Summary: Trackballs are great - this one, however, is NOT
Review: Bleck, bleck, bleck! Don't let this trackball sour you from the concept. Trackballs themselves are MUCH better and MUCH easier on your hands, wrists, and arms then regular mice, but this one is a real stinker.First off, it's FAR too heavy. The ball is mechanical, NOT optical, so it makes for slow, plodding, difficult motions. It's a chore to push your cursor across the screen and it really causes a lot of fatigue in your hands and fingers. Secondly, it's just not as comfortable as other, similar designed trackballs like the MUCH easier and OPTICAL Marble Mouse by Logitech. This one is just too wide in the base for me and the buttons were too far stretched apart. There wasn't any natural "drapping" of the hand on this design. Thirdly, it's WAY overpriced. For ten dollars less you can get an optical trackball which will give you a lot more percision with a lot less effort. For those who like this style, I highly recommend you opt for the Logitech Marble Mouse. At about $20, it's a much better value. I used one for about five years and noticed a GREAT reduction in wrist pain. For those wanting more options (such as scroll wheels and such), I would suggest the very well designed Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman. It's what I upgraded to after using the Marble Mouse for so many years. It does require a slight change in position of hand, but it stays away from those horridly uncomfortable thumb-wheel designs you see; you still use your fingers to roll the main ball around. Do yourself a favor and get a trackball. Just make sure it's an optical one instead of a mechanical one. You'll really be thankful you did and you'll notice improvement and relief from wrist/hand/arm pain.

Review: I can use it anywhere and not have to look for a desk. The motion is very smooth and the speed can be adjusted. For the price its hard to beat.

Review: I got tired of using the "conventional" mouse. The Kensington Combo Trackball is easy to use. I knew that I would not have any problems maneurvaring the trackball (and I don't!)

Summary: Pay more & get something better!
Review: I liked the idea of not rolling a mouse around my desk; particularly since i have a laptop and i don't like the track pad at all.
The Kensington Orbit was fantastic at first; up and running in seconds, easy to use and feels great in my hand.
However, after approx. 3 months use, I find that the left-right action gets stuck very easily and is very hard to start again. Getting the ball out to clean the rollers is easy, but actually cleaning those tiny little rollers is a nightmare, much harder than a normal mouse.
Plus, the rubber is so small it is deteriorating really quickly.
I discovered the roller itself gets stuck inside the casing and doesn't spring back as it should, so the roller is not touching the ball.
In conclusion: you get what you pay for: cheap and nasty!

Summary: kensington makes much better mouses..
Review: I was trying to replace my Kensington 'Expert Mouse" (trackball)with this much cheaper Kensington "Orbit" Trackball. I loved the older Expert mouse, but I wore out one of the buttons. The smaller ball (@1.25in vs @2.75in) and the hesitation of the movement made me return this ball. I will probably get another "Expert Mouse". I would like to find a optical trackball with a large trackball, but I am still looking.

Summary: Non Windows Track Ball
Review: I'm a Linux User, and I needed a better mouse then the supplied one (it was [not good]). I felt a track ball would be good, but I was skeptical of the software I needed (as Linux is quite picky about drivers) Not a problem, the Kensington did the job, One reboot, and I was done. I'm crusing through KDE with ease now. UPDATE: I've also been forced to use a new iMac at work now. And this same Kengington Track Ball works very well. Download the latest drivers to include a Scroll Wheel utility. Very Handy.

Summary: Orbit is a good choice
Review: I've been using the Model 64221 Orbit for over five years on a daily basis until the button failed. Clicking it once results in a double click about half the time. Cleaning it was never a big deal for me (takes less than a minute, once per month). Now I'm deciding between the old orbit and the new optical orbit. I think I'll stick with the old design based on my experience with it.

Summary: Great Trackball
Review: I've been using this trackball for over a year now and I love it! I went from the Logitech 3 button mouse to this trackball and it was a very smooth transition! It took no time to get used to moving the ball and clicking the buttons. I started using this trackball because my dr thought I had the beginnings of Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and I've read several articles that Trackballs are supposed to be more ergonomic for your hand. I don't know if it was the addition of the wrist pads or the use of this trackball, but I have had no problems with my hands since! There was only one downside to this unit. I have found that this Trackball gets dirty a lot more often than a normal mouse does. I've found myself having to clean it normally once a week. I believe it was probably due to the oils in the hand, etc.. Otherwise, I love it!

Summary: Excellent trackball! Never go back to a mouse again!
Review: I've been using this trackball for well over a year now and I have to say, next to my Microsoft contoured keyboard, it's the best "upgrade" I've made to my computer. It does take some getting used to and it does lack some features like the middle scrolling wheel and the like but I'm willing to give those up for the confort and ease of use of this mouse. Once you get used to it, this trackball just "feels" right under your hand and you have maximum control from just twitching your index and middle finger. I wouldn't suggest playing any video games with this but for common everyday use, you'll never go back to a standard mouse again. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is that, unfortunately, it's kind of a pain to clean. Because it's not an optical mouse, you need to, on occasion, pop the ball out and clean the rollers and the teeny little red beads that hold the ball in place.... If you have extremely dry hands, I guess it's not that big of a deal but cleaning the gunk out CAN be an excersize in a bit of frustration. Essentially, you'll get to the point where you'll never get it completely clean. Just clean enough.... But that complaint aside, this really is a great trackball, and though there's a holy war between the users of this type of trackball vs. the logitech type with the little ball on the thumb, in my opinion, after using both, this give you the maximum in control and confort for a really good price. If you're looking to get rid of that clunky mouse, at least give this one a chance. You just might like it.
