Summary: Fit and Forget - what more can you ask
Review: ATT BI service. It runs day and night and has done for months - never restarted other than with power outages (not any more thanks to a UPS). I am on an old cable network in an old part of town and still manage 1.5Mbps regularly. Good enough for me.

Summary: RCA DCM226 is a BAD Product
Review: Avoid this modem and buy any other manufacturer's modem and you will save yourself a lot of downtime. I have had the RCA DCM226 for several years and there have been constant problems with it dropping the signal. The slightest movement or vibration causes the modem to lose electical connection. I talked to the RCA technical folks and they know this is a reported problem with OTHER modems that they sell, but claim there are NO reported cases of this problem with the DCM226. I suggested that they do a Goggle search if they wanted to know how badly the modem was operating for their customers. They were "clueless". I requested that they register my call as a problem with the connection so that the next caller to their tech service will not get the same response I got. There are reports that this modem has been operating poorly for years. I believe they have their 6 Sigma reversed 1.6 good ones for every million produced....however, I have not talked to the 1.6 satisfied customers...yet. I am still waiting for the promised return telephone call from the RCA Tech service supervisor.

Summary: Satisfied ATT@HOME/ATTBI user
Review: Full disclosure: I have one of these as part of my broadband contract, but I'm considering a purchase. In short, I'd buy one if it is price-competitive. It has proven reliable over 2-3 months, it runs cool (no heat problem), and it requires little or no attention. I did have to reset it once; that is, I had a connectivity problem that was not cured by resetting my router, so I reset the cable-modem. Using the power button on the front did not make a difference, but I unplugged power for a few seconds and that fixed the connection. Other than that, no issues at all. I will note that the unit strikes me as a little bulky (that bulge you see on the left in the photo), and I can't wall-mount the device - minor nits overall. To recap, if I can get it at a good price, I'd buy it.

Summary: Cox@Home Internet Acceptable Modem
Review: FYI... I haven't tried this modem, but it is one the ten modems acceptable for use with Cox@Home Internet service. The downside is that it can't be shipped to your house. It has to be picked up at Circuit City.

Summary: Poor power connector
Review: I bought this modem when it was on sale. Since then, it kept dropping the connection now and then. It turned out to be the loose power connector. If you move the modem, it's more likely than not that the modem would start looking for the signal from scratch. Once it started to automatically drop connections on me. So I called the cable company. The tech support came and said it could be because the _temperature variation_ that the connection was lost and it was quite common in RCA models. So he replaced the connector for me. Well, it doesn't drop the connection automatically anymore. But I still need to be very careful not to shake it or knock it. So I put it in a corner. So far so good. But if you are buying a cable modem, skip this one unless you can get a free one ;) The reason for 2 stars is because when it works, it works fine. I tested the bandwidth of this modem, download was always >1mb/s. I'm sure other modems would produce similar results if not better -- DCM226 is a fairly old model after all.

Summary: Very good modem
Review: I have been using one of these for more than a year, renting it from a local cable company. It has been very reliable. I'm now relocating and I'm going to buy one of my own.

Summary: Rmmmmm... *crash*
Review: I have had this modem for about 10 months (came with comcast@home kit) and we've had a lot of with it losing the signal (only split once, against my wishes) and having to reset it.

But it was running fine until this week, where it cannot find the signal for the life of it. We have three lines in and tried several configurations with no luck. Thank god its only a rental. I am buying a Linksys (only because Netgear doesn't make them).

Summary: A BAD BAD modem. Physical violence required.
Review: I just bought mine and it has to hose a website (A forum) So I hope it will works. I have to have it running without dropping my connection so if I have any problmes, I will be mad. Ihave to pay for a seccond IP for the modem so if I'm paying and the modem isn't working, I'm calling comcast. All and all, RCA is a good brand,, I'v used RCA before and they are very good. So, yes I reccomend this prodect.

Summary: Lost connection very easily
Review: I signed up for internet cable and decided to rent the cable modem at first. The cable company delivered this RCA model; so I technically didn't buy, I rented it. Highly unreliable. Seemed to have a loose connection. If you accidentally tapped the modem with your foot, you could lose the connection. Once the kids started jumping in the room, and this cable modem lost the connnection. Come on. On the other hand, when it worked, it was fine.
