Rating: Summary: If you can operate a mouse, this is the best! Review: The reason for my heading is the negative reviews I have seen on this page. I have the Microsoft Explorer at work and the MouseMan Wheel Optical at home. Having to use both everyday, I can say that Logitech wins the battle easily.I find it amusing that one reviewer commented about how HE operates a mouse. Ergonomic designs are based on the assumption of a more or less average sized hand using it like most people do. I can't use my foot on it and expect Logitech, or Microsoft, to design it for that! I suggest that before you buy anything from Amazon, go to a computer store in your neighborhood and try out the different designs. Explorer has a very good design but Logitech designs suit my palm better. Some other superior features of Logitech ( in comparison to Explorer) are: o The optical device is much better that Microsoft for both faster and precise movements. o I do not like that fact that Explorer does not have any protection where the cord enters the mouse. It actually affects the performance when the mouse is a bit old and the cord is pulled while using. o The quality of the surface is also much better allowing for a better grip. o The software is pretty nice with features like WebWheel that allows you to access common internet function using your scoll wheel.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Mouse! Replacement for my Intellimouse Explorer! Review: Last December, when optical mouses first came out with the introduction of the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, I hopped in buying my first mouse, the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. I loved that mouse until one day 8 months later, the mouse starts acting up and eventually stops working. I called Microsoft, but they refused to replace that mouse since it only came with a 3 month warranty. Time to look for a new mouse. Well, I decided to go with a Logitech mouse this time. After all, I have never had problems with my previous Logitech mouse, and people always complain about Microsoft mice. I found the Logitech Mouseman Wheel Optical, and I fell in love with it! The mouse feels great on my average-sized hands. The buttons feel great and wheel works great. The positioning of all the buttons, also, is excellent! The optical part of the mouse itself is much better then the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. The mouse reacts much better to fast movements then the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. I play an average amount of games, and I have nothing to complain about optical technology. Only in the fastest, fastest, fastest movements, does the mouse not respond. Otherwise, the Logitech mouse responds excellently to fast movements. The design of the mouse itself is really nice. The dark-blue color looks really nice next to my beige-everything system. Also, the blue "Logitech" glow light on the top of the mouse isn't necessary, but adds the elegant effect to the mouse. I am very pleased with the Logitech software. Click down on the wheel, and the Wheel Menu pops up displaying useful actions that you can cycle through with the mouse. You can go back, reload, and stop a page, look at your favorites menu, or visit Logitech's new portal site. The side button also is great to function as a back button in a web browser. Plus, this mouse is on average ($) cheaper then the Intellimouse Explorer. It is built so much better and comes with a 5-year warranty! Now that's what I call quality! Get this mouse over the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. It works better, feels better, and costs less! :-)
Rating: Summary: Awesome mouse! Review: I purchased this mouse in June 2001, and it keeps on trucking. The most reliable mouse I have ever used. I am a heavy gamer so it went through a lot of utilization, but it's still responsive and solid.
Rating: Summary: in depth review Review: I bought the Mouseman optical after reading lots of reviews. I am very pleased with it. I have tested it in unreal tournament and it works very well except for a few scroll wheel issues which can be fixed with a patch. I am one of the flick gamers and I found no problems with the mouse other then the scroll wheel. The only time the optical camera failed me was when I move it as fast as I can to test it, but you must move it faster then you will ever need to. To achieve the speed to fool the camera you must move so fast you cannot use the mouse for any operation. The mouse shape is very comfortable and fits my hand very well, better then the explorer. Although I like the scroll wheel of the microsoft mice because they feel better I would still go with this mouse because it is better and easier to grip. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the scroll wheel. When scrolling in internet explorer I found there was a slight lag between I turned the wheel and when the page started scrolling and that the scroll was choppier then the MS mice
Rating: Summary: Too much to be of practical use. Review: The Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical is better than the Microsoft IntelliMouse and the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer in that its fourth button is positioned in a place which makes it hard for the user to click it by accident. The Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical is also of reasonable size unlike the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer which is just too big to be comfortable. Compared to the Logitech Wheelmouse Optical the Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical is heavy enough so that it doesn't tilt sideways when you don't have your hand on it making it a more steady mouse. Like most cordless mice the Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical does not take batteries and has a glowing red light on the bottom of it which is used to sense motion. However, this right handed Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical has the following disadvantages which is why I did not buy it: The blue Logitech label at the back warms up when you turn your computer on and so you have to keep your hand on something hot which I don't think is very nice. Like most optical mice if you move the mouse too fast in a straight line on any surface including opaque surfaces then the pointer goes crazy and bounces around across the screen loosing control. If you move the mouse slowly then the precision, despite hype, is not better than that of a good Logitech wheel mouse. Of course the advantage is that you don't have to clean the wheel. To obtain good results the optical mouse must still be used on a mouse pad which provides the right (needed) friction to move the pointer accurately. And altough you cannot use a regular ball mouse on upside down who really needs to? The wheel in this particular mouse should probably be a little bit more forward as it did not feel like it was in the right place and my hands are avarage size... not to mention that I find that wheels are in general quite useless and in the way. But I could not dind an optical mouse without a wheel. And finally no optical mouse is wireless so the cord can still get mangled and cause the pointer to move inaccurately after some use. On the other hand wireless mice require you to change the batteries probably once every month or so and thus cause more trouble than having to clean the wheel. In conclusion, if the optical mouse was the same price as or even cheaper than a (good) regular ball mouse I would still buy the ball mouse which despite all its trouble is here to stay!
Rating: Summary: The King Is Dead. Long Live The King! Review: When the original, non-optical MouseMan Wheel came out a few years back (it was green and white, as I recall), I remember thinking it looked really strange and cool--and seemed a little expensive. Then I tried it. Wow, what a mouse. These things have the best shapes of any mice I've ever worked with, bar none. The newer optical version listed here is basically the ultimate mouse, in my opinion. Scrolls very smoothly, has 4 programmable buttons (although I generally just use 3 of them, with the thumb button set to "Back" in my Internet browser), and generally just feels wonderful to use. For whatever reason, this very excellent mouse is no longer being produced by Logitech, which I really can't understand. I've never had one break, they seem reasonably popular, and the shape of the new MouseMan optical mice just doesn't cut it (even though I've got one of them, as well--couldn't find one of the above, and needed a mouse in a hurry, you know). I suspect that these mice will develop a cult following now that they have been discontinued. They are that good. Bottom line is that if you use a mouse on a daily basis and don't want to go fully carpal, you owe it to yourself to find one (or more) of these mice and use it.
Rating: Summary: Close to perfect Review: A mouse is a rather personal decision. People's tastes and requirements when it comes to mice (and keyboards) vary greatly upon what they do with their computer. I tend to be very hard on mice; The Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical is my third mouse in 12 months. Thus far I am very satsified with it. The Ups: great feel. My previous mouse was the MS Intellimouse Explorer (the grey one). In contrast, the MS mouse felt very cheap to me. The tactile response on the Logitech is much better (the buttons have a nicer 'click' feel). In fact, the thumb button on the MS mouse broke (stuck ON, of course) which lead me to try this one. How it illuminates was also a nice surprise. The Downs: Logitech makes a great piece of hardware, but I do not like their drivers as much as the MS mouse. The Logitech drivers do not work in all games the same way as the MS drivers do. Some games do not even register the wheel turning (very disappointing). Overall: Probably the best mouse out there for the cost (or regardless of cost, for that matter). I love the feel and would recommend this mouse over any other that I've used to this point.
Rating: Summary: Best Mouse Ever Review: I have had this mouse for over three years and I must say that it is the greatest peripheral device I have ever owned in my life! The blue color is amazing and the glowing light is uber-cool. It may look awkward in the picture, but it looks much more sleek in person and feels perfect in your hand. The side button is basically useless and soon forgotten, though it can be programed to do one of several tasks. The responsitivity is top notch - the advantage of this over a wireless mouse is that even the best Microsoft wireless will occasionally loose contact with the receiver and they require batteries, so if you don't absolutely need a wireless, get this corded one or check out the Logitech wirelesses.
Rating: Summary: Best mouse out there (if you can actually find one!)... Review: I have this mouse for my main home computer and love it. The fit of the mouse is the best I've felt compared to all the mice I've owned. It is a very ergonomic mouse and responds very well due to the optical mouse technology instead of outdated mouseball technology. The buttons really feel like they respond when you click them. I love using this mouse for my everyday web surfing, for gaming, and for work. It is not that expensive, either. I bought mine for only about $30, and it is worth every penny. The only problem is that this mouse is hard to find these days. You may have to resort to looking for it at online shops. You can try your luck at Best Buy, Circuit City and other big electronics stores, but it seems like they don't carry this one anymore since Logitech has a wireless MouseMan that has replaced it. :(
Rating: Summary: BEATS ALL MICROSOFT - HEAVY GAMER! Review: Wow...I got this mouse 2 Years ago (99' Christmas) and I havent been disappointed at all. I am a heavy PC user and I take my computer lots of places including LAN parties. It has never EVER cause any problems what so ever. I have seen many MICROSOFT mice break. For example my friend who does the same stuff as I, BROKE not just one but 2 MICROSOFT Intellimouse Opticals. I HIGHLY Recommend you buy this mouse you will not be disappointed. I still use it til this day.
