Rating: Summary: Just perfect. Review: I had my cable jack installed and ready for over a month while waiting for the local preferred-provider to get a new shipment of modems. I got disgusted, ordered this one from Amazon and couldn't be more pleased. I took it out of the box, plugged in the power supply, screwed on the coaxial cable (not provided) and attached the ethernet cable (provided) and was live in 60 seconds! I went to DSLReports.com, tweaked my connection and then ran their speed test utility, with perfect results.
Rating: Summary: Works Great Review: I've bought this to replace my old Surfboard modem and get rid of monthly rental fee. The modem worked as advertised, it connects on average in 5 seconds compared to my old one which took a few minutes. One unexpected improvement was also speed increase. I've been told by my cable company that the cable lines where I live tend to be noisier than average, resulting in poor pings and transfer rates, its pretty much gone now that I am using this modem.Best Data also has an excellent prompt tech support via email, which I thought I needed when my cable provider failed to add my MAC address to their system.
Rating: Summary: Difficult problem - Easy to fix! Review: To make a long story short, I bought this modem back in 2001 in advance of my cable installation. The installer could not get it to work - the cable light would flash slowly indicating it could not get a signal. After repeated attempts the installer left me with a rental modem which worked fine. I sent the CMX-110 back to Best Data who quickly replaced it under warranty. When I received the replacement, I hooked it up again to find the same symptoms as the original. Just when cable tech support and I were ready to give up on this, one of the tech guys said he heard a rumor and suggested I take a pair of needle-nose pliers and pull on the "stinger" (that is the actual cable wire that sticks out past the cable end). He had heard that this modem required just a little longer "stinger" than was standard. I was initially disappointed when I tried this because I could only get just the tiniest bit more wire to come out. But when I tried it, I got an immediate connection and it's been fine ever since!
Rating: Summary: Works great Review: I recently purchased my Best Data CMX110 cable modem, and it works fine. In my area, I was the first customer to switch over to their OWN modem after Excite@home terminated ATT Broadband, so it was a little bit of a hassle to get it registered to ATT's new cable internet service. I did have a tech support question to ask Best Data, and although it was a long distance number, it was answered by a real person after only a few minutes wait, a very pleasant surprise. By the way, there is a typo error on ATT Broadband's list of "approved" cable modems. It shows the Best Data CMZ110 instead of the current model CMX110. Be assured, this modem works fine; Best Data never made a CMZ anything, so be aware, ATT may give you a hassle that the CMX110 is not approved. They've been advised by me and by Best Data that their information is incorrect, but so far have not updated their list. The exact model number is actually not critical, but the MAC address is (located on the bottom of the modem) and must be given to your ISP, along with the serial # before it will work.
Rating: Summary: Works great! It's time to stop renting and buy this... Review: This modem works great on the COX network. Hooked it up - all of 2 minutes, called the cable company with the included MAC address and I was off and running. It's quicker than the Motorola modem I was renting at ...a month! With the great price from Amazon my purchase will pay for itself in only 9 months. One other thing, the power consumption is low at 8 Watts or less, about as much as a nightlight. This is a very sensible investment, unless you like donating to the cable companies!
Rating: Summary: OK, but failed too soon for my tastes Review: This modem was really easy to setup, worked like a charm, but then it died after a year and 1/2. I would like to think that a piece of electronics with no moving parts would become obsolete before it breaks, but that was not the case with this modem. It lasted about 1/2 as long as I think it should have for my money, so I give it 3 stars. My cable company recommended the Toshiba PCS2200 as the modem they have the fewest problems with, so that is what I purchased as a replacement (it has a 5 year warranty instead of only 1). Sorry Best Data... I most likely won't purchase another product from you.
Rating: Summary: Never had a problem yet.. and it's been almost 2 years Review: Works perfect for me. Plug and play not plug and pray...
Rating: Summary: Couldn't be better Review: This cable modem couldn't have been easier or better. I have had it for almost a year, and it was worked every day with not one glitch. Speeds are fantastic. I check the speed using broadband measuring tools (like at 2wire.com), frequently, and the modem has performed consistently above the level I expect with my contract. (of course speeds are mostly determined by the cable company and the number of people on my part of the system). A quality piece of equipment!
Rating: Summary: Great Modem..Great Price Review: I bought this on sale...it can't be beat. I just hooked it up. My cable service team said it was one of the quickest hook up times they had ever done. Their system recognized it very quickly. It seems to work quicker than the Motorola Surfboard 4100 I was renting for...month.
Rating: Summary: Works Beautifully! Review: This modem works like a dream. I've never had any problems with it, and the new price I see on it is too good to be true. It makes me want to get another one just to have it! Highly recommended!
