Summary: Unreliable hardware
Review: Initial setup & perfomance were excellent.

However, the modem only worked for about 1 week (24 hours/day). The symptom was the missing green "cable" light, indicating that the cable signal was not reaching the modem. In troubleshooting, I went through the following hassles:
- Visit from AT&T technician, who identified the problem down to the faulty modem. (will charge for the visit, if the problem is on your side.)
- Modem switching fee, when you register your replacement modem. (This is in addition to the initial switching fee for putting the Best Data modem in service.)

Given the difficulty in identifying hardware failures and subsequent hassles, I do not recommend this unreliable hardware.

Summary: beware Millenium Cablespeed users
Review: according to technical help at Millenium, this modem does not work with their cablespeed service. do not buy it if Millenium is your cable ISP.

Summary: So far so good
Review: I've had this for about a week, and it works just great. I've been a cable modem user for a couple years, and bought this so I wouldn't have to continue leasing a modem. Switching from a leased modem to this one was pretty painless, even though this particular model wasn't on the AT&T list of approved models (an AT&T tech assured me that any DOCSIS modem should work, and I chose this based on price -- the 3Com OfficeConnect is cheaper, but no longer supported). Just make sure you contact your cable company before you start to connect it -- they gave me a secret URL to go to, and account numbers to enter, to configure it once it was installed. That done, and everything worked smoothly.

I haven't noticed the heat-related problems that someone else described, though the modem does seem to get warm quickly. It looks like it's designed well for heat dissipation, so hopefully it won't be an issue. Download speeds are comparable to the leased modem, including downloads of over 160K/second (that's kiloBYTES, guys, not kiloBITS) this morning, sustained over several minutes.

All in all, I've been impressed so far.

Summary: and now for the rest of the story
Review: I previously reviewed this modem, giving it 5 stars because it was so easy to set up and initially it worked fine. Well, I spoke too soon. About 3 weeks after installing it started losing cable connectivity, exhibiting a classic "warmup" problem: it would work fine for about 20 minutes after powerup, but then quit.

Just to be sure, I had AT&T come out to check the cable. The technician thought perhaps it was an interference problem (I live near some broadcast towers), tried cleaning up the connections, etc., but to no avail. Eventually he replaced the Best Data modem with a Surfboard 4100 (which he says works in the harshest environments). The Surfboard has been working fine ever since.

Luckily my Best Data modem died within 30 days so Amazon very graciously refunded my money (what a great company!). It's a good thing, too, because, without paying $7 (=3 weeks of modem lease from AT&T), I could not get any support at all from Best Data (nobody answers phone or email).

I'm going to go back to leasing from AT&T. A Surfboard costs about [item price], which is too long to amortize, and it's just not worth the hassle if something goes wrong.

Summary: Good price and it works OK
Review: I bought this modem based on the reviews I read here and the cheap price. It does not have power on/off and reset buttons. If you need to reset, just unplug the power cord for a few seconds and it should reset everything. I do not have a network card on my computer, but the modem did work with a USB adapter. Some claimed much better speed, it's not on my computer. I used several modem test web sites and all got me the similar speeds as with my old RCA modem. The replacement was actually harder than I thought, but not because of the modem and it's a long story. Anyway, I got it working after 6 phone calls to AT&T broadband.

Summary: Good for ATT Broadband in LA
Review: I have read all the reviews here and posts from other BBS.
I just wanted to make sure it would work with ATT Broadband.
Yes, it worked easily and quickly for me. The only thing I
wasn't happy about it: it was said this modem could give me
higher speed than the one I leased from ATT, but I got the
same speed. Anyway, this is my illusion and may not really
happen. Another thing I wasn't happy about is ATT charged me
around $10 for replacing ATT's modem with my own, and I even
had to drive to the office to drop off their modem and change
the Mac address.

Anyway, this modem is working well now. The price is good
after rebate and coupon.

Summary: Best Data Cable Modem
Review: This modem cmx110 is an attbi "approved" modem. That means it'll work (unless defective) with AT&T broadband cable service...Everything worked fine except I noticed I couldn't have the modem too close to my PC or the LED by PC went out (Maybe RF interference). I checked its data rate and it was just behind a T1 (at the time I did it) so it transfers data quite successfully....Free shipping applies...

Summary: Up and Running in 2 minutes!!
Review: I just purchased this modem and it works flawlessly. I have ATTBI out of Waukegan, IL (far north suburbs of Chicago). Plugged it in and called 888-262-6300 for ATTBI and they told me to go to sas.r2.attbi.com (works even when the modem is not online yet). Walked me thru the numbers to input on the screen, rebooted my machine and was on the net. Did not have to do anything the other reviews said. This is the CMX110 and it DOES work with ATTBI. I had a Surfboard SB3100 that I was leasing. I think the Best Data is faster. Now saving [money each] month!

Summary: Great modem, great value
Review: Setup was a snap. Unplugged old modem, plugged in this one, renewed my IP address and I was instantly on the Internet. AT&T had given me a website to register the new modem at so it was really convenient. Also, the new modem has somehow increased my upload and download speeds over my AT&T supplied modem.

The only problem was the ad says you can use this modem via USB with an optional adapter. ... I don't really care cause I am using the Ethernet connection anyway. Just a note. :)
