Summary: Great gizmo, but will it last?
Review: I got my MS-702 last summer. I love it! The sound quality is really good, and it has been pretty reliable. There are a few squawks I have though. The UTOC (Unable Table of Contents, like the directory on a computer disk)that some the others have experienced has only happened to me using sony discs. I use Memorex now, never have that problem. The battery seems to be running shorter. I didnt think lithium-ion developed a memory. Replacement Li is expensive. I got the external AA pack and car power cord. They last longer, but the car power cord wont charge the Li battery. I wish there were a bigger selection of pre-recorded music available. Im not sure if the MD has what it takes to avoid being the betamax recorder of the 90's. its been around for a long time but hasn't seemd to really catch on yet. We'll see.

Summary: Great features for a great price
Review: I got this unit for my birthday, and was blown awaybyit. Almost everything is great about it, but there are flaws: 1: Ifyour trying to listen to it near a tv, it doesn't work because of magnetic fields 2: If you want to plug it into your cigarette lighter in your car, you need to buy an adapter from the company for $45! 3: The battery doesn't have a very long life. It is 6.5 hrs and takes 3 to charge

These bad things don't make me hate the product. I love it because: 1: You can record all music formats onto it- mp3, cd, cassette, record, 8-track, etc. If you want, you can record sounds from your tv or radio! 2: It is very small and easy to use. The remote makes changing tracks easy while your driving, especially at night, the remote has indiglo, like watches 3: You can type in track names. Although people seem to like the jog dial on the 722, I don't think holding down a button until you get the letter you want is such a hassle. 4: If you need to remember something, you can plug your headphones (any, not just the ones that came with it) into the mic jack and record your thoughts. If you follow what the manual says, you should have no problems

Summary: 5 Years and still running great!
Review: I have had this for 5 years and used if somewhat but never abused it. I always kept it in a zip around pouch from Sony and the player works awesome. I have had the charger not work and the charge on the batteries were slow but overall the design is leek and awesome with great features. Its worth it but I have retired from minidisc players as my mp3 player has taken over my music life. Its wonderful to record anytype of audio books, music, record cd, mp3, etc...
Its not a flimsy design. Its sturdy and a bit heavy but you can feel how well built this player is. You will appreciate the features of this player. Best Sony minidisc player/recorder.

Summary: best investment you can make if you want great sound
Review: I've had my 702 for 9 months and counting now and it still works like a charm everytime I use it. The "dreaded" utoc error still hasn't shown up yet and I doubt it will after all this time(hopefully). The main reason I got it was because it was a lot cheaper than any other comparable sony unit. The features on the unit are all you'd expect to find on top of the line portable cd players and more. I especially like the fact you can delete, edit, and move tracks around if you change your mind without rerecording an hours worth of music. Trust me, after doing that with tapes for the past several years, I've wondered how I ever managed without my 702. It also sounds just as good as my car's cd player which is why I don't even bother using the optional cd player I got. Instead of bringing out a binder full of cd's, I just grab my 702 and with 5 md's in my hand, I'm ready to go. It's not as sleek or small as I'd like but it's gotten me through more boring daily morning commutes than I'd care to remember. I only wish there was a radio option on it but I don't think there are too many portable md players that currently have that option. You really can't go wrong with this unit.

Summary: Best Sounding, Great Value
Review: I bought my 702 when I was in NYC and haven't had any problems yet in the last 2 months. MD is an awesome format. I record music from MP3's onto MD. I debated between a MP3 player and a MD player for about a month. The main thing that swayed me toward the MD player was being able to change the discs. Most MP3 players are limited to 64megs, and the memory is so darn expensive! So far I have recorded approx. 400megs worth of mp3's on my MD player. The only thing that I don't like about my MD player is the way you have to name the tracks. It gets very tiresome in just a few minutes when your pushing a button rather than a jog dial. Oh.. the only other thing that I wish it had was an optical output. But i havent seen one on any of the portable models. Maybe sometime in the future? In a nutshell if your looking for a great MiniDisc player that acually sounds better than the rest, go with Sharp.

Summary: My first minidisc
Review: My first minidisc player is the only portable I've ever bought. No skips while jogging and I can edit discs on the fly after I've recorded them from a CD player using the optical input cable.

Summary: DO NOT EVER BUY THIS JUNK...
Review: My only star??......The MD looks. It's nice...really nice...If you buy it, the player looks will be the most important item, as in no time -and I mean NO TIME-, when this little-nice & cute device stops recording/editing and dies..."UTOC ERROR, a famous one"...you will have it as a shelf-decoration. Go for a Sony, or you'll regret it.

Summary: This is a great machine
Review: I bought one of these in 98 and there are 2 reasons I didn't give it 5 stars is that the battery life stunk...(they may have fixed this on later models)and it dosent have a record button on the remote. I just upgraded to the sharp MT877 which has much better D/A and A/D(digital to analogue, analogue to digital)converters. This is a good thing for quality of reproduction but it also makes it more susceptible to clipping, so in other words you can push the 702 a little harder.

Summary: GREAT PRODUCT!!!
Review: I have this MiniDisc player for 3 years now (I bought it when it still cost 300 bucks...), never had a problem with, and still very happy! It fell on the floor so many times, and has scratches all over by now, but it plays wonderfully!
