Summary: So close!
Review: From a hardware standpoint, this is one great product. I had an old Kensington 4-button Thinking Mouse and while I loved that mouse, I was getting tired of the routine cleaning involved. With no ball to get the innards of the mouse dirty, the Intellimouse optical was a dream come true. For desktop use, its great, and when combined with a Ratpad, gaming is a top-notch experience. Microsoft's Intellipoint software falls short though. Kensington's software for their thinking mouse yielded many functions, allowing the "chording" of mouse buttons (when you hit 2 of the 4 buttons at the same time) to execute different tasks. If Microsoft decided to offer greater flexibility with their mouse through intelligent software like this, no force in the world would keep me from giving it 5 stars.

Review: This has to be one of the greatest innovations for the PC. I love this mouse and cringe at the though of going back to a weel mouse. This will be the standard very soon, so why not upgrade now, I know that your weel mouse is all dusty and not accurate anyway, toss it out the window and pick up your optical mouse!

Summary: FINALLY!!!!
Review: Forget the track ball. Forget your mouse gettng dirty and not being able to preform your computer tasks. This mouse works very well. Now I can concentrate on web developing instead of my mouse. :-)

Summary: Good overall but limited
Review: This product is good however I have had some problems with it.1) the wheel is very loose (physically) which makes it hard to use for detailed work as it tends to roll more than you want it to. 2) depending on the surface it drags actually more than my regular intellimouse. 3) If you pick it up slightly you lose your place. 4) It just doesn't "feel" as sensitive as my regular intellimouse. This may be the responsivness of the USB port but I don't think so. 5) When you move it very fast across the surface it loses its place and goes haywire causing the cursor to fly all over the screen ending up somewhere other than where you wanted it. (my regular intellimouse is much less sensitive to this problem.) I gave it three stars because: 1) I should never have to clean it 2) It comes with USB & PS/2 adaptor - this means I can use it in the USB socket of my notebook and plug a full size keyboard in at the same time. (Very Nice !) Overall only an OK product.

Summary: Good mouse, but ...
Review: I'm actually reviewing for the Intellimose with Intellieye (Optical). This mouse is from Microsoft and uses the same optical circuitry just as the Explorer mouse (difference is that this one is not as big and has only 2 bottons + 1 wheel). My impression is that if you are used to Microsoft mice in the past (wheely versions), you should like this one, as the size and the feels are just the same. However, as a reviewer below said, sometimes the arrow went haywire, i.e. the arrow quickly went moved around the screen. I suspected that the reason was because of the surface. I was using it on a woodened table, with very little gloss (they put little wax on it) on the surface. So, I placed a book with library-bound covers underneath, and this problem has never occurred for about 1-2 weeks now. I guess this might solve the problem. I guess this mouse still needs something underneath. If this is indeed true, the only thing that makes it better than the good ol' wheel mice is that I don't need to clean it up any more. This is why I give it 3, not 5 stars. As far as accuracy is concerned, I have seen wheel mice with comparable accuracy. So this is supposedly not an issue, unless you can really feel and need it. Another thing is, not related to opticality, that after long hours with this mouse, my palm usually felt fatique. I have been constantly using mice from Sun Workstations, and it feels radically different!!! I guess Microsoft mice are just a tad too big for my palm.

Summary: lasted 3 weeks
Review: I was very happy with my mouse for 3 weeks and then it began to act strange. The cursor would take off by itself or not move at all. I tried removing and reinstalling the software but it quit working at all. I even tried it on a different computer and it still would not work. I can't find anything in the Microsoft knowledge base or help about the problem.

Summary: Worth every penny!
Review: I was a little hesitant to purchase it at first because it is a tad bit expensive (at least for me it was). But I'm so glad that I decided to give it a try. It is worth every penny! I don't know how I ever managed without it. This mouse was also my first mouse with more than just two buttons. I absoutely love the wheel and both side buttons. They make browsing on the internet or just within a word processing program or Windows Explorer much easier and faster. I am also extremely hard on mice. I usually have to get a new one at least every six months. So to have one that eliminates the problem, (by using the laser instead of a trackball and other moving parts that get worn out easily), is fantastic. I'm not usually one to support Microsoft, but this mouse has been one of the best purchases I've made in a while. The only problem that I see with the product is that the supporting program isn't much. I would have liked to see the ability to program the buttons to do different things within different applications. (Example: Right mouse button within internet browsers to function as the forward button. And within my word processing program function as the save/save as button.) That would make it much better.

Summary: The Perfect Mouse...almost
Review: This was my first experience with the IntelliMouse technology (ie. the wheel) and I'm hooked. I work primarily with a CAD program, so I set the two extra buttons (brilliant idea, by the way!) to work in that aspect. I've found the perfect use for ALL five buttons. Now that I've had the chance to use this mouse, you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers, as the saying goes. The only problem that I've found is that it's NOT as accurate as touted. Maybe I'm not doing something correctly, but the pointer seems to "jump" from pixel to pixel. It's just not a smooth motion. It may not bother others, but to a Draftsman, it can be rather frustrating. Other than that, I couldn't be happier!

Summary: TECHNOLOGY IS A BEAUTIFUL THING
Review: Hey, I like this mouse. Aside from the fact that it will last longer than other mice because of it's "eye technology," it is also extremely comfortable. The forward and back buttons don't come in handy all that much (I just turn them off), but the wheel roll's smoother than any other I've had. Yes, the eye is very responsive (why wouldn't it be?), but the simplicity is the key here. With the crazy "new-fangled" mice, space-ball's, etc. companies are coming up with today, this serves as a plain and simple escape from the madness. I usually don't like Mocrosoft product's, but I would recommend this one to anyone.

Summary: The perfect mouse
Review: The IntelliMouse Optical is the perfect mouse. It never misses, and it works flawlessly on most surfaces. I have the IntelliMouse Optical and the IntelliMouse Explorer, and I actually prefer this one, the Optical. It has most of the features of the Explorer, but it is also a bit more compatible than the Explorer. You can use this mouse with non-Microsoft operating systems, such as Linux, BeOS, etc. I use automatic switchboxes from Cybex and Linksys, and I had problems with the Explorer not switching properly. The Intellimouse Optical does not exhibit the same incompatibilities with some switchboxes (check with your switchbox manufacturer to make sure). In addition to the usual left and right mouse-buttons, the Intellimouse Optical also includes two additional buttons, one on each side of the mouse. These buttons by default are mapped to move forward and back within your web browser, but you can remap them to provide other application functionality.
