Summary: Cool mouse!
Review: I really like this mouse. The back/forward side buttons are really great for Internet browsing once you get used to them. Mouse has a good feel and the software install/performance has been flawless.

Summary: Great all-around mouse (Especially for Gaming!)
Review: The main reason I ordered this mouse is because of its 2 extra programmable buttons. These buttons really come in handy. They are located on the left and right hand sides of the mouse. There is an easy to use program that is on the CD that comes with the mouse, and it lets you control what functions these extra keys (Or what any of the mouse keys) do.

I currently have chosen to have these keys double as back and forward buttons in my web browser. This makes surfing much easier, as I don't have to move the mouse up to the top of the screen each time I want to go back or forward in the browser.

In addition, these extra buttons are essential for gaming! Since you can program what the buttons do as often as you'd like, you can change the settings around depending on what game you are playing. I like to use one of the extra buttons to reload my gun in shooting games. That is just one of the possibilities of it however.

Overall, the functionality of this mouse is excellent. It has worked perfectly ever since I got it. It is definitley worth the extra few dollars.

Summary: Makes my hand tingle...
Review: The extra buttons for paging back and forth are a nice touch, but the mouse itself is somewhat bulky and large, and after a few hours of use, my wrist starts to seize up (no one-handed typing jokes, please). I've had to scale down to a Logitech Optical Mouse instead.

Summary: Smooth and easy to use
Review: This is the first optical mouse I've used and I really like it. It is smooth, the arrow glides exactly to where you want it. I like the roller in the center that you can scroll the screen without using the scroll bar on the monitor. There's no need for a mousepad and no mouse ball to remove and clean out. Very low maintenance! The only thing I'd do to make this a better mouse is make it cordless!

Summary: great value
Review: Got a great deal in amazon.com. This optical mouse wasn't responding perfectly (jumpy) when I was using a glossy mouse pad that came with my computer. After changing the surface, the optical mouse works with great acuracy. Have no problems with the mouse since then.

Summary: Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical
Review: I bought this mouse a few weeks ago. Within a few days, the mouse was acting up: clicking randomly, periodically ceasing to function, and scrolling without my input. I called and complained to Microsoft, whose tech support insisted I must have "misused" the mouse and caused it to break. They refused to replace the mouse or even allow me to ship it back for repairs. Now, the mouse is getting very bad. It will close browser windows and attempt to scroll about once every two to three minutes. I recently trashed the Optical in favor of a comperable Logitech infrared mouse, which I have had no problems with, and like very much.

Summary: good mouse...bad buttons
Review: This mouse is a great mouse in all, but i had one big problem... the butons. Whenever you click on the mouse it feels as if the button will break down. It hasn't happened to me yet, but it might. It gives you this uncomforatable feeling that you dont want to push down on the button too hard or it will break. To all you computer freaks...if you like optical mouses this one is OK, but if you want a really good mouse then get a Logitech mouse, in my opinion those are the best. But then yet again...this is MY opinion.

Summary: Even for Leftys!
Review: As a lefty, mouses for us are few and far between. The mouse is great for people with larger hands such as myself, and the accuracy and convenience of optical mice is far superior to the infernal wheel/trackball setup. My right handed brethren have no problem using it as well; the mouse is for both. I never have to clean it, and the cursor never ever jumps or skips. It also has a cool red glow when you turn your computer on.The reason it doesn't get five is becuase the mouse reqires that you install Microsoft's intellimouse software. The program runs in your system tray and eats up a few megs of RAM while it sits there and does nothing. You can disable it, but good luck trying to get the 4th and 5th buttons to work. I still would but this mouse again however, it does its job excellently. Shame on Microsoft for requiring installation of worthless software however.

Summary: The best I've found
Review: Before buying this mouse, I used two Logitech optical mice -- one wireless, and one wired, 3-button -- and though they were both solidly constructed and comfortable, their tracking was poor. MS simply has better optics at the moment. This mouse is very comfortable AND built for left or right-handers.

I've gamed extensively and basically pushed the limits of its tracking and cannot complain about the "twitch" problem some have experienced with opticals where the mouse gets lost when moved too quickly. I am able to move the mouse too quickly to track, but only intentionally, and then only when I move it more than two inches in a flick of the wrist. My suggestion to those who have this problem with optical mice is to increase your mouse sensitivity, in-game or otherwise.

The two downsides to this mouse are the scroll wheel being poorly constructed and the side buttons being chincy. The scroll wheel is still working great for me after at least eight months of heavy use, but the wheel on my friend's mouse (same model) is very loose after a year and one half. It has lost its indexing 'notch' and tends to scroll when you don't intend to. As for the side buttons, they work fine in and out of games, browsers, photoshop, etc., however their response time is poor and they have a distinctive, cheap feeling. Let's just say that they are not the same quality as the main buttons (1 & 2).

The MS mouse driver POINT32.exe runs in the background and is necessary to use the sidebuttons. It also offers some sweet mouse options such as 'snap to', which snaps the cursor to the default button in new windows (this has probably saved me a solid week of time since I've owned the mouse; I recommend giving it a week to get used to), and 'vanish', which hides the pointer while typing to keep it from hiding text -- also handy. Of course, this background task takes up some system resources so if you're on Win9x/Me, kiss another 2 percent goodbye. Even so, as a resource-hungry power user, I find it worth the weight.

All in all, it offers the best tracking (thought likely the same as other MS mice) and is still my mouse of choice. I only recommend another MS mouse if you want a different shape or color (alienware.com).
