Summary: Water, food, air, and the vertical mouse.
Review:
Not only is this the most comfortable mouse ever made, the back and foward buttons are worth the 50 bucks in itself. I pity those who have to move their pointers all the way across the screen just to go back or foward. This mouse is an absolute necessity.

Summary: Just brilliant
Review: After I used this mouse for a couple of days, it became inconceivable to me how people could go on using conventional mice, with all the pain and stress on the hands and arms. All my pain is gone, and I spend a *lot* of time on the computer. Whenever I have to use a "normal" mouse now it feels just plain weird. Actually, the VerticalMouse is what feels normal to me now.

It does take a day or two to get used to, and clicking requires more pressure than an ordinary mouse. But once you're used to it, it's not a problem at all.

I have the wheel button programmed so that pressing it is the equivalent of a double-click. No more actual double-clicking -- I love it!

One thing I don't miss: having to clean my old (mechanical) mouse periodically, and the way the old mouse often was unable to roll smoothly because there was dust in the mechanism. Goodbye forever.

Summary: Great pain reliever
Review: After only a short period of time using this mouse, the pain in my wrists is a fraction of what it was. I spend a considerable amount of time on the PC, and the pain was quite unbearable. I can now alternate between a regular mouse and the Evoluent (home and work), with very little discomfort. I;m sorry I didn't try it sooner.

Summary: The Last Mouse
Review: Buy this mouse. Your search is over and you can move on to other things in your life.

Sure, it's a little big. And it looks different. But once you take that leap of faith (not really, you see all the excellent reviews), or maybe buy yourself a gift for your birthday or for Christmas or Hannukah, or Kwanzaa, you'll be thrilled to know later you're not actually spending more money. Not only will you not have to buy yet another mouse for the nth time, your wrists will feel much, much better.

My wrist was strained for making too many unsuccessful kayak rolls, and it looks like it may never feel better. But after I start using this mouse, and it's been six months since, the wrist pain is gone and I feel confident I can go back attempting my kayak rolls. Just using any other mouse actually hinders my wrist from healing.

Summary: Software problem
Review: Have had a software problem with this product. Unable to install properly on XP Pro. Have contacted Microsoft and tried to resolve it thru the web and email on thier "Compass Rule Manager".
They have a updated software download which they referred me, but it does not fix the problem. They have also given me some vague "General Instructions" that really do not apply to my program and can be obtained thru their knowledge base.

I have found a great "work around", take the product back to the retailer and get a mouse that works properly. Definitely not a Microsoft mouse.

Summary: Duh, why didn't someone think of this sooner?
Review: I am ordering my second vertical mouse. I am at a computer @ 10 hours a day and have suffered for years from twisted arm syndrome. This is such an obvious solution. It takes little adjusting to and it feels so much better. Try it - you'll like it.

Summary: Good alternative to regular mouse
Review: I bought the vertical mouse after reading a positive review about it. I have repetitive stress injury in my wrist, so any device to minimize this is a boon. The vertical mouse does help keep my wrist in a different position than usual, which is nice. And the optical sensor ensures smooth scrolling without worrying about dust bunnies or stuck rollers.

There were some initial problems with the Evoluent driver which caused the mouse to freeze when I used one of the alternate buttons. This caused me to shelve the mouse for a while. However, not too long ago I saw an updated driver on the Evoluent website. This newer driver seems to have solved whatever problem plagued the first one. The only other complaint is that the rubber pad on the thumb side seems to be peeling off slightly. I guess I can superglue it back on if it comes off.

Gyration makes a wireless mouse which you can wave in the air. Alternating between the vertical mouse, the Gyration mouse, and a trackball mouse helps a lot ergonomically.

Summary: Mouse is good but there are problems
Review: I bought this mouse about 2 months ago. It seemed to work fine but after a month and a half my wrist started hurting regularly so I switched back to my trackball. My wrist is fine now. Its very handy with the multiple programmable buttons but the ergonomic part if it doesnt work for me.

Summary: Others don't compare!
Review: I create detailed drawings and use a mouse for long periods of time. For the last year I've had almost constant pain in the top of my hand and in my wrist area. I tried pads, gloves, ACE bandages and pills. Finally I realized the pain was caused by holding my index/ring finger on my right hand poised over the right mouse button that was causing the pain. A trackball won't allow the precision dragging lines and symbols because I tried a really nice optical one. This Evoluent vertical mouse solved the problem and I am now pain free. YES !! Too bad I paid +$150 to doctors and other products.
