Summary: Excellent value, but there are a few small things I'd change
Review: First of all, let me say that this is an excellent product. I don't regret purchasing it. The audio quality is great, and it's very easy to make recordings from any source, including mp3s. But there are a few things I'd change if I could, and I'll list them for your benefit.

1. It's rather difficuilt to enter track names. There's a single "character" button, and it gets old pressing it 26 times to get to "Y." Get my drift?

2. The rechargable battery only gives you 6.5hrs of play on a full charge (3hrs to charge).

Other than that, I'm completely happy with the 702. It's a great product for the money, and I'm sure you'll enjoy using it. E-mail me if you have any questions (viper118@bigfoot.com).

Summary: The possibilities are endless!
Review: I have had the Sharp 702 for 9 months now and have loved it since the day I got it. My main purpose in purchasing it was for live recording. Once I found a good quality, stereo, clip-on micrphone, I was in business. Being a musician it is a perfect way to record yourself and/or band. Just run it through a mixer, or even record it live with the one stereo microphone for a rough edit. Another item of interest for me is taking records and 7 inches onto a higher quality format. Maybe you're wondering why I still buy records, but if you're not MiniDisc is the answer. By puting my records on MiniDisc I can easily listen to them that way, or take them into my computer to burn a CD copy. And the quality is top notch! I've used my MD for recording lectures at school and transfering a variety of audio mediums to digital quality. And it is great for MP3's too. Leave it up to your imagination to find greater possiblities for the Sharp 702. The only reason I give this model a four star rating is because there are better models out there (such as the Sharp 722) for relatively the same cost. They have longer battery life, a jog-dial for easy text intput, and 40-sec. non-skip protection. Given that mine has never skipped, even after being droppped during recording, I imagine it would be pretty difficult to interupt the music with 40 sec. memory. So, go MD. If you don't have the extra $30 to spend for the 722, this model will do you just fine. I hope to enjoy using it for many more years to come.

Summary: Its Great
Review: This thing is great. Everyone should get one of these things. They are cool and great for recording MP3's, not to mention CDs. And this one comes with the Digital Cable, too. Pick it up if you can afford it, as the price is the only drawback.

Summary: So far it looks good
Review: Well, i just got my md player as a gift from my father. I was really excited at first and decided to get some information on the product. First place i went was the official sharp web site and things looked good. Then i came here and sure enough there were tales of the "UTOC error" and stuff. I havent gotten to use my MD player yet, i'm going out to get some blank discs today. I sure hope things work out. I'm a little nervous but it turns out I have the MD-MS702 MK version. I hope it doesnt give me that error. If anyone with the MK version has had problems please e-mail me and let me know. I gave the product 5 stars cause it looks cool sofar. I really like the remote control and i hope everything works out.

Summary: Beautiful Device!
Review: This device is worth every penny! I never had an error and I believe that anyone that got the UTOC error was in the very small minority. PS- Better for MP3 recordings than anything else!

Summary: MD's in your car
Review: I'm still shopping for a portable MD player, and appreciate all the reviews here. I own an AIWA shelf 3CD/5MD/Tuner recorder that was available here last year, and with which I am totally satisfied. If you can afford it, I HIGHLY recommend the SONY MDX-65 MD changer for your car. It requires a compatible SONY in-dash unit to control the changer, and you can select from radio, radio/cassette, and radio/CD. The changer is in my glove box and requiring no magazine, five MD's may be changed while a sixth is playing.

Summary: Good sound....if it WORKS!
Review: I've had 2 of these. The 1st one got the UTOC error after 2 months. Up until then, it was pretty good. Great sound, but sometimes if I walked with it in my jacket pocket, it would skip eventually. After the UTOC error, I got it replaced and within ONE MONTH, I got the same error! I can't recommend this unit and I think it's been discontinued.

Summary: Great Minidisc player, but a pain to add track names
Review: I think others have addressed the quality of minidiscs well...the quality is great, and it's a lot cheaper than having memory cards for a MP3 player. Some caveats though...the minidisc players are definitely larger and heavier than MP3 players. But smaller and lighter than CD players. May not be an issue for many people, but I personally love being able to just stick an MP3 player in my pocket, and not even know it's there.

Minidiscs have several really big advantages...they virtually never skip. I've even dropped mine on the ground and it didn't miss a beat. Well-built too...it didn't break even though I've dropped it several times. The ability to add track numbers is great. I often choreograph routines to music and the minidisk player is great for this, I just take the song and split it into a bunch of tracks so I can easily work on one section at a time.

The remote is a real nice feature, this allows you to have the player itself in a backpack or bag, and use the remote on the headphone cord to handle the volume and skip forward or back.

My biggest complaint about this particular player though, is how tedious it is to enter track names in. Of course, this is something you don't even GET with CD players, but if a feature's there, I expect it to work well. The worst thing is that you can't listen to music and enter the track name at the same time. I could live with how long it takes to do, if I didn't have to do it in silence. For that reason alone, I would probably recommend looking at other minidisk players.
