Rating: Summary: Comcast NJ User - Works out of the box Review: I am a Comcast HSI customer in NJ for the last 3 years with a rented modem at $7/month. I unboxed this modem, made all the physical connections, and it all worked without a hitch!! The directions state that it can take a little while for the modem to acquire a signal and it did. The modem took about 10 minutes to get a signal, and didn't, so I powered cycled the box and then it attain the signal within 5 minutes after that. I did not have to call anyone to enable it with Comcast. I started using it within 20 minutes of openning the box. The download rates appear much faster and it worked seemlessly with my Linksys 4 port Cable/DSL Router which I highly recommend as well
Rating: Summary: Comment on Windows XP Review: I recently purchased this modem and I'm using it with ATT. My download speeds are near 2Mbps and I'm loving it. Just wanted to comment that this modem runs really well with Windows XP (what I have) contrary to what others have said here. I'm connecting via an Ethernet card (NIC), and I think most of the problems with XP are from those who are connecting via the USB port (Linksys has not yet released the USB driver for XP, hence the problems). Anyway, if you are connecting via an ethernet card, this modem is the way to go!
Rating: Summary: Bad Modem with AT&T Review: I love most Linksys products but after reapeated phone calls and trying everything imaginable, we couldn't get this modem to work with AT&T in the Seattle area. Swithed to an RCA DCM 245 and everything worked likea charm
Rating: Summary: A Superb AT&T Approved Modem Replacement Review: The replacement of this modem using AT&T(Tech Vincent)online tech chat was done efficently, fast and mentally painless. During chat I was provided a link to AT&T registration site and the final phase using the AT&T desktop icon was a quick check list walk through. The first stop on the cyber-speed way was Test My Speed.com(496kbs). The second stop was PC Pitstop.com for download tests. A 500kb file at 1869kbs and 5000kb at 1344kbs, download time was rated in ms. This is a attractive appliance and the color scheme looks good next to my Iomega Zip. For the capabilities and half the cost of other approved AT&T modems this is really a good buy.
Rating: Summary: Works Great!!!, Just Don't Get Tripped Up by the Lights Review: This is a great little modem. I hooked up through the ethernet port so I didn't have any compatibility problems with the operating system, that only applies through the USB connection. My ISP is ATTBI. Initially, the cable light would not stay nailed up like it did on my leased RCA modem. According to the manual, the cable light is an indication of communication between the modem and the internet. If you are not sending or receiving data, the cable light cycles about every 20 seconds. This was an indication to the ATTBI technician that the modem was receiving an intermittent signal (an incorrect assumption). He advised me that the modem was bad and to contact Linksys. He did however, despite the conclusion he had made, load the MAC address for my Linksys modem into the system luckily for me (I'm sure the irony was lost on that individual or else they were looking to charge me twice to change out the MAC address twice anyway...). Fortunately, I had some "techie" friends who saw through that tech support nonsense and told me to proceed through the set-up process. I never had to contact Linksys and my modem works great. It took less than 5 minutes to set up.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Smooth Performer Review: I'm using my BEFCMU10 with AT&T Broadband. I did some homework beforehand and determined that this particular Linksys Cable Modem was supported by AT&T, and I installed it in advance along with a hardware firewall router (highly recommended, but that's a topic for another forum). When the installer arrived, he didn't like the condition of the feed into the house, so he pulled a new cable and installed a new junction box on the house. Inside, I have a 4-port signal booster amplifier with three ports active. The installer put the splitter upstream of my amplifier, ran one side directly to the cable modem outlet and put a filter on the other side to keep TV signals from back-feeding the data path. He indicated to me that this was one of the keys to error-free data transmission. After the physical install was complete, he called the support center and registered the BEFCMU10's hardware address with the AT&T cable system. I did the PC installation and called in the hardware address of my firewall router, and the whole thing came up on the first try. No problems so far (about four weeks post-install, as of this writing), and the Linksys BEFCMU10 Cable Modem is proving to be about as trouble-free as they come.
Rating: Summary: Another great product from Linksys Review: I am becoming a big fan of Linksys products. I had my cable modem installed 2 weeks ago and have not had any problems with the modem. All the technician did when he installed the modem was to plug it in and call the MAC address in. It could not have been easier There are reports of issues with Windows XP and this modem. I would be willing to bet that the people that are experencing the issues are using the USB interface, since I have not had any issues while using the LAN interface. Actually I have the modem connected to my Linksys Wireless router / switch. The bottom line. If you plan on using the USB interface and Windows XP, I would check the Linksys website to see if they have new drivers to correct the issues. Otherwise, I would recomend this modem to anyone.
Rating: Summary: works great Review: Will not work on Windows XP...Drivers are not available yet. but it worked on my other computer which had Windows ME. Like the slim design.
Rating: Summary: Does not work with AT&T Broadband; no tech support Review: I bought a Linksys modem to replace the RCA modem rented from AT&T. Contrary to other reviews on this site, the Linksys modem IS certified by CableLabs and IS listed on the AT&T web site as compatible. Nevertheless, I could not get it to work - it would not hold a connection for more than a few seconds. AT&T tech support tried hard, but could not help me. One tech guy told me they were seeing a "lot of problems" with Linksys modems. Apparently, the Linksys modem requires a strong signal & will not tolerate line splitters upstream (I've got two splitters), so it won't work if you also have cable TV. After I reinstalled my rented modem, I checked the Linksys web site. No help info at all on this product! Waited on hold for 30 minutes for tech support, then gave up. Back it goes to Amazon - I'll buy an RCA just like the rented unit.
Rating: Summary: Awesome and easy! Review: I had previously bought the Best Data Cable modem from Amazon, and needless to say after spending a whole week with AT&T, it just did not want to work (thanks Amazon for the quick refund!). I later purchased Linksys, and got it hooked up in 5 minutes!...I swear that the speed was a lot faster than the Toshiba that I was renting from AT&T. Only complaint I had is that it does not have an on/off switch, but not a big deal....
