Rating: Summary: Love the new look! Review: I've had the original Intellimouse Optical since 2000, and it was and still is the perfect mouse for me. Light and responsive, it breezes through tasks whenever I'm coding, editing images, or just plain browsing the internet. I've tried the Explorer Wireless, but its weight takes a lot of getting used to because of the two AA batteries within. Compare that to the featherweight lightfootedness of this mouse which practically reads your mind. The scroll wheel offers just enough resistance and never gets in the way.Now they have improved almost all those features with the Intellimouse Optical Special Edition mouse. The camera underneath is much more powerful than the original, and the beautiful glossy finish is a pleasure to look at and to hold. It could very well be the best mouse that Microsoft made so far for its value.

Rating: Summary: Didn't work Review: I've owned many mice by MS and Logitech, wired and wireless, and I keep coming back to this model. No batteries. Five buttons. Comfortable. Perfect performance. The Special Edition model has a nice glossy finish and feels much sturdier than the "original" 5-button MS optical mouse. I intend to run this one into the ground -- and I might just buy an extra one as a backup, as they are getting hard to find.

Rating: Summary: Didn't work Review: Taking it back today. Seemed like a communication problem between receiver and mouse. The driver installed and it was recognized but the mouse would not respond. Probably a defective unit.
Rating: Summary: A little slippery Review: This is my original review: At first, I was a little disappointed by the slick surface sheen, but gradually, I became quite used to the (very) slight texture. There are times when my fingers slip onto the side buttons, but it's rare enough not to be a problem. The darker colors, and in fact, the very same smooth luster, contribute to keeping-er-palm stains off the prevalently beige decor of computer equipment. The positive factors are enough for me to keep this "Special Edition" pointing device. Updated, 11/2002: I'm now more disappointed, as the metallic luster has rubbed off where your index figure normally lies (the opposite side of the thumb). I didn't realize it's simply paint, and it looks qute awful. stick with the regular Intellimouse Optical instead.
