Rating: Summary: If you rent one now, buy this one and save the monthly fee!! Review: I'm a big believer in broadband. But, I am not a fan of the high price. If you want to save a few bucks off of your monthly bill, look to buy this cable modem. TOSHIBA makes excellent products and this cable modem is no exception. The design is half the size of most cable-company-provided rental modems. It's easily hidden behind entertainment centers or in small nooks and crannies of blank space on your shelves. Installation is a snap and I was up and running in five minutes. A CAT 5 cable and easy to follow instructions are provided. Morever, this modem is perfectly compatible with most cable systems, including Charter Communications. In addition, setup to a wireless router was as easy as plugging the CAT 5 cable between the router and modem and rebooting everything. FLAWLESS performance so far and at a very nice price. Based on my costs, I'll recover my investement in the modem in a little over a year. As cable will be most people's best broadband option, I recommend picking up this Toshiba modem for the long term.

Rating: Summary: Flawless Review: I've been a cable internet subscriber for over a year. Back when I first signed up, cable modems were going for $250 or more, so it made sense to rent from the cable company for $x per month. Not anymore! With this Toshiba cable modem, you get a low price and flawless performance! The specs for throughput on this modem are more than respectable, they've more than doubled the specs of the modem I was renting. To get the most out of your new cable modem, I highly recommend visiting speedguide.net and downloading one or more of their registry patches.
Rating: Summary: Too Hot? Review: I've been using this modem for sometime now and it performs fabulously! I live in Arizona and have the modem setup in my home office, it often gets VERY hot. I've never had a problem with this modem. My connection speeds have remained very consistant. I highly recommend this modem to anyone interested.
Rating: Summary: Great and cheap! Review: It's a recommended modem with my cable company - which, previously, with an old motorola, I assumed meant it would work with the cable connection. The motorola didn't, but the cheaper toshiba did!
Rating: Summary: PCX2200 - - maybe, maybe not... Review: Just installed this but had to do it in a roundabout way. First off, the modem has big warning signs not to connect any cables until the software tells you to. Ok fine. I pop in the CD, it goes through the instructions. It does tell you to plug in the AC adapter into the back of the modem. It doesn't tell you when to plug it into an electrical outlet. By the time it starts trying to detect the modem (and fails, obviously,) I figure I better plug it into the wall. Even with the modem plugged in, the software can't detect the modem if you're running through a router. Doesn't seem to need the drivers, at least if you're running through an ethernet card. The installation troubleshooting guide was no help. I gave up on the software running in circles and exited. In spite of all this it still worked once I gave the cable company my MAC ID. (Software still can't detect the modem, though.) Here's the strange part. I've been running speedtests on two different computers. The Win98 computer that the modem is directly connected to runs really, really slow and doesn't come near my 1.5MB connection. My other WinXP computer that is networked through a wireless router gets nice 1.5MB transfer rates off this same modem. Go figure. I can't speculate on why one computer runs slow and another runs fast, but I can say I had a Motorola Surfboard SB5120 before this and I didn't have these problems, even when running through a router.

Rating: Summary: Excellent piece of hardware Review: Moving from 56k which was never 56k but rather varied between 37k and 51k to the Toshiba cable modem was like trading in a unicycle for a corvette. The Toshiba is like the pretty girl at the prom, it has everything going for it. It offers a sleek design with a clearly visible LED display. It offers dual connectivity with USB or Ethernet. Its speeds are 100 times faster than 56k. It never drops a connection and does not tie up your phone line. And to think, I received the Toshiba from my Cable ISP free as standard equipment.
Rating: Summary: Worked great for a year...and then Kaput Review: No problems, fast and cheap until exactly 1 year. Then slowly kept dropping more and more until it never could establish the connection. Not a great choice.
Rating: Summary: Excellent cable modem at a bargain price. Review: Recently I decided to switch from a dial-up internet service provider with a 56K modem to cable internet service with the a cable modem. The cable modem service has several advantages: (1) I don't have to dial a number to access it; it's on all the time, (2) It's MUCH faster than a 56K modem, and (3) using my computer via a cable modem doesn't tie up my telephone line. My cable company specifically recommended that I buy a Toshiba cable modem so I bought the new Toshiba Pcx2200. So far it has performed flawlessly and I am thoroughly satisfied with it. It seems to be quite versatile: it works with both PCs and Macs (I use a Mac) and is compatible with both ethernet and USB interfaces. The low price was a pleasant surprise -- many other cable modems that were not specifically recommended by my cable company were more expensive. I've had a long histrory of satisfaction with Toshiba products and highly recommend this one.
