Summary: The 21st century mouse, which I'm using now
Review: It's been over a decade since the standard mouse saw any real change in design. Sure they found a way to place 40 million buttons on the face of it without any trouble, but it still had the same problem that has been plaguing mice for years and that has landed them in the trash after about 6 months...they get junked up from massive use. And on top of that, no one wants to clean them. So, as usual, the think tank at Microsoft worked it out for a while and came back with what I think is not only the most inovative mouse of its kind, but also the most stunning, precise, and comfortable mouse ever made.

The Intellieye, or optical eye, in the IntelliMouse Optical is the thing that makes this mouse so great. Using a small motion sensor camera in the base of the mouse, the mouse will respond even to the slightest touch and work just about on any surface. In addition, since there are no internal tracks or moving parts, there are no more cleaning jobs or sticky mice. It works perfectly every time.

Also, this mouse, unlike it's larger brother the Explorer, fits beautifully into your hand as if it was meant to be there and all the buttons are positioned in easy to use places. Also it is great for both righties and lefties since the side and top buttons can be programed for either type of user.

Besides all of that, the red glow it emmits from its base around the "eye" creates a very cool effect, no matter what kind of place setting the mouse is in, and especially in the dark. It is also made to connect with any type of PC (PS/2 input) or Mac (USB Adapter included) and is an all around great product.

Only one little gripe, if you happen to be one of those people with slightly bigger hands, you might want to go with the larger model simply because you won't bump into the side buttons as often. However, beware, It's big and clunky compared to this mouse. And in most cases, the IntelliMouse Optical will do just fine even without those two extra side buttons. . . This mouse is a must buy, even if you think you have the best mouse out, you ain't seen nothing until you've seen this mouse in action.

Revuman: I need a vacation, peace people!

Summary: It's here!
Review: I was at the Consumer Electonics Show in Las Vegas this past January & while at the Microsoft booth checking my e-mail, I discovered this great mouse. I immediately went looking for it but was unable to find it anywhere. It's finally here! Mr. Bezos send me one will you please! (Disclaimer: I live in Redmond, WA but am NOT a Microsoft employee; just a big fan of this great device).

Summary: Buy this before you buy anything at Amazon.com
Review: This mouse was by far the best and most useful product I have ever consumed at Amazon.com.If you have a computer, you NEED this mouse. It is really smooth and there is ABSOLUTELY NO skipping!I personally think that the design, color, and shape is futuristic and cool. The installation and setup is very simple and easy as well. The only possible problem might be that the mouse is a little too light for heavy mouse users. In that case, the Intellimouse, which is a little heavier, would be a good alternative. But I'm sure you'll easily get used to its weight. Either way you DEFINETLY need at least one of Microsoft's optical eye mouses, its awesome! A 10 star product.

Review: What a mouse......it's simplicity and ease of use is perfect. I couldn't stand having to clean the dirty mouse ball over and over again. The shape fits my small hand it looks plain cool and the scroll weel helps out alot. Only one thing bothers me.....does the tail light ever go out? and what do u do if it does?

Summary: What a mouse...You gotta try it.
Review: I picked up this mouse after my old mouse started getting a little stuck and irritating. The USB connection made setting it up a snap. The software is very easy and requires little to no interaction. The optical technology is amazing. THis should have been thought up earlier. The mouse moves smoothly across my desk and looks amazing(mine is silver). Don't hesitate about picking this up. You'll never go back to that dumb rubber ball again...period.

Summary: A splendid pointing device
Review: Easily the best mouse I've ever used. Great ergonomic design--not too big or small. Good button placement: I especially like how you can go back or forward among Web pages using the buttons on the side. And the scroll wheel is pretty smooth. A nice, long cord. And, finally, I can right-click on the Mac! A wonderful, affordable, adaptable product. Highly recommended.

Summary: A Great Mouse but Maybe Not for Gamers.
Review: This mouse looks and feels really nice. The buttons have a solid "click" feel to them and the wheel turns with confidence. The mouse fits nicely in your hand. The extra buttons on the side also are handy when surfing the web. It is well designed and aesthetically pleasing. Also great for all those lazy computer geeks who don't want to bother with cleaning the mouse. With all the quibbles about Microsoft's software, they make excellent top-quality hardware.

As with all other mice with the "optical technology" feature there are some problems. When you move your mouse really quickly, the pointer on the screen goes crazy. I guess the technology isn't yet advanced enough to read those quick jerky movements. This is sometimes bad if you are a gamer that plays "first-person shooter" games such as Quake or Unreal Tournament and use the mouse. You can be playing and want to make a quick turn and end up facing a wall. I personally do use this mouse to play games but I realize the risk.

Overall this mouse is wonderful. The software is great and it works with all the programs I have. I would recommend buying it for general use but would give it second thoughts for gaming purposes. I believe there will come a time when the "optical technology" will advance so that these problems will go away.

Summary: Great mouse
Review: I have used this mouse for about 3 years and it has served me well for everything, *except* games. This is one of the first generation optical mice, so the sensor doesn't take as many pictures/second as the newer mice. What does this mean? If you're playing fast games (FPS especially) and make a quick movement, the mouse will move in a random direction. Very bad scenario.

I've also gotten quite into Tiger Woods 2003, and this mouse is very bad for the game because:
- you need to have perfectly smooth motion to swing the club, since if you move it too fast the mouse moves another direction causing bad swings

and it's good because:
- it trains your hand to have perfectly smooth motion to swing the club, since if you move it too fast the mouse moves another direction causing bad swings

so when I get a next generation mouse my game should be unstoppable :)

Logitech's entry optical model (the most inexpensive, quality, but basic optical mice I've worked with) is much better and doesn't have this same problem, and you can move it as fast as you want without negative results.

In conclusion, the main points of this mouse are:
Pros:
- the side buttons and clickable wheel are convenient and programmable
- optical technology means no more cleaning the mouse ball
(then again, every optical mouse has this feature)
- good size, not too heavy like the Explorer (the next model up)

Cons:
- Games will cause much frustration
- Maybe not all will see this, but mine is rather cheaply build (made in China) and the right mouse button randomly to makes odd feedback when clicked

I suggest skipping this one and going a newer generation mouse with similar features.

Summary: great mouse
Review: Hello. This is great for surfing the internet, the buttons on each side enable one to go back to the previous window with the button on the left hand side of the mouse and the button on the right hand side of the mouse gets you forward again. I also use it to play games with and it works fine for that too. The red light is a bonus.
