Summary: An excellent mouse!
Review: After three and a half years of loyal service, my Compaq standard mouse finally decided to give out on me last weekend. I knew that I needed a new mouse soon, so I researched a few different brands and decided on the Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical. Although it was a bit expensive, it is worth the money so far. The installation was very easy using the ps/2 port and it has been working like a charm. I love the fact that the optical light works right on my cheap artificial oak computer desk. Goodbye, mousepad! I am also very fond of the scroll wheel, which is an invaluable tool when surfing the Internet, reading e-mails, and working in a word processor. I will never go back to using those tedious scroll buttons! The mouse fits my large hand perfectly. I would suspect that those with small hands might have trouble, but since I don't have small hands, I can't evaluate that. And I can't forget the red light in back! It's slightly tacky for a mouse, but I love itnonetheless. There are a few caveats, though, that might bother some people. First of all, the mouse comes in only one color -- off-white. Secondly, the online registration process is broken -- I have spoken to a Microsoft technician and you will have to call Microsoft to register your mouse until they can update the software that comes with it. But since these caveats do not bother me, I wanted to say once again that I love everything about this mouse and I certainly recommend it to everyone that needs a new mouse. The five year warranty is definitely the clincher -- you will not pay any more money for a new mouse within five years -- that's Microsoft's guarantee. What is there to lose? Go ahead and buy the IntelliMouse Optical!

Summary: Read this if you're a hardcore FPS gamer.
Review: I've been playing FPS games since Quake 1. I've played someo of the best FPS's out there, single player and multiplayer, currently playing Quake3, Unreal Tournement and Counter Strike(my fav). I've played all of these 3 games with a ball mouse and this Optical mouse. After comparing and playing with them back and forth, I found the new optical mouse was better even though I wasn't used to it. This is because it's very sensitive and accurate. I never found any problems when I turn too fast and the pointer won't respond, it worked every time. As a FPS player for over 5 years, I recommand this to you.

Summary: Excellent mouse.
Review: This is a nice mouse. I orginally bought it to replace the mouse which came with my computer. It works on all surfaces, and I love the buttons, they feel right, and work well. This mouse is also remarkably durable, as a college student, my mouse has been subjected to several moves, some rough handling, desk clutter, and Ive accidentally dropped it off the edge of my computer desk more times than i can count, yet nothing has hurt it.

Review: This is a must have. I was debating whether or not to spend the money on it, I'm glad I did. It works great in games and in normal window functions. The cool red light is a nice touch. You should deffinately go out and get it.

Review: This mouse has all the best features (i.e. side buttons, scroll wheel, and ball-less tracking. Plus it can be comfortably used with the left hand. I spent a lot of time searching for an ergonomic left handed mouse, and feel like it got the best one in the InteliMouse Optical.

Review: This was my first optical mouse, and I LOVE IT! That smooth gliding, "new" feel that a mechanical mouse only retains for a week, goes on indefinitely with this mouse. Comfortable, and easy to install, I recommend this product without any reservations.

Summary: Throw your mouse ball away
Review: This is without a doubt one of the best and most innovative products I have owned in a while. Most would look at the price tag and immediately choose an old fashioned cheap mouse with a ball inside. One thing to keep in mind is that the mouse is one of the most important devices you use, except for perhaps the keyboard. Anybody who has a computer knows that after a few months or even weeks, traditional mice begin to stick when you try to scroll. This is because lint and dust build up on the inside and prevent the ball from rolling smoothly. With the optical mouse, there is not ball. As a matter of fact, there are no moving parts to get clogged up. In addition, this mouse includes 2 buttons on the sides, which are customizable. I use them for going forward and back on the internet. A scroll wheel is also included, allowing you to easily and conveniently go up and down in documents and on the internet just by spinning it. Any computer user will appreciate the precision of the mouse, and the fact that it does not require any cleaning or maintenance. Gamers especially will appreciate the precision, although it may take a little getting used to because even when the mouse is less than an inch above a surface, it can still function. Once you get the hang of using it, you will never want to use a traditional mouse again. Throw away your ball mouse. It is time to see the light.

Summary: Comparing IntelliMouse Optical and Intellimouse Explorer
Review: A week or two ago, I bought this Intellimouse Optical to replace the Intellimouse Explorer that died on me. After leaving a lengthy review of Intellimouse Explorer, I decided it should be best to compare problems and solutions between Intellimouse Optical (more inexpensive) and Intellimouse Explorer (more expensive) so you can see what problems have been solved and what problems have been created with this new version (Optical). Pros and Cons of the Explorer... and if they remain in the Optical: -Con in the Explorer: Too big. FIXED in the Optical: The Optical is much smaller, but switching from the slightly larger Explorer take a few days to get used to. -Pro in the Explorer: Good color hid dirt well. CON in the Optical: The new model is beige... so heavy users have to replace it more often. -Con in the Explorer: Buttons were thin and seemed flimsy until you got used to them. FIXED in the Optical: Buttons aren't so thin and wobbly. -CON in the Explorer: The connection of the mouse cord to the mouse itself was weak, since a very slight tug with the mouse while the cord wasn't giving enough lee-way caused my mouse to die (the cord came out of the mouse about a millimeter or two). CON in the OPTICAL: This issue remains the same. Be careful. In the Optical, the two extra buttons are located on either side of the mouse... compared to the Explorer where both were on the left side of the mouse. Also, the scrolling wheel on the Optical is *much* more bumpy and louder. I prefered the scrolling wheel on the Explorer. Overall: Both mice are great. It all boils down to personal preference. I suggest looking at your workspace and deciding whether a bigger or larger mouse suits your hand and your wrist better. If you are left handed, DEFINATELY go with the cheaper Optical since the Explorer was tailored for right-handed users.

Summary: Fairly cheap, efficient light mouse.
Review: My hands are not that big. I've used the MS explorer which was huge for me. But this mouse is just the right size. It's size is just like a normal mouse. Tracking is near perfect I don't need to clean it often and it has the two side buttons which are indispensable when internet surfing. After this mouse I can't stand using any other mice that don't have the buttons. It has now become a reflex. Being able to change it to ps2/usb whenever is darn useful. If you are irritated with dust collecting on mice this is a product you should look into. Frag happy people should give it some thought though. IF moved very quickly the pointer dances. and average gamer will have no problem but If you are playing quake with that rocket jump and are quickly going to rail someone midair. it might dance.

Summary: A good, high quality mouse
Review: I just received the mouse a few days ago. At first when I installed it, I didn't like it, but it grew on me. It took an hour or two to get used to the optical mouse compared my previous one (a Logitech Mouseman 3-button, the one that fits your whole hand) and being a guy with big hands it wasn't easy. Now there is no problem at all! I trained myself in a few hours to get used to the new configuration and to use it well. I do find that it tracks differently from a mouse ball, it's more accurate and less sloppy. The precision is fantastic! Once you install the software that comes with it, and I highly recommend you do, it's just a matter adjusting the settings to your personal favorite. Then you'll faster with your mouse than you ever thought! I highly recommend this mouse for anyone who needs a new mouse. It is too expensive to just buy outright though. Wait until your mouse breaks or the price comes down another 5-10 dollars.
