Summary: Targus CompactFlash 56k Modem best kept secret.
Review: I have had a Pretec modem, which by the way I never could get to work, and now I have a Targus. Targus is much smaller, and I had it working in 10 Minutes. A very simple setup makes it easy to get online. I played with it till the early hours, accessing all my favorite websites.I paid a little more, but it was worth it. I am using a Jornada 545 with the Targus 56k modem, and the addition of the modem has changed my whole view of the possibilities of my pocket pc.I strongly encourage any Jornada user to try the Targus 56k modem.

Summary: Works As Advertised
Review: I was dreading trying to set this CompactFlash modem up on my 3700 Ipaq, but my dread was for naught. My communication software was able to hook right into the modem without a hitch and I was able to go on-line with my PDA. I got this modem because I like to pick up my email while away from home, but hate to lug around a laptop, if I don't need to. This setup works great.

The modem itself has one of the "pop-up" jacks, which is why I only rated it 4 stars. This seems to be a rather fragile arrangement, but so far I haven't had a problem with it. Some other modems have a full jack housing cast into them. I suppose that is a sturdier arrangement, but without having had any problem with the folding version (yet), I'll stick with the one I have and be glad that the fold-down jack lets me slip it into the pocket in the back of my PDA pouch without getting in the way.

So far, so good.

Summary: Pretty damn easy
Review: I'm a total idiot when it comes to technology, so I was very worried about getting this modem, especially as Pocket PC 2002 isn't exactly child's play to fiddle with. Fortunately, the modem is incredibly easy to set up and use, and I couldn't have hoped for more from it in terms of speed and functionality - really simple, really quick.

Summary: It works on Ipaq 3835 with CF expansion pack...but....
Review: it's looks dang~ ugly!
it sticks out 2 inches above the top. (you can actually read "targus" label sticking out of the slot.)

hopely... I don't accidently snap it in half by dropping it or hitting it.

other than that, it's fully functional, very well integrated with pocket 2002 and internet applications.

Review: So far, this product seems to work fine. I've been testing it with a Joranda 540 and a 568. The card sticks out of the ComplactFlash farther than I would like and may be vulnerable if the PDA is dropped or knocked over. The plag for the phone jack seems a little flimsy, so I am concerned about the long term viability of the modem. On the other hand, the product does have a 5-year warranty, so perhaps my concerns are exaggerated.

I had a little trouble configuring the modem at first. It has an "off hook" light so you can know if it is dialing. However, it has not speaker or other lights to indicate if the modem is actually dialing, connecting or sending/receive information. I was getting "no carrier" error messages and I could not tell if it was the modem or the configuration. Trouble shooting was a little difficult and the documentation is rather spares.

I bought the product mainly for check email while I am on the road. I did not want to purchase a lap top and this was the best alternative...

Finally, if you don't have a dialup account, consider a prepaid service... You prepay and they charge by the minute. It's cheaper than having a separate ISP when you are on travel.

Summary: Outstanding Modem!
Review: This is an outstanding compact flash modem for pocket or handheld PC's running Windows CE version 2.0 or higher. With the Targus Compact Flash 56k v.90 Pocket Modem there is no need to set it up, just plug it in, create a connection profile and you are set and ready to browse the Web. I bought it for my Cassiopeia E-125 (perfectly compatible)and I have been surfing the net with speed and easiness. The small dimensions of the modem allow you to carry it on your own pocket or in your pocket PC Case since it is also very slim. This excellent modem is a little bit expensive yet. Anyway, and in spite of the price, this is a must if you want to stay connected to the internet with your pocket pc wherever you are.

Summary: Great Modem
Review: This is the most compact compact flash modem available. In addition it works extremely well but if you have a cell phone with a good plan I recomend you buy a cell phone modem aswell.
