Rating: Summary: Great, great, great...what is? Review: I admit the new optical technology is fascinating and all...that's what really attracted me to this product. Okay, okay...that red flashing light on the bottom of the mouse was so cool! This product is really nice. At last I don't have to open up the mouse and clean all the gunk out. Five buttons...cool! I wonder if I'll get used to it though. I'm afraid of those side buttons, really. It's got so many options to its functions...one accidental click, and your hard drive is wiped out! Just kidding. A mouse is a mouse...it just works simply like a mouse. No big deal being all optical...at least I didn't feel nothing different. One thing that bugs me though...I'm not sure if anyone else experiences it, but sometimes the mouse arrow on the screen goes haywire. You move left and the arrow disappears to the bottom. I notice sometimes the arrow kind of gets "caught" while it moves. Overall it's a good product. I like it. I'm happy.
Rating: Summary: Solid Product! Review: * Easy installation. USB or PS/2. * Very smooth and accurate pointing. * Scroll wheel has less resistance than original Intellimouse. * Comfortable while using. * Made of the non-shiny material used in Microsoft's OEM mice. Resists build-up of "mouse-crud." * Light-weight and manuverable. This mouse is much lighter than the original Intellimouse. * The red light under the "Microsoft" logo looks awesome! Visually stimulating.

Rating: Summary: The perfect mouse. No problems at all. Review: I am a Mac user and needed a replacement for the horrible, hockey puck shaped mouse that comes with the new Apple computers. Needless to say, I'm not the biggest Microsoft fan, but you gotta give credit where it is due. This mouse is FLAWLESS. I decided on the IntelliMouse Optical over the IntelliMouse Explorer primarily because the Explorer just felt too big. The Optical is smaller and feels more like what a traditional mouse feels like. I think the placement of the buttons and scroll wheel is perfect. I have big hands and have no problem at all. My wife has small hands so it works out well. The included software is also VERY usefull and user friendly. You can assign almost any command to any of the buttons, and scroll wheel. For those of you who haven't used a scroll wheel, you will NEVER go back. You hardly have to move your hand at all when browsing the internet or moving through a lot of pages. I have mine set so it scrolls up and down 4 lines at a time, and when you PRESS and scroll (the scroll wheel clicks also), up & down 1 PAGE at a time. The two extra buttons on each side are perfect in their default setting of forward and back in your browser. How cool can you get! Also you can set the cursor to move at lightning speeds (although it's laughable because it's just TOO fast). I read that some people experienced a problem with installation. As far as installation goes, it was two seconds. Just hook up the mouse and it works. Even before I installed the software. Then I just popped in the CD ROM, clicked "install" and it was done. The software just allows you to customise all the cool features, but the mouse works more than fine without it. But, of course, I have a Mac. Installing anything is easy as they don't require drivers. How ironic that people who are using Microsoft Windows have an incompatibility issue with another Microsoft product. Especially something as simple as a mouse. It's too funny. Anyway when all is said & done, hats off to Microsoft. Between this mouse, Microsoft Word (the best consumer word processor), and Internet Explorer 5.0 (the best browser), I'm think I'm becoming a believer. This stuff makes the Macintosh computer that much more mainstream.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful product! Review: I read the specs, then I read the reviews for the mouse at Amazon. I am thrilled with this mouse! No more cleaning the junk out of the wheels for me. The "right-click" button can be a little sensitive, but the more you use the mouse the more adept you become. Quite possibly the last mouse you'll ever need to purchase.
Rating: Summary: THIS MOUSE KICKS Review: I used to always have the trouble of cleaning my old trackball because this black stuff kept accumulating underneath it and inside now i have no more worries this mouse is a deffinate must for big computer users ...
Rating: Summary: The best mouse I have ever tried! Review: This mouse is definitely the best mouse I have ever tried. It feels very comfortable in the hand (right or left), the buttons operate very smoothly, and the mouse itself weighs surprisingly little. If you are a person like me with large hands, this is finally a mouse where you can actually rest your hand on the mouse comfortably. The mouse seem to work very precise, even when used on your jeans! That the tail of the mouse also radiates a warm read glow just further add to the impression that this is a very high quality product. Together with the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro, this mouse defintely helps toward a more comfortable computing experience. 5 stars!
Rating: Summary: IntelliMouse Optical Is Applauded Review: No more stalling - no more hanging up - no more frustrations! I love this mouse!
Rating: Summary: Nice Mouse Review: My last mouse was a original Microsoft wheelmouse, and to say the least this unit blows it out of the water. The mouse is very smooth and a charm to use. The glide of the mouse is great in comparison to any mouse that uses a ball I feel. The mouse works great under Linux and BSD Unix platforms including the wheel function, though I have yet to figure out how to get either OS to utilize the two side buttons, other than that, the mouse is very good.
Rating: Summary: 5 Stars for Microsoft? Review: Never thought I`d be writing a review on a Microsoft product much less give it a 5 star rating, however I am and I mean it. I bought the Intellimouse Optical primarily because I have a great deal of trouble removing the ball on my old mouse to clean it. I have had to replace my mouse several times not beacause they were worn out but because I broke the plastic clip that holds the ball in. When you start growing old it becomes necessary to use tools to do what you once were able to do with your fingers ( I`m 65). This mouse fit my hand better that any other I have owned with the exception of that outside button which I will propably not use. The young blonde dynamo who occasionally drops by to visit gave it a dirty look and said it was cute, however she went ahead and used it. As she and her mother were leaving they both agreed they were going to buy one on the way home. Thats three generations who use a computer for differant reason who feel that it`s a great item. So for all those other old codgers who have trouble with those stupid tracking balls and for the younger people that want a superior product I highly recommend the Intellimouse Optical. To echo what someone else said, If microsoft ever lowers themselves enough to read this, If you guys ever come out with a cordless version I`ll be first in line to buy one. destainfully
