Summary: does what it is supposed to do
Review: My cable company was getting me for $5 a month, and I was paying it for a full year, then they lowered it to $3 a month and I wasn't so upset anymore. When I see a deal like this, I have to go for it. When a rebate is offered, this will pay for itself in no time at all. I opened it up, and without reading the directions, hooked it up just like the one the cable company gave me. Gave the cable company a call, and gave them the MAC address and now I'm saving $3 a month. Works just like the Scientific Atlanta box that I had. It sits on top of my SMC router and fits nicely.

Summary: BA-ZING! Use this modem if you are using other Linksys!
Review: First of all, if you are like me, you want to pull your HAIR OUT every time you see that cable modem rental charge on your bill. I wishe I had bought my CMU earlier, because, in the amount of money I've paid COX or Comcast, I could have bout several modems. So, there is reason #1 to buy your own modem!

Secondly, this modem, like all linksys products, is easily configured and has nice web administration. My modem has some monitoring features much better than the Toshiba modem that I was using with Comcast (Cox also uses it. Another modem is made by Scientific American, which is a good modem). The biggest problem I had was with Comcast. For whatever reason, they continued to cofuse (B)ravo with Eight (8) on the MAC address so it couldn't provision properly. Just make sure you have all your MAC and Serial information for your provider... your ISP probably won't let the modem auto-provision... so you'll need to set it up before using the modem with the provider.

The other nice thing about this modem is, if you are like me, it integrates really well with other linksys products. My config is a CMU with a Wireless-B router. I have to say that when I hooked up the CMU with the router, it ran MUCH better than the Toshiba and the router. I don't know exactly why this is the case - ostensibly there should be no reason for it.. but the CMU and the Wireless-B from linksys are totally sympatico or something...

You will need some sort of router with this sucker. I don't recommend hooking your comp right to the back of the modem box. There are USB/ethernet drivers for it - and I didn't try them, but, linksys' stuff in the past works pretty simply... and I imagine this stuff is as easy to use.

The modem status lights are pretty straightforward... although they are kind of hard to see what's what without getting up close to it (that's kind of a probleem with all Linksys stuff tho - it's not a biggie).

My modem runs a bit hot - so make sure you don't place anything over it (unless it is another linksys product - which has enough clearance on the feet). It is kind of nice in my situation because I have my modem and whatnot in the ceiling of my TH - and it keeps the units nice and warm...

Otherwise, great modem, great price, very reliable, and totally FLYS with other linksys stuff. I say hook it up to a BEFSR41 or a Wireless-B and you are GOOD TO GO!

Good luck

Summary: Junk
Review: After 5 month's of use the Linksys BEFCMU10 went to crap. I have received unbearable tech/customer service from Linksys about the modem and their BEFSR41 router, I decided to buy the Motorola Surfboard SB5100. The Motorola seems to run faster and smoother than the Linksys ever did. I do not recommend the Linksys BEFCMU10 modem to anybody.

Summary: High hopes, wouldn't work.
Review: Plugged it in, called the cable company, couldn't get it to identify the incoming cable signal. Called Comcast, called Linksys. Both very helpful, both agreed it was a bad modem. Returned it (easy as always) got a new one, same exact sequence of events. Amazon rerfused to send me another on to try a third time. Can't give it a higher rating even though all othe linksys products have worked perfectly for me.

Summary: Piece of cake. Faster than Motorola SB4200 by far.
Review: Great value for the money. When I first set up my home network I was using the free Motorola SB4200 modem from Cablevision OOL. Screen pop was okay running through my router...not as good as running the modem straight to the pc (which was decent). Thought I'd try the Linksys Ehterfast Cable Modem with my BEFSX41 router...POPITY POP POP! What a difference! Great combination. You can't go wrong. Don't bother with crappy hand-me-down modems, break out the crowbar and buy a Linksys modem and a Linksys router and hit the net.

Summary: Affordable, fast, full featured
Review: Nice cable modem for the price, especially if you have other Linksys equipment (e.g. router) since you can stack it.

Have been using Linksys equipment for years and have been fairly pleased.

Summary: This is a great product right out of the box!
Review: My COM21 cable modem died on me after about 7 years of service, and I went and bought this Linksys modem. It is much faster than what I was getting out of COM21, and looks great on my desk stacking nicelyon top of my Linksys router and VI-FI Acess point. I am using at least 7 different products from Linksys during last 4-5 years and I had never have problem with any of them. Linksys products are simple, reasonably priced and they work workwonderful. higly recommended!

Summary: Reliability Problems
Review: Setup easy, performance fine, but died in a few months. Same problem with BEFSR41 Router. This seems more than just coincidence; previously used Linksys and they were good products. Now they are substandard from reliability standpoint. Am replacing all network products with Netgear; will not buy any further Linksys products.

Summary: FAST IS FANTASTIC!
Review: THIS CABLE MODEM IS SUPERFAST! I wouldn't have bought one of these, except my cable company started charging me $5 a month rental fee for their mediocre Motorola Surfboard. I connected via the Ethernet port (not the USB), and with one call to my ISP (cable company) I was up and running. Highly recommended for folks with Adelphia Cable's Powerlink (east coast).
