Rating: Summary: Very nice trackball, but for righties only Review: I started using Logitech trackballs several years ago and have never been disappointed with them - in fact, I find it hard to use computers that have traditional mice! Recently, my TrackMan Marble gave out, and I replaced it with the TrackMan Marble Wheel. I found it to be a quality product as well.Having used a TrackMan before, my thumb already was conditioned for use, but I still had to adjust the mouse settings in the Control Panel to make sure I could reach all parts of the screen. I have a little difficulty because I'm missing some muscles in my right hand, but I can still use the TrackMan well. I also appreciated the customizable buttons - the wheel doubles as a third button, which I use as a double-click button. There are many other options available, including the ability to switch the click and right-click buttons if you wish. I was disappointed to see that Logitech didn't make this a four-button mouse; I would have liked to see the three original buttons (from the TrackMan Marble design) remain and have the wheel/button be a fourth button. Also, I found the wheel to be a bit more difficult to use as a button - I tend to scroll as I click from time to time, which causes me to open things I didn't want to open. The wheel is very valuable - I found that I missed it immediately when I went to a computer without one. The wheel makes scrolling much easier in applications, and you can set the scroll amount from the Control Panel as well, although you may have to find a compromise because you can't set the amount separately for separate applications. The quality is excellent. You certainly won't have to clean it as often as traditional mice, although it still needs to be cleaned periodically (or more often, if you're into Diablo-type games). Cleaning is easy - just insert the tip of a pen into the little dot on the mouse, and with a turn, the retaining ring pops out and the ball can be cleaned. You can use this in a USB port or as a PS/2 mouse; however, if you plug it into a USB port, understand that you may have difficulties if you have several USB devices or if you have an intensive device like a Zip drive connected. I've rarely experienced problems, but on occasion, if my Zip drive struggles, it locks up the mouse as well. This is more of a USB issue than a Logitech issue, though, as you can tell from reading the Iomega Zip reviews! Just keep it in mind. I've never felt bad after buying a Logitech mouse, and this was no exception. The only suggestion I'd make to Logitech is to design a left-handed TrackMan Marble. I like to divide my home and work usage equally, especially when a Diablo II or Icewind Dale is released, and you can't get one of these for a lefty. Other than that, I give it high marks and would definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Pleasantly Surprised Review: I threw away my Microsoft Trackball. I enjoyed it- found it slightly uncomfortable, however the rest of my family (wife and two boys) found it impossible to accomodate. After receiving a promotional discount, I was tempted to try another similar mouse...BINGO! This Logitech Marble Wheel is GREAT. My seven year old and eleven year old stepsons as well as my wife are not complaining. This is a comfortable, enjoyable mouse.

Rating: Summary: This product saved my hand! Review: I use computers a great deal (and used to work with them on a professional basis) and this led to my developing wrist and hand pain from operating keyboard and mouse. Part of the fix for me was to replace my ergonomic mouse with a Logitech Trackman Marble. I LOVE this pointing device! It is comfortable and "falls readily to hand" as it were, it never gets jerky, jumpy or stuck since it is fully optical, and it is incredibly smooth. My wrist/hand pain went away! As a bonus, I LOVE playing games with this device. Manipulating your character in games like Quake, Heretic or Ultima IX is so much more natural using the thumb-ball on the trackman than it used to be using a mouse... It's easy to feel much more directly connected to the game, to be less conscious of the presence of a pointing device. As a last note, the quality is great. Mine is now three years old and going strong, with no degredation of any sort. If anything, it is better with use -- the ball and the surface on which it rests have become more polished and more silky over time!
Rating: Summary: OPTICAL - no cleaning EVER! Review: I use this on a laptop on a really jumpy train 2hrs a day. Every day people ask how can I be so fast! This trackball is the best!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely the best trackball around Review: I was in tears when I first started using this mouse as it felt so right! I immediately went out and bought six of them (1 each for my laptops and desktops) and this is 5 years ago. My wife who had incipient carpal tunnel syndrome on her right wrist started using it at work causing an immediate improvement in her condition. I will say this about Logitech - they did something right with this terrific product.
Rating: Summary: An ergonomic godsend Review: I was starting to develop RSI in my hand and arm from mousing. I switched to the trackball and have been "tracking" for over three years with the same trackball with no problems. I have the original non-wheeled model and it has remained as smooth, accurate, and responsive as the day I took it out of the box. I use the wheeled version at home and I'm almost as pleased with it. The ball action is just as glassy smooth, but I'm not a fan of the wheel. It is rather clunky and its action is way too firm to use as a middle button. I find it difficult to click without accidentally scrolling. Otherwise, this is an exceptional product. As for gaming action, I attribute my status of Fragmeister to this trackball. There are few things more frustrating than running out of mouse pad in a firefight. This never happens with a trackball.
***UPDATE***
It's now been over seven years with the same, trusty trackball. I love this thing.

Rating: Summary: A solid product, but with some issues to consider Review: I've used Logitech TrackMan Marbles for several years- From before they added the scroll wheel to present. While I've been extremely pleased with the performance (It's my favorite pointing device ever), there are a few things you should be aware of before you try one: -They wear out relatively quickly. I typically need to replace mine every 6 to 12 months. -The casing ring around the Marble is too tight-- Turning it can be somewhat difficult at first. I either remove it entirely or cut away some of the plastic with a razor to make it faster. -Because of constant thumb contact with the marble, it tends to get sticky, and can become less accurate. -The shape is ergonomic and comfortable for regular applications, but the thumb must bend somewhat lower than is comfortable for gaming... I need to prop my wrist up a little for it to be comfortable. I have only used this line of trackballs so I cannot compare it to others; However, compared to traditional ball mice, it's a godsend. I plan on trying out one of the newer optical mice, but I plan on keeping a Marble around just in case. The product description is misleading-- You can play just as well, or better, using one of these than with a regular mouse. I am a respectably skilled online gamer, and I've never experienced any hinderance caused by my trackball. Gamers tend to shun trackballs, but that's because they haven't gotten the hang of it-- Using this will require some adjustment, but in the end, you'll do fine.
