Summary: For a firt time Cable person, this product rocks!!!
Review: I was pretty skeptical about getting this item. I was almost sold on the notion of leasing the modem from my local ISP, but after reading reviews I decided to go for it. I bought it along with an ethernet card made by the same company. I half heartedly told myself I could handle the installation and save myself the extra fees along with the [money]/month leasing fee. Well I proved myself right. I am running Home XP and didn't even need the driver disks for the items. I plugged them in and whamo, they worked perfectly. I connected the cable and after calling tech support and giving my MAC address I was on in under one minute. Tech support said it could have taken as long as 15. In short this product has worked flawlessly. I opted for the ethernet as opposed to the USB on the advice of the support guy. Not one problem and the speed is incredible! Buy this one, you won't go wrong. OBTW my ISP is Lawton Cablevision, Lawton, OK.

Summary: GREAT Product
Review: This is a great modem. I got it to replace the rented Motorola SB4100 from AT&T. I have it hooked up to a Linksys router with 5 PCs. This modem is getting faster downloads as seen by testing with PCPITSTOP.COM tests. The only negitive is it's strange shape, they could of made it more like their router design so you could stack the componants.
All in all a must consider when looking for a cable modem. BTW it comes with both USB and ethernet connection cables.

Summary: Works great for me
Review: Simple to install (unplug rented Toshiba modem, plug in Linksys, done). Works perfectly with our Linksys router/switch. Speeds are equal to what I got with the previous modem.

Summary: Linksys Cable Modem BEFCMU10
Review: Excellent product. I make house calls and do all sorts of installations for customers, especially in networking. I own one and have installed approx 6 to date. Easy as it can get...Nothing else necessary and it works beautifully.

Summary: Caveat: Doesn't work with Charter Pipeline Service!
Review: I got the beautiful modem and was very excited. Turned out that it doesn't work with the Charters pipeline service. I wish someone had posted a caveat earlier before I purchased the modem. It's too bad, as it would have been a good value. The status lights are too recessed relative to the oval shaped cover, so the lights don't go with the labels on the cover when viewed from any angle other than straight on. That's only a minor gripe, of course, since none of us are going to stare at the flashing lights all day, provided that it works properly. If you are on Charters and found success with this modem, let us know!

Summary: DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS XP
Review: If you buy this modem, don't be surprised to have your Windows XP crash on you!!
Have you ever tried Linksys support - lets just say NOW I have grey hairs! :-)

Summary: Comcast or ( COMMUNIST CAST)!
Review: I recently purchased the linksys cable modem. When I called comcast to switch, I was told that it was not on thier approved modem list and would not work because if they did not enter a modem type it would not go thru. After 3 hrs of insisting that they humor me, they did. Tell them it's a 3com modem, if it is docsis compliant it will work. Don't let them push you around you have the right to use your own modem, and legaly they can not refuse to activate and if they refuse you tech support tell them no matter what modem you use, they are legaly obligated to support their service. I have all linksys products and they have all proven to be of high quality.

Summary: Usage of Linksys Cable Modem
Review: I just received my Linksys cable modem and connected it to my Sony PC system. As other Linksys owners have noted, it works like a charm. Set up is a breeze using either a USB or Ethernet port (the necessary cables are provided). With AT&T Broadband, and I was able to register my modem online using my customer account number(no MAC address is needed). The Linksys cable modem is a snap to use, and now that I have it, I won't have to pay the... monthly rental fee that AT&T charges for its modem.

Summary: Charter Pipeline users w/ static IP, BEWARE!
Review: Not sure this applies to different region but you Charter Pipeline users using those old Comm21 modem and on static IP, don't buy this or any other new cablemodem. I was one of them and I got this Linksys one to save modem rental fee. I'm on their Bronze package (768kbps max download) and used to get around 600-700kbps before the switch. A Charter technician came over to do the mac address thing (you can't do it over the phone yourself with Charter) and pick up the old modem. But unfortunately, he also switch me to DHCP because "[Charter] don't give static IP anymore." After all the switch, now I'm getting capped at around 400kbps +/- 50.

Also, normal web browsing got way more sluggish like having really high latency. With static IP setup, browsing was pretty snappy even while downloading multiple files in background. Now it's frustratingly slow even when downloading just one file.

A Charter rep confirmed that the switch to DHCP is the cause of slowdown but failed to explain why they capped me at around 400kbps when the plan I subcribed is for 768kbps max. I wonder why don't they just go ahead and cap me at the minimum guaranteed speed of 320kbps....

This situation could be unique to me or my neighbor and I'm sure this Linksys modem is not at fault but I'm very unhappy about this switch nonetheless...

Summary: Works great with SusCom.net and is CableLabs Certified!!!
Review: This modem is great! I don't know where other reviewers get their information, but the Linksys BEFCMU10 is definately CableLabs Certified, & this can be verified at the CableLabs website or the Linksys website. This modem performs well and definately provides a lot of "Bang-for-the-Buck". This modem is on the approved equipment list for my local company, as well as Comcast, AT&T, and others. At the price for this modem, anyone who wouldn't buy one to save the ... rental is nuts, it pays for itself in less than a year! Another great buy from Linksys! Way to go!
