Rating: Summary: UTOC error a thing of the past Review: The "dreaded utoc error" is a problem that Sharp has fixed. Look for the MD-MS702 with an "MK" added to the end of the model number. You're buying old stock if you get the non-MK version. The MK units work flawlessly. I can't say enough good things about my Sharp. Asthetically, I think it's much nicer than the other units on the market. Functionally, it beats the pants off my friends Sony unit. He's looking to unload his Sony R55 and get the Sharp 702. You shouldn't be disappointed with this player/recorder.
Rating: Summary: Where's the zero stars selection? Review: I gave this unit a try and ended up very disappointed (see other one star rating). Without much invested in research and development, Sharp can afford to sell their recorders so cheap. I returned my non-recordable minidisc recorder for Sharp's next in line, the MD-MT15(s) and instead of quitting on me after only 3 days, it went an entire week before the dreaded "UTOC ERROR" showed up and erased my music! If you record a CD straight through, without interruption, it works great. Try to mix your own, and it just chokes. The result? I returned to the store again, and to avoid losing a customer, they agreed to replace my defunct Sharp players for a comparable Sony, even if a comparable Sony is more than $50 more! My recommendation, stick with the original until the rest catch up, even if you have to pay more.
Rating: Summary: Great, and no Problems so far!!! Review: This is a great machine! It's not the easiest to use, but once you get accustomed to it, It works like a charm. I got a friend to send me mine, and am happy I did. I hope that I don't encounter any problems like some of the other reviewers, cuz I think I am going to be using it a whole lot from now on! I also have a Sharp stereo and am also very pleased with it. Good work Sharp for making great products!!
Rating: Summary: not worth the box it comes in Review: I bought this unit, recorded a couple of mixes with the optical line and took it with me for a walk, and it sounded great. The next day, however, I couldn't get more than 3 seconds of solid play. "UTOC ERROR" kept showing up and eventually no response at all at all. Keep all your receipts, you'll need them.
Rating: Summary: excelent player Review: I recieved mine as a christmas present and have been very happy with i
Rating: Summary: Grrrr. I'm not a happy camper. Review: My brother convinced me that spending this much money was worth it. NOt on this one. It said it was recording, said it had recorded, but did not record. I followed every little instruction perfectly, still didn't work. Returned it for my refund. At least I'll go and see if a different company (not Sharp) can make one that works.
Rating: Summary: THE ONLY way to record and listen to music Review: I bought my md player/recorder and have had it for about a year now, without a single skip or error. I am really impressed with it. I take it everywhere. Even in my car, which is in desperate need of new shocks, sitting on the dash, the darn thing still never skipped. I've dropped it while listening to it and it didn't skip or damage the unit. All the advantages of cd's and cassetes put into one small disc that won't get scratched like a cd. GO OUT AND BUY ONE NOW, you WON'T regret it. The only disadvantage I've seen is that more people don't own them.
Rating: Summary: It's very good the thing never skipped once. Review: That's right! In the one year that I have owned this little gadget no quams no problems. I go for long walks with the little bugger on my hip and not an error or a miss of a beat. I mean outside walking, jogging on the move in the 80 to 90 dagree weather. Rain or shine the thing just won't die. The crap I put this device through would kill any cassette player or cd player on the market. This mini disc player is the best thing that came to music entertainment and I support the corporations that bring us these things 100%.This thing is the BOMB!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Good product, but is it worth the price? Review: Bought one of these and owned it for about a month. It's a lot of fun and puts out great sound, but for $300 is it worth it? You can find it now for $249 and get a $50 rebate coupon from Sharp which will bring you down to $199, but you'll need an extended warranty (a.k.a. blackmail payment) from where-ever you buy it. Like oters have said...this thing will be pre-historic in two years. And if you pay the blackmail up front you can trade it in for a new model in a year or so. (At least that's the case at Best Buy) If you want to learn more about minidisc stuff check out minidisco.com it has links to lots of MD info. Personally I took mine back and will probably end up with a CD recorder. The prices should be about the same next year, and who has a tape deck in their car anymore? The only way you'll be able to play the MD in your car is with the tape adaptor, and it seems everybody these days has a CD player in the car. Then what do you do?
Rating: Summary: Great sound!!! Fun to use!!! Review: I just bought mine a few weeks ago and so far so good. I am even starting to record all my vinyl, you know those 12 inch singles with thee awesome remixes. I wish I had found thes negative reviews first but I was too excited to wait. So far so good though!!
