeep, driving on the roads of NYC<now thats worse than off roading, esp in a tight sports car>, running and on the train to and from work, and never heard it skip once. i must have put in thousands of hours of use on it and have recorded at least 200 md's in the time i have had it. its great. love it. its like timex, it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. this thing has been through alot of rough use and no errors, problems or anything.

Summary: After one year it started skipping...
Review: I've owned this one, too. And guess what? After about one year it started skipping. And it didn't record anymore.

I sent it to Sharp, and what was their answer? "We've recycled your MD player. By the way: the MD you included is broken, too." Great!

What's the moral of the story? I have a MD collection I can't listen to, and now I have a Discman and a CD recorder. I don't know whether this is Sharp's fault or just the quality you can expect from MDs; this is the only MD device I've ever owned and I will probably ever own.

Summary: Skips A LOT.. got the dreaded "UTOC Error" after 3 days..
Review: I was like a little kid with a new toy when I first got this machine.. used it once.. turned it on again 2 days later.. and I see the dreaded "UTOC Error" .. so within 1 week of the purchase.. I already had to take it into repair.. Now after the repair, the player seems to skip.. and I'm not doing any kind of excruciating exercise.. Just walking with the player in my pants pocket today, during one song, the player must have skipped at least 5 times within 2 minutes. I've read on the NET that the "UTOC Error" only occurs on models made in Japan.. so watch out!!! Too bad I didn't see read that article before I bought it, cuz if I did.. I woulda gotten a SONY.. I hope you Sharp people see this review..

Summary: I use it everyday!!
Review: I got one of these for Christmas, and I love it. I use it to record .mp3 files off the Internet. It never skips, you can delete tracks, move tracks, etc. I'll never go back to cassette tapes, ever.

My only issue is the battery, it only lasts about 6-7 hours on a full charge (even less if recording on battery power), but it recharges in a few hours, so it's not too bad.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Summary: The best sounding portable music format in existence
Review: I was given my Sharp MD-MS702 for my 21 birthday last March, and I have used it virtually everyday since. It has not let me down, and the sound is trully incredible. I listened to several minidiscs on a longhaul flight between London and New York, and even at 35,000ft with the usual aircraft noice the recordings sounded crystal clear. With the add on AA battery pack I can listen for even longer. The edit facilities are really useful, but most of all the shear quality of the music reproduction from something so small will leave you gasping. If you only listen to one Mini-Discman make sure this one is on your list.

Summary: Great product, but get a service contract
Review: I cannot fault the player at all, I have even recorded a live band in a pub and been impressed with the result. However, I had a similar problem with skipping after owning it for just over a year; I have the portable battery pack, and using it made no difference. Neither did using one of those cleaner disks. Thankfully, I had extended the warranty, and I replaced the unit no problem, this one has been working fine to date. Advice for the day; get a warranty for as long as you want to use the product. But remember that this is electronics; and in five years time, this tiny box will look so old, and well '90s, that you will want to replace it anyway. (Have you seen a origional Walkman(TM) lately?)

Summary: breathtaking solid operation all around!!
Review: The sharp md ms702 is by far the best value in minidisc portables ever. Efficient battery operation provides hours and hours of playback and superb time for recording. Whether you need to convert optical sampling rates or make masters of your old cassettes filled with all those unreplacable tunes, this unit will fulfill all (and I do mean all) your needs! I've used this unit on cross continent flights (sometimes recharging at airports) as well as long jogs and road trips. The 702 has never let me down and it even comes complete with a backlit remote control and lightweight lithium-ion recharageable battery. One of my favourite uses for this product is making solid portable recordings of my favourite home-made MP3 music files directly from the digital output on my computer's sound card. Way to go SHARP!

Summary: This unit sounds great, but has several fatal flaws
Review: I was very excited when I first listened to the excellent sound quality and used the full compliment of controls on this tiny unit. (syncro-record, optical record, plus full track editing tools) However...after only a couple of months it has begun to skip badly and is basically a $300.00 paperwieght. I kept it clean, out of the sun and only played it a couple hours a day and it is completely broken. I thought the lithium-ion battery might need replacement, but I got a rude surprise when I found out they are ONLY available from Sharp via mail-order and cost **$50.00**. The optional AA battery pack is also only available from Sharp and is on back order 'till August (maybe). I have to wait 2 months to find out if the battey is even the problem, and if it isn't, then the thing is truly worthless after only 100 hours or so of gentle use. This is immensely frustrating because the unit is really fantastic when it is working correctly. The little remote controller is super cool, and it comes with really good headphones. In the end, it must be said that Sharp has not worked out the bugs in MD technology, and someone looking for a good value SHOULD AVOID BUYING THIS UNIT.

Summary: Best sound I have ever heard
Review: I love this thing. This was the very first mini disk player I ever bought. I love these head phones, the sound is by far the best I have ever came across. If I lost these I would go mad, I use them with almost everything I own, they are amazing.

The only thing I hate about this thing is the transferring of songs. I hope newer models will have a USB port on them. Naming the songs was also a pain.

But, I love this player and will gladly buy from them again.

Summary: My first minidisc
Review: My first minidisc player is the only portable I've ever bought. No skips while jogging and I can edit discs on the fly after I've recorded them from a CD player using the optical input cable.
