Summary: Wonderful feel - great keyboard
Review: This is a fantastic product. I use it with my Palm VII. I am a touch typist and as such am somewhat fussy about the layout - what is truly amazing about this keyboard is that it folds up to the size of a Handspring Prism. It is perfect for taking with your Palm on a long trip to use for a travel diary, for example. My only complaint is that the thing is so compact that on one occasion I grabbed it thinking it was itself the PDA and not just the keyboard!

Summary: I use it every day
Review: I bought my Palm last year, and I loved it from the beginning. However, I wanted to do more with my Palm. I wanted to write on it, but I didn't want to become the fastest Graffiti writer in the process. The Palm V Keyboard became my only solution.

When I first started using this keyboard, the co-workers jaws would drop when I unfolded it. You don't know how cool it is for some guy to take out this thing that's about the size of a Palm III then unfold it to become a full-size keyboard. People just like to see me unfold it. It was like a magic trick to them. Of course, this feeling wears off, but in the beginning, it's great to see their reactions.

I love the fact that this keyboard is roughly the same size as a run-of-the-mill laptop computer. I used to own a Sharp Organizer with one of those tiny keyboards. It was a pain to use. This keyboard acts like a full size keyboard. There were other options out there for Palm users such as myself, but a huge selling point for me was the full size aspect.

There is a minor, yet manageable drawback with this product. You can't rest this item on your lap without it fuling and contorting. You either have to lay it down on a hard surface, or you have to put a hard object on your lap and rest the keyboard on the object. Granted, I've found a way to bypass the lap issue with a thin, hardcover book when I want to lie on the couch and type, but this issue should be addressed since people might night have a handy book lying around.

I love this product. Since I type on it everyday, I need this product. If you can get by on Graffiti and the Palm Desktop, you don't need this product. However, if you're away from the computer, and you have a long memo to type out, get this product now!

Summary: worth spending a little folding money for this keyboard
Review: Yep I tried this keyboard and it is really indispensable. It is lightweight and unobtrusive. I do not know about the long-term durability but the one I used has lasted a couple of months now. I glossed over previous reviews, then found that the statement about the flat surface is correct. This animal needs a flat surface to work. First couple of times using it I needed to figure out how to lock the panels in place and also to hold the pilot up. Now it is second nature. The little raised "F" and "J" characters help you keep aligned.

And to the earlier reviewers it easily accommodates my typing speed (20-40+ WPM, accurately). So I can not keep up. At least I do not have to look for a plug.

Summary: Outstanding product, terrible support
Review: Along with a carrying case and WriteRights, this is the other must-have accessory for the Palm III series! My only complaint is Palm support... I received an unexpected reset immediately after installing the keyboard driver, and the people answering the support e-mail at Palm were clueless. I sent them a detailed question asking if resets are to be expected with this product immediately after a hotsync, and all I repeated got back were canned responses that had nothing to do with my question.

Palm, hire some real support people if you want to keep customers!

Summary: The ultimate Dilbert-esque power accessory
Review: I love my battered old Palm III (with no suffixes!). With PocketMirror's latest synch program on my PC, I have no trouble synching with Outlook 2000. To be sure, I'm almost out of memory, but I muddle by. There is only one fly in my Palm ointment - I have never mastered Graffiti. After years of using the Palm III, I'm still barely at 90%+ accuracy. Consequently, I was an early adopter of the Palm keyboard. One of the great moments was a conference I attended at which everybody around me was using lap tops. I zipped out my Palm keyboard, whipped it open, snapped on my Palm and was the envy of everyone in sight. Palm probably owes me hundreds of dollars in finders fees for that one event.

The Palm keyboard is really a remarkable device. It folds down to next to nothing - smaller than a paperback novel. It slips easily into a jacket pocket. Yet, it unfolds into a near full-size keyboard with remarkably accurate and 'life-like" action. It is actually easier to type on the Palm keyboard than on my Dell laptop. Taking notes or entering multiple contact data, let alone writing e-mails of any length, is now a breeze.

Why did I subtract one star? First, several friends who bought the Palm keyboard have had hardware and/or software problems. One has had to return the keyboard 3 times. I have had NO dififculties, but your mileage may vary. Second, the keyboard cannot be used on your laptop. Unless you have it on a hard surface, it tends to sag in the middle. Third, I had to fiddle with the settings a long time to get the keyboard delay right. Those quibbles aside, however, I highly recommend it to any power Palm user.

Summary: Great product - but buggy spacebar and crappy support
Review: When I received the box, I was expecting a larger thing. But although the folded keyboard can almost fit in the pocket, once it's unfolded, you have a regular size keyboard! The felling is like when you're using a laptop keyboard.

So why not 5 stars? Well, for a few things. The most annoying one is the spacebar which does not always work. Also, some keystrokes indicated in the doc do not work. Which brought me to experience Palm's crappy support. I don't know about the Palm V, but when you ask questions about the keyboard, it seems that all they can say is "reinstall the drivers" and have never tried the product.

But I don't regret the expense. It allows to type in text way quicker than with graffiti.

Summary: Life is Good
Review: I've been using this keyboard for three weeks now--what a wonder! The keyboard software allows for adjustment to the user's speed and dexterity, and I find that there is no problem in typing at my normal moderately rapid and accurate rate. Now I'm composing letters, writing memos, creating documents wherever I find a level surface to type. My only question is this: Why didn't it occur to Palm to allow for HotSync and modem operation with the keyboard? Surely a port for this wouldn't have been too difficult to add. I'm not complaining, though; this little device is a godsend. Buy it.

Summary: Terrific!
Review: I work for a mental health agency and I have to type minutes of meetings up to twice a day. My old laptop finally fizzled out, so I decided to get a Palm Vx with a Palm keyboard. The keyboard is EXCELLENT, and it easily accomodates my typing speed (120-140+ WPM, accurately) while I'm at meetings. I highly recommend this keyboard (and the Palm itself) if you just want to take notes and don't want all the bells and whistles of an expensive laptop.

Summary: Must have for power users
Review: This is the one Palm accessory that you must have if using your Palm for more than just addresses and appointments. The keyboard folds down to just about the same size as a Palm III and when fully expanded, is easier to use than most laptop keyboards. It will take a small amount of time to get used to the key configuration (the Delete key is in a weird place, as is tilde and backtick) and to learn key combinations for special characters, but your level of productivity should skyrocket after this very brief learning curve.

Your Palm will almost be able to replace your laptop (it has mine). I can now take notes on the road, send and check e-mail, and track expenses.

Summary: An Engineering Masterpiece
Review: This is one of those products that, when you receive it, you are amazed at how much your expectations have been exceeded. There's nothing that could have prepared me for how sleek this thing looks. No bigger than a Palm III or Palm VII when all folded up, and then, when expanded, the size of a full keyboard! This is likely to make people stare at you while on the train or subway, just while you are taking it out and unfolding it, never mind when you actually have your Palm Pilot docked on it.

I don't need to go on about how well it works or how practical it is, because anyone knows that a full-size keyboard is going to go a long way... no matter how proficient you are in graffiti. I am a fairly fast graffiti-ist, but that doesn't compare to the efficiency of a keyboard. Actually, I had no intention of buying a Palm Pilot without this accompaniment. I had much graffiti practice on my friends' Palm Pilots, so I knew that I could get used to it, but I knew I was going to need the keyboard when I bought my Palm Vx. So I bought them together, and I'm all the happier for it.

I do agree with one reviewer's comment about the fact that the middle part does not 'lock' into place, so you need to put it on something flat, rather than your lap. Sort of defeats the convenience factor, n'est-ce pas? But even with that flaw, I will always be happy with this purchase. Excellent product.
