Summary: Hey, I LOVE this thing!
Review: I just got this little mouse and it's awesome! It was recommended as the number one choice of the amazon editor, and that always helps, of course. :-) I was having such problems with my computer taking so long for anything to open or load, and my girlfriend suggested it might be my mouse. Everything is totally different now! I had it shipped from California, too, and it came so fast...all the way across the country! You don't have to do that, though...amazon will point you to a store where you can pick it up, if you want. I'm thrilled with it!

Summary: Needs newer software
Review: The mouse works flawless once it's installed. However, the software shipped with the mouse does NOT support Windows Me or XP. I can't imagine why MS doesn't include it with their mouse. I had to download the updated IntelliPoint software from Microsoft's web site in order to install it on Windows Me. Once that was accomplished things worked fine.

I replaced an older Microsoft wheel mouse with this one. There is a difference in shape of the two and I actually prefer the shape of the older mouse. The optical mouse is a little longer and doesn't fit my hand quite as well. Also, you have to be a little careful and not accidentally push one of the side buttons or you will jump to something unexpectedly. I have only been using it a couple of days and I'm sure it will become more natural as time goes on. I gave this product 4 out of 5 stars because of the software problem I mentioned. If you are installing it on Windows 98 you should have no problems at all. My brother installed his in less than 5 minutes on Windows 98.

Overall I like the mouse and it even looks kewl sitting on my desk with it's red light. I can recommend it without reservation.

Summary: good Buy
Review: Finally I got to try to use this new mouse, it's very cool and when I received this, I couldn't wait to open the package, plug it and then in just few second, I am already set! This mouse has nice shape too, which fits my hand perfectly. Now it's only for 19.99 bucks, price is going little bit down and I think it's a great buy. I used to have a wheel mouse but it (is bad)! This one don't need to be cleaned, Very nice and convenient! highly recommended

Summary: Nice functionality, but previous design was better.
Review: I've been using the old IntelliMouse for years, and definately thought it is the most comfortable mouse I've ever used. Its nice bulge in the rear creates a nice place to rest the palm of my hand. But I was tired to having to clean the ball every week, plus the local electronics store was running a nice deal on the IntelliMouse Explorer. So I indulged. I have to say, I really like its sleak looks, silver and round shaped, almost like a VW Beetle. More than it's looks I like the functionality. The ability to program the 5 buttons a different way for different applications is a very nice plus, especially for games.
Unfortuneately, after a couple hours of use, it created a throbing pain in my hand and forearm. I couldn't find a comfortable way to hold it, and it is definately missing the nice bulge for my palm. Instead it tapers off at the end with no support. It's also larger than my old mouse, which almost forces one to hold it a certain way.
I also feel that the action for the buttons is sloppy. The 'click' isn't as solid and responsive. And the weel feels loose that doesn't solidly scroll into place.
I'll be returning this mouse, mainly because of the discomfort, but I will miss its added functionality. It appears that there was a optical version of the old design, but Amazon no longer has it in stock, and I can't find it elsewhere. If Microsoft could bring back the old design with the side buttions and programability, I'd be sold.

Summary: Great Product
Review: Ok, I got this mouse way back in October of 2000. I don't know how I could live without it. It is sturdy, contrary to many people's belief that dropping it will hurt the optical sensor--I've dropped it many times and it works just the same. The only thing I don't like about the mouse is sometimes the cursor on the screen will suddenly go to the upper-right of the screen. I'm an avid gamer, and this can get annoying when your in the middle of a fight. But the mouse is so smooth I don't have the guts to go buy a different mouse. Highly recommended to a gamer or someone who uses a mouse all day.

Summary: Useful and reliable
Review: Your mouse pointer will never "stick" again. With optical mouse technology, you don't have to worry about your mouse becoming unaccurate again. The Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical is accurate and has a very cool looking glow, a wheel for scrolling and internet buttons. It takes a little discipline to start actually using the internet buttons, but once you get used to them, they will increase your productivity and make your online life much easier. It fits anyone's hand well (since it is for both right and left handed users) and will help provide you with a pleasant computing experience.

Summary: Excellent buy - I love it.
Review: I have to say, I got a great deal on this mouse. I bought one for my little brother too. It works beautifully. I did have a little trouble getting the two side buttons to work at first but called tech support and they were able to fix my settings. I would definately recommend.

Summary: good performer, slightly chunky
Review: good performance, but it is slightly too chunky. Don't be foolded by tiny pics on the web. Too big for a notebook

Summary: Must For Experienced Users, Unneeded For Newbies
Review: I've now purchased four of these for both home and office. Computer neophytes will treat this mouse as any other typical $10 generic scroll mouse. More experienced users, frequent web users, or those that are constantly browsing through directories will love the addition of two extra buttons (for a total of five): one cleverly disguised on both sides. When you install it, the side left button automatically defaults to 'Go Back', while the right defaults to 'Go Forward'. This may seem silly at first, but once you get used to it you won't be able to exist without it. The functions of every button can be changed. Lastly, this mouse is not very ergonomically friendly. I often spend the majority of my day using a mouse, and my fingers occasionally get sore. If ergonomics is a must I would look into one of Logitech's mice instead which are much more ergonomic. There is no difference in the retail and OEM versions of this mouse, to why not save a few bucks? The latest IntelliMouse software can always be downloaded for free from Microsoft's web site.
