Summary: Another headache
Review: I ordered the 3com 3cr29210 after checking with the tech support people at Mediacom, (formerly @home), who assured me that any modem would work as long as it was docsis compliant (which this model is - supposedly). However, when I connected the modem and computer through the USB ports as instructed, there was no Internet (Windows XP didn't recognize the device). Strangely, when I connected my computer and the device via an ethernet adapter, it worked great. The only problem is that I need to return the adapter with the my previous modem in order to stop the excessive [money] monthly rental fee, which is the whole point of this endeavor. Now I am shopping for ethernet adapters on ebay, a little confused about the whole issue.

Summary: High Speed But Watch Out
Review: I ordered this modem because of the great technical reviews and, of course, the unbeatable price. My high-speed internet access was installed by AT&T two days ago. The USB port on the modem does not work. The ethernet port works fine. Actually, it works better than fine. According to a couple of speed test sites, my connection is 33% faster then normal cable modem connections. I would call 3Com about the USB port but I don't think its worth it. They'll probably just string me along until I hang up.
Also, beware of AT&T Broadband. The service tech said my modem was not compatible. He tried to get me to lease theirs. Maybe he was trying to earn a promotion to the Sales dept.

Summary: Not just like @home
Review: I ordered this modem because of the review I read that said it worked great. So far all problems point to the modem. 3com website is very vague and doesn't really support the 3CR29210. It must have been a 3Com employee that posted the review trying to unload these thing. I'm still trying to resolve the issue with attbi.com support.

Summary: 3com office connect modem
Review: I purchased this modem because I was looking for a cheap one for my cable ISP. I was in luck to find this one at uBid.com for about $40 shipped. The modem did have some issues but they were all cleared up after I requested a firmware upgrade on dslReports.com for Optimum OnLine. I cannot stress the face enough about finding out whether your ISP is compatible with any modem before you purchase one.

Review: I purchased this modem in late February of this year and it failed last week. The cable company (suscom) provided me with a rental modem which I'm currently using. Is the 3Com modem covered by warranty for this period of usage?

Summary: Not in Mesa, AZ
Review: I put a 3 rating to be neutral, but I don't know if it is a good modem or not since it will not work in my area. I bought it because of the price & my local cable/ISP told me "it should work since it is DOCSIS compliant", but when the technician came to install it, he said otherwise. Makes you wonder who and when to believe people! If you live in Mesa, AZ or the Phoenix area, don't bother, because neither Cable America nor Cox will support it. I am returning it, and will buy the Motorola or Toshiba instead.

Summary: Works Like A Charm!
Review: I received my 3Com cable modem yesterday. I called the ISP and gave the tech the ethernet address of the modem and, while I was on the phone, he entered the info into their system, and presto, it was working beautifully! I highly recommend it. I doubt that you could find another one as good at this price. The $20 rebate ends 3/30/02.

Summary: Easy and it worked!
Review: I unboxed the unit, unpluged the old unit (com21), pluged the cables into the new unit, started my computer and waited a few minutes for it to set itself up and it worked. It truly was that simple. I have "attbi" and as I said, zero problems!

Summary: Buy this modem to avoid renting one from the ISP
Review: I was very pleased to obtain this modem (3CR29210) and installed it without any problems. I transferred the cables from the previously installed modem and the new modem picked up the cable connection in less than 5 minutes. The only negative is that the package had a sticker on the outside that indicated a different model (3CR29220)should be used for installation on the ( @home ) cable setup. I called the 3Com installation number, listed in the "getting started guide" and a very capable person informed me that for home use the models were interchangable. That turned out to be the case and I highly recommend this as a replacement for an ISP supplied rental modem. The manufacturer also has a 5 year support warranty for this modem.
