Summary: Solid Cable Modem, no real problems
Review: I've had problems, but after dilligent searching, every problem was found to be something with either my cable company or my computer. The modem is great.

Summary: Excellent Cable Modem
Review: It didn't take me very long to install it. It worked great. The USB Connection works good also. Windows 2000 detected a wrong driver and if you ask the Driver installer to look in the CD for the right driver, it detects the D-Link driver properly and it worked perfectly. An ON/OFF switch in the Cable Modem would have been great...its a great Buy. I have used a Motorola Surfboard cable modem (rented from cable company)earlier...I didn't see much difference in the modem. I have D-Link Wireless router also. It has been great as well

Summary: a good modem
Review: Just got it. So far so good. My cable company, Mediacom, needed the "mac" number from the back of the modem for it to work (common).

Seems to be a spec faster then the rented Com21 modem I had.

Only negative is that it is a little larger and a little uglier than the small well designed Com21 form factor and has less lights on it telling you what is happening. But it works fine. Who cares what it looks like. I can't complain since it was a good price.

Summary: Great price, works perfect!
Review: Just received the DCM-200 cable modem. Easy to set up and works great. I was concerned because it was such a good deal, however, 100% satisfied. My local cable company set it right up. I don't have to ever rent again.

Summary: difficult to get a replacement under warranty
Review: Modem functioned fine for about 10 months; eventually it required daily reboots until it completely failed (would not even attempt to sync w/ cable company). Tech Support / RMA process is poor, requires 2 different calls with almost non-english speaking reps. Replacement also failed and I wonder if they even replaced it or did a bad job of repairing it. In the meantime I have been using a Motorola that functions flawlessly. Please note that DLink has a POOR rating with the the Better Business Bureau. (www.bbb.org).

Summary: customer no service
Review: Modem works o.k. Good luck luck getting your rebate though. They cheated me out of mine and the modem is not worth the non-rebate price.

Summary: D-Link Modem and customer service terrible
Review: Purchased original modem from retailer (Best Buy). After three months the modem stopped working. Contacted the company and was told by the D-Link Customer Service Rep. that I didn't buy the modem from the manufacturer so they don't cover it. I finally convinced them that because they make the modem and it is their warranty, they do cover it. D-Link relinquished and sent me a refurbished modem that had screws rattling around the inside upon arrival (obviously it didn't work). Called them back, convinced them to send me another modem. Third modem (another re-furb) arrived and also did not work. Tried to get them to stop sending me re-furbs because they don't work. They refused to send me a NEW cable Modem.

Tech Support will want to call you back because they never seem to be available. However, they expect you sit home all day and wait for their call so you can be by the modem when they do call. I personally never received a promised call from them. I had to call them and wait for a tech support rep to come to the phone. On all three modems THEIR (D-Link) Techies told me the modem was bad. After third inop modem and much complaining, I received a call from a district manager who told me he would send me a fourth modem in two weeks after they did a full warehouse inventory and he would personally test it at home to make sure it worked. That was six months ago, I guess he never found one that worked. So here I am, still no working modem from D-Link and have not heard a word from them.

After the first modem stopped working, the cable service came out and verified it was a bad modem (cost: $100) and not the hook up or their line. I rented a Motorola from the Cable Service as an interim solution. The Motorola has been working perfectly. I am done dealing with D-Link and will chalk this up to experience and just rent the Motorola.

I personally will never buy another D-Link Product. D-Link products are basically the same price as LinkSys but a much more inferior product. My Wireless LAN is also D-Link. It still works but performs fair at best. When I upgrade, I will go with LinkSys.

Good luck with your purchase. I strongly recommend you stay away from D-Link. You will be very disappointed. The company makes an inferior product, and does not support what they produce. As I found out later, their customer service is rated POOR by BBB.

Hope this helps.

Summary: DCM-200 - Superb
Review: The DCM-200 modem is the first network device I've ever hooked up that installed flawlessly. Installation took less than five minutes from start to finish and, even more surprising, the DCM-200 is noticeably faster than the modem it replaced, an almost new RCA modem provided by Mediacom. The RCA modem was only a few months old but had been a pain to install (a couple of phone calls over two days). Not so with the DCM-200. Installation couldn't have been easier. I just powered everything down, hooked the DCM-200 up, called Mediacom on the phone, powered everything back up when instructed, opened the browser to the IP address provided by Mediacom and everything else was automatic (except for powering down my PC again). I've got three PC's networked together with a switch/router/firewall and have grown accustomed to spending hours fiddling to get everything to play together properly. It was totally unexpected to have the DCM-200 off and running right out of the chute. Installation of network components just doesn't get any easier than with the DCM-200.

The noticeable speed increase I see with the DCM-200 apparently results from less latency in message processing within the modem. Responses from internet sites quite often seem instantaneous, whereas with the earlier RCA modem, responses were most often in the seconds range.
