Summary: Excellent Cable Modem
Review: I highly recommend this cable modem. I had been renting a 3comm modem from my cable company for $9 a month. I decided the price had come down low enough to justify buying my own modem. I provided the MAC address to the cable company in the morning, connected the Linksys cable modem in the afternoon, and it did it's job, just like you would expect. No problems at all. I have a Linksys 4 port router and have 3-4 computers on-line every night and we all surf happily. Thanks Linksys for the excellent products. And thanks Amazon.com for another pleasant buying experience.

Summary: Modem works great, super easy installation.
Review: If you are deciding to buy your cable model, save yourself about $100 by buying this modem rather than one from your cable provider.

I had Cox Cable's cable modem setup for Windows 98 and Windows 2000 for about a month (before and after the downfall of excite.com) and it worked just fine. I bought this modem, turned my computer off, unhooked the old modem, plugged this one in, powered on my computer and it worked perfectly! I couldn't have asked for an easier transition. (Plus it works great with my router/hub - which happens to be linksys as well.)

Summary: No problem with ATTBI here in Sunnyvale
Review: Saw one review said it's not working with the ATTBI here in Sunnyvale, I can prove it's not the case as I am using it now. I think it's a quality product, stylish and well build. I especially like the build-in web page for status checking.

Summary: Comcast refuses to support this cable modem
Review: It is actually not fair to rate 1 star for this cable modem since I never had any chance to use it. I bought this cable modem on 1/15/02. Then, my ISP, Comcast, told me that they could not support this cable modem simply because BEFCMU10 is too new on the market. Linksys claims that Comcast has already certified BEFCMU10. However, Comcast continues to tell me to throw away this modem and use their certified cable modem. If your ISP is Comcast, call them at least 3 times before you buy this modem since different Comcast sales representative can tell you totally different story about the cable modem they support.

Summary: Pain Free Installation
Review: An awesome deal and an awesome cablemodem. Hassle free installation. All I did was take it to AT&T Broadband local office, told them to provision it, returned the old modem and I was set. Brought it home and everything worked at get go! Just a reminder: Since Linksys is not yet listed at AT&T , tell them to choose 3COM instead. It doesn't make a difference.

Summary: Great product, easy install, super performance
Review: I read some of the reviews before I purchased this product. Wonder why some folks had problems -- installation was quick, easy and seamless (ofcourse, I was merely replacing the AT&T Broadband modem with mine). Transfer rates are great/as expected.
Feels good to own it.

Summary: Clueless
Review: I was clueless to which cable modem to purchase. Read the reviews and decided on this one. I was worried that it would not work with attbi but it works great. It took about 1 minute to hook up and get going once I found out what to do. If you have ATT cable , go to their homepage and go to the chat room technical support (it was more helpful than the telephone support). All I had to do to get the modum going was to hook up the modem to my computer, plug it in, go to the web site the ATT tech support gave me, entered my account and registration number and it worked!

Summary: Sleek cable modem that works great
Review: I bought the Linksys cable modem along with Linksys' DSL/Cable router/AP/w 4 port swtiches and a wireless PCI card to build a
home network for my PCs to share high speed internet access last December. After the cable guy from Cable America wired cable to my house, plugged in the cable modem, read the MAC over the phone to their IT guy, the cable modem simply just worked flawlessly.

It took the modem a few minutes to synchronize to the cable signal the first time after the installation. Since then it only takes less than 20 seconds each time I turn it on. I love the sleek industrial design and the vertical footprint. It saves desk space and looks cool.

The cable guy did a download speed test using pcpitstop.com after the installation and was getting 1.4 Mbit/s. He tried to explain to me why I was not getting the 3.2 Mbit/s that I was paying for. I did a few more tests myself afterwards and was always getting less than 1.6 Mbit/s. That's when I followed the links at the site to fine tune my Windows registry. After the fine tuning, I am now occasionally getting the 3.2 Mb/s that I am paying for, but mostly getting 2.4 - 2.6 Mb/s. That is almost 2X what I was getting before the tuning. So before you complain to your cable provider about not getting the speed you are paying for, you definitely want to look into tuning your Windows registry. Machines running the Linux OS do not have this problem.

Summary: Works OK, beware of ATT service ignorance
Review: I got the Linksys BEFCMU10 and replaced the ATT leased modem with it: DHCP and DNS worked, but could not connect anywhere.
So I contacted ATT service (via chat), gave all the detail (model, serial num, MAC address) and was told to wait 48 hours.
A week later, still not working, contacted ATT again, same story.
Third time around the guy answered: Just put on the new modem, then browse to sas.attbi.com and insert there a couple of numbers (which he gave me) and walla -- the modem worked immediately!

I returned the leased modem myself to the ATT service store.

Summary: Linksys Cable Modem is a gem!
Review: I'm extremely pleased with the Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem. Linksys has managed to develop a standards-based cable modem that will work with any DOCSIS 1.0 cable ISP. AT&T Broadband is really supportive of 3rd party cable modems. I just plugged it in, plugged my computer in, and I was online! And this cable modem is FAST, too! The average consumer's experience with this product will depend highly on the support and speed of their ISP. This modem is top-notch, and a screamer! It has a 10/100Mbps Ethenet! If something goes wrong, it won't be with the cable modem. I would happily recommend this cable modem to anyone looking for a quality product that delivers performance and reliability.
