Summary: Almost perfect.
Review: I just recently built a desk for my new computer only to find out the wires for most of my perhiperals (monitor, scanner, keyboard and mouse) were not long enough. I fixed the scanner problem (monitor looks like a lost cause), and decided to invest in a wireless keyboard and maybe a mouse.Well the Logitech caught my attention and purchased it. Setup was a breeze as it comes with USB and PS/2 connectors. Plugged everything in (using the PS/2 connectors to free up a USB port) and loaded the software. The directions are not clear but should be good for most people. The keyboard is quiet and has a nice feel to it. Directions don't tell you how to program all the buttons, and I'm still trying to figure out some of them. The mouse works good as long as you have a good surface to move it on. The pointer seems jumpy on a computer desk surface and even worse with the current mouse pad I have. I did mount the receiver underneath the desk away from everything so I can put the keyboard in my lap and type away.

Summary: Great keyboard
Review: This keyboard caught my attention mainly because of the color (my moniter was black but my keyboard was white) and of course the wireless components. It is awesome, the keyboard works great, though I am waiting for an update for the software (the media key does not support winamp version 2.8). The mouse works great. I found that it is jumpy if you use a mouse pad. On a regular desktop though it is fine. Also, both the keyboard and mouse work well outside of the suggested 6 foot range. Battery life is my only concern. I got a message on my computer saying the battery level in the mouse was "critical." This after only about a month and a half of normal use. However, I haven't changed the batteries yet and the mouse is still working fine. When the batteries do die, I will replace them with NiMH recharchables anyway. It's expensive, but well worth the price.

Summary: Great Idea, Poor Execution
Review: At first glance, this seems to be a great buy---Logitech proudly displays "Award Winner" next to it on their website, and you can usually find this combo for around 50-70 dollars. However, if you are a graphic artist or a gamer, look elsewhere. I am both, and the overall performance of the mouse forced me to return the product and keep using my factory ball mouse. The extra buttons on the keyboard are a nice addition but are placed in awkward positions so I doubt you'll be striking them from memory. The biggest complaint I had with the keyboard is that the number pad doesn't work with almost every game I tried. What's the point of having a keyboard with extra buttons when the standard buttons don't work? As far as the mouse, the pointer speed never seems to be right, and it is very jerky. This must be due to the RF aspect of it, because the optical sensor is 800 dpi. Try to draw a straight line in Photoshop---it will take you a couple tries before you get anything acceptable. Try playing a first person shooter and you'll be ready to throw the mouse out the window. Aiming with this mouse makes you think you are drunk- with the aimer waving all over the place, it is near impossible to make precision shots. Also, most games don't recognize the extra button or the scroll wheel on the mouse, so basically you end up with a half a mouse. Logitech's Mouseware seems to be the problem with the scrollwheel. Using the basic Windows drivers for the mouse, every program I tried recognized the scroll wheel. But without the Mouseware installed you lose a lot of extra functionality, like the extra button and the battery life status. All in all, if you don't play games or need precision movement, this is a great combo. But for the truly demanding, it just can't compete.

Summary: i would like to recommend this product
Review: however i have had a lot of problems with it. Firstly Installation is a breeze under xp. everything worked right off, including all the special "keys" on the keyboard. I was pleasantly suprised that the volume control just worked on every application i tried, including games. Then i noticed that the mouse tracking was very wonky. I have a wood grain desk. My old MS optical works fine on it, however the logitech optical does not. I tried quite a few mouse mats and all of them gave poor results. In the end i was forced to use a white sheet of paper to get the tracking right. Next came the hanging. I am an avid game fan and play warcraft 3 a lot. 9 out of 10 times, the mouse and kb would freeze under WC3. I tried the lastest logitech drivers, but no joy. Lastly the batteries. The claim is a couple of months of use out of them. My first set of batteries lasted 2 weeks in the mouse. I thought maybe the set in the box might be old so i got more batteries. I tend to go through a set of batteries every 5-7 days. The keyboard is still going strong after 4 months. I have had to give up on the logitech mouse and now just use the keyboard. But be warned, the software and drivers do not like another mouse plugged in ( i have my old MS USB optical ).
I have to tweek my machine every time i start it to get the logitech software not to conflict with the usb mouse drivers.

Summary: Good buy but watch out for battery life
Review: This cordless keyboard/mouse combo has a lot going for it, but is let down by the battery life of the mouse. GOOD:
- It's very stylish
- It has incredible range. The keyboard works from 2 or 3 metres away from the screen.
- The additional buttons are not gimmicky - they are actually very useful. The volume dial I can use to control music volume from my bed, for instance. The other buttons can be set up as short cuts to folders, programs or websites, and I like to use the scroll button to replace ALT-TAB. For people who like keyboard shortcuts, it's a real godsend. You can hit one button and have amazon.com up on your screen just like that. NEGATIVE:
- The battery life of the mouse. It's ridiculous. I find myself changing the batteries about once a month. Even worse is the fact that the optical light (red light under the mouse) will keep blinking even when the computer is off, sucking even more battery power. I have actually given my keyboard to my dad while I am travelling for half a year. I was planning to buy another one when I returned home, but what I think I'll do is wait and hope that Logitech releases a cordless keyboard/mouse combo with the MX700 mouse. That's a cordless optical mouse that has a recharging dock. From the reviews I've read, that solves the one weakness of this package. The mouse should always be fully charged. So if you need something now and can overlook the battery draining nature of the mouse, i'd say get this combo. If you can wait, see if the MX700 is going to be released in a keyboard/mouse combo. P.S. Battery life for the keyboard has not been a problem so far.

Summary: AWESOME!!
Review: So easy to use, flawless easy-to-install-and-setup software! NEVER any problems with the Logitech cordless connectivity. I've had previous problems with HP cordless devices and Microsoft cordless devices. The Logitech is just a winner all around. Had mine for 2 years now, and still going strong. Very comfortable to use, very few type-o's. NOW they have the Cordless MX Duo....same package, but the mouse is the brand new Logitech MX-700 RECHARGEABLE optical mouse (the receiver is also the mouse charger!!). Can't wait to upgrade!!! I'll never buy another brand of keyboard/mouse, nor will I ever go corded again! Works in all DOS, BIOS SETUP, and WINDOWS environments perfectly, with no add'l setup. Nice rotary-style volume control on keyboard, and media buttons for play/pause/stop/fwd/back (for use with Windows Media Player). Works just like a real CD player!! Plus shortcut keys to e-mail and favorite programs & websites. Who can resist!! You WON'T be disappointed.....

Summary: Excellent Buy
Review: I needed a replacement keyboard and was considering a cheap ordinary wired model when I stumbled on the Logitech Keyboard/Mouse combo. At the time it was still $$$ for the set, but I still think the price was worth it. The optical mouse works perfectly on any surface. The range from the receiver pod is supposed to be a few inches, but I can sit comfortably back in my chair and use both the keyboard and mouse (on my leg) from over three feet away! I'm still on my first set of batteries in the KB and second in the mouse after 6 months of use. I love the ease of installation and configuration. Anyone can configure this keyboard's shortcut buttons to the point that they should never have to get out of a reclined position in the office chair! Overall, I have to say that I have not had ANYTHING to complain about from Logitech, and this is just one more good product from them! On a suggestion, it would be nice to be able to turn off the LED on the mouse when you're finished, to save battery life. But it does dim, which helps.

Summary: Bugs in the software - Do Not Buy This Product
Review: Well once again I got suckered into buying a very good piece of hardware that has very bad software support. I think Logitech make outstanding products but they refuse to accept the responsibility for supporting the product after they get your money. If you buy this Keyboard/Mouse system you may find it annoying to have a message pop up every 5 minutes saying "device connected on channel 2" You will not be able to type another keystroke until you click the "OK" button. I went to the Logitech's website, read the help, read the forums, installed the lastest drivers & software. None of it worked. But the bummer part is that they do not even answer your email request for help. They SUCK ! I have solved the problem by removing all the software that came with the unit as well as the updated software from the Logitech website. I then installed the default driver from Microsoft. The bad part of this solution is that the Logitech software is what allows all of those nice little buttons on the keyboard to work. Without there software, I have a generic cordless Keyboard/Mouse. I could have saved $30 and bought any number of just as good units from other vendors. I think my next Keyboard/Mouse system will be from Microsoft. They already have the drivers maybe they can get their buttons to work. So in conclusion; Logitech SUCK when it comes to supporting there product. Do NOT Buy This Product

Summary: device connected on channel Window Problem
Review: Worked great for a while then the "device connected on channel" window started appearing all the time. The focus goes to it, which interfers with your activity on your PC. (Must press OK on window or click on title bar of window your working on. Whatever you were typing is lost.) Have tried all the suggestions from Logitech such as moving things around, but no luck. Changed batteries, etc. Will not purchase any Logitech products in future, because Logitech is not addressing the problem. If they would not display the device connected on channel window, would not be should an annoyance. Looks like something left over from their debugging their software.

Summary: Great Product
Review: The Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical is an awesome keyboard/mouse combo. I've had mine for years and it has yet to fail me once. Sometimes it loses its wireless connection or it doesn't detect right, but I think thats just something you have to deal with in the earlier stages of wireless desktop computing. The mouse is very comfortable and the keyboard lets me type for hours with minimal discomfort.
