Summary: Microsoft Intellemouse Optical
Review: I have had the Old Style Mouse with the Ball on the bottom, and was never happy with them. Fortunatly for me the Old Mouse wore out, and I bought the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, and it is one of the "BEST Purchases" that I have ever made. It is very smooth, no jumping around, and I love the four click Buttons. I use it right on my Computer Desk, and would Highky recommend this Mouse to anyone that wants the Best Mouse there is !!

Summary: Intellimouse
Review: I really love this mouse. The old track ball type are obsolite in my opinion. The intellimouse is smooth and fast. All the buttons can be programed to your liking. When I play games like Medal of Honor the difference between a normal mouse is huge. Best mouse I've ever used.

Summary: Unreliable tracking on many desk surfaces
Review: I have owned two Intellimouse Optical mice: one at my office (seven months) and one on my home system (eight months). This mouse was advertised as being highly reliable on many different surfaces without a mouse pad. Unfortunately, neither unit has lived up to its advertisements.

The biggest problem for me is that both of my Intellimouse Optical mice are HIGHLY sensitive to the surface they are placed upon. When the mouse is moved, the cursor will often appear to "skip" or "stutter" when the mouse is used on a wide variety of surfaces. Evidently, certain surfaces confuse the mouse's laser and cause it to mis-track, or send data which cause its onboard microprocessor to miscalculate the motion of the mouse.

Unfortunately for me, surfaces that cause this irritating behavior include unfinished pine, painted pine, varnished oak, and laminate countertop. I.e., all of the surfaces I have used as workspace in the past year. I even went so far as to paint a misbehaving surface in order to try to rectify matters, but the problems continue.

The only way I have found to avoid skipping and mistracking is by using a mousepad, a sheet of paper, or other such material with a flat, matte surface. Precisely what I was hoping to avoid in the first place. All in all, I wish that I had stayed with the "old fashioned" ball mice.

Summary: Awesome mouse!!
Review: I bought the Intellimouse Optical to replace my older Intellimouse 3.0. I picked this mouse because i wanted a pointing device with excellent movement and responsiveness. The two side buttons are great for people who want to perform certain tasks like the run command or maximizing and minimizing windows. The mouse moves flawlessly. It doesn't studder the least bit. I have mine hooked up via PS/2 port due to the lack of USB ports, so i can only guess the mouse would get better with the USB connection. I strongly suggest this mouse for anyone who likes Microsoft's line of Intellimouses, this has to be one of the best mouses that Microsoft produces, and one of the best in thw world.

Summary: Hard to Install
Review: Install required registry edit to clear out old intellimouse keys. Had to search MS Knowledge Base to get information. Once installed it works perfectly.

Summary: Never buy another mouse
Review: Sure, I started off just like everybody else, with the mouse that came with my computer. After a month or so, it started jumping and was far less responsive. A little more time and it was almost unmanageable. This was probably not helped much by the fact that jitters always seemed to happen when I was dragging something important, and when I lost it, the mouse was often the target of my frustration.

Eventually I switched to a Logitech trackball that was supposed to eliminate the need for cleaning and replacement by using a fancy dotted ball, and a small optical sensor internally that interpreted the dots into movement. The concept was that since the only moving part was the ball itself, that it would never go jittery on you. Unfortunately, the rubber seal that holds the ball in place still collected dust, dirt, and oils from my fingers, and after a while its responsiveness was no better.

Then I made the move to the Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical, and I've never looked back.

The IntelliMouse, even though Microsoft makes it, is a fantastic replacement for my PC mouse, my Mac mouse, and my laptop mouse, all through the simple plug-and-play ability of the USB connector. If you have to go PS/2, there's also an included adapter so you're never without a mouse regardless of the system you are working on.

The IntelliMouse Optical is extremely accurate, and of course its responsiveness can be adjusted with the included software. As a road warrior, I never know what surface I'll be presenting on. I could be lucky enough to have a table one time, while yet another I may find myself using the seat of a chair. I've even used the IntelliMouse Optical on my leg while standing up, and it never skips a beat. Keep in mind though that the IntelliMouse Optical uses a red-colored optical sensor to detect movement, and does so by capturing images of what's underneath it. This means that certain smooth, colorless materials will render your mouse useless. For example, a pad of white or yellow paper fools the red sensor. Also, materials like a smooth red cloth. Don't ask me how I found this out - just putting it through its paces.

The five programmable buttons on the mouse make for perfect surfing. For example, I can click on a link using the left mouse button, scroll through the page using the scrolling wheel, go back to reference what I was just looking at using the left side button, and move forward again to complete what I was doing by using the right side button, only to decide that I want to save the page to my disk which I can do with a click on the right button. The scroll wheel is also another button, which I have programmed to "scroll lock" in my browser, Word, etc.

I've also found this mouse to be extremely durable. I pack it in my computer bag several times a day as I hop from appointment to appointment. It gets thrown into strange car trunks with other bags, it get crammed into overhead bins, and on occasion it even gets dropped. And yet, it functions flawlessly. The IntelliMouse Optical is quite possibly the perfect mouse, and will never be the target of my frustrations.

Summary: Dagg Yo!
Review: This mouse has no doubt been the best optical mouse that I have come to use. At work I use the IBM optical navigator, and that mouse is no comparison to this MS mouse. The scroll on the MS mouse is a dream, unlike the IBM which laggs, and you can use both a USB interface or PS/2. The way that the forward and backward buttons are placed is perfect, your thumb nor your pinky ever hits them. And if your a gamer and your mouse laggs during gameplay, then hurry to get this mouse. Quake 3 runs like a dream with this mouse.

Summary: A Review by a Mouse Fanantic.
Review: Improved Product. I bought the first Intellimouse Explorer about a year ago - and returned it after 2 weeks when I started developing wrist pains and experiencing inaccuracies with the optical sensor. This version is definately an improvement. Microsoft has tweaked their optical sensor, and it works flawlessly on the desktop - although I have yet to test it out on games.

The Optical sensor gives a smoother feel to your mouse movements and saves the cleaning hassels.

My main gripe is that Microsoft has made this mouse is too light - and for bigger hands, it feels small...but at this price point, you can't beat the quality and accuracy that Microsoft delivers.

Summary: If you need a optical mouse get this one.
Review: This mouse is amazing. I am left handed and I find this mouse very comfortable to use. The mouse is very precise and never "skips" like other optical mice. The mouse is very lightweight and the buttons make a nice click sound when they are pressed. The scroll wheel also has a textured surface so it provides an excellent grip. All the buttons on the mouse are fully programmable and this feature is really nice. The mouse plugs into your USB port but the box includes an adaptor to plug it into your PS/2 port. I plug the mouse into my USB port built into my Microsoft keyboard and it helps clear up the wire mess behind my desk. The mouse also has a really great coolness factor with the red "taillight" on it. Buy this mouse and you wont regret it.

Summary: My fav...
Review: My favorite mouse to date. Works on any surface so I don't need a mouse pad cluttering my desktop space. Great buttons and easy to program the buttons for what you want them to do. So accurate too, the optical is the only way to go. Goodbye to track balls. The cool light is neat. :) USB connected is great. I have plugged into my keyboard which has 2 USB ports on it. Very handy indeed, no wire stretching all the way to my pc on the floor. Scroll button works great. Hands down a great product. :)
