Summary: Impressed
Review: I purchased this product because I needed a keyboard that was small and this was the only one on the market that I found.
I'd read an article that gave it a very positive review so I decided to try it out and see. The fact that the keyboard and mouse were wireless, meant little to me. As a matter of fact, prior to needing a small keyboard, I'd tried numerous wireless keyboards and mice and returned them all. This was because I found that many of the keyboards 'clacked' and/or had a feel I didn't care for, which I'll freely admit is personal and subjective. The other wireless mice however (I tried three), were all difficult to control accurately, especially if one is doing a lot of work in excel or graphics programs.

My expectations for the Gyration keyboard & mouse were low and I was fully prepared to return the product if I didn't like it. To my surprise however, I do like it and have kept it. The mouse does not 'jump' at all and I am most impressed with it. As other feedback has indicated, it's not the most comfortable to use on a desk because it lacks ergonomics. Regardless, this is how I mostly use it and it's well worth it to me to sacrifice a small amount of hand comfort in return for an optical/wireless mouse that operates just as well/even better than a wired one and the other wireless ones I tried. Keep in mind, I did not buy this product for the mouse and yet it's the only wireless one I've used that scrolls and moves smoothly.

The air-mouse function is stunning in it's ability. I have no idea how this company came up with this but it's amazing. It'll take a little practice, but this mouse is a reclining/lounge-person's dream. I personally had no desire to use the mouse this way, but as each day passes, I've found it more and more relaxing and comfortable to sit back in my office chair or even in a recliner (better on my back) and utilize/improve my air-mouse ability. In this regard, the distance range is a big plus. I spend hours and hours on the computer for work and this air-mouse means that I can sit on the floor if I want. I'm tired of my posture/comfort being ruled by a desk. Even though I have a laptop, the touchpad is a drag and I have to use two hands to work quickly and accurately. Those days are gone now.

As to the keyboard, I had to have something smaller and this was my only option. The wireless function was a huge plus and I like the sponge-feel of the keys, although it did take a little getting used. This will be annoying for one who types fast. Also, I agree completely with the previous comments regarding layout of the keyboard. Things are oddly placed, so be prepared to do some correcting until you get used to it. I can't complain too much because I had a space/physical limitation, this keyboard has solved it, and it has operated perfectly.

Set up was easy, there have been absolutely no technical difficulties, and the quality of the merchandise has been superior. I had a particular application for which I needed a solution and Gyration has exceeded my expectations. Away from my desk (but still in my office), I use my 2lb laptop and view its screen, the laptop's build in keyboard for typing, and the gyration mouse. I can be on the floor, in a recliner, on the couch, etc At my desk, I use an external monitor, the gyration keyboard, and the gyration mouse rolling it on the desk in the traditional way. Much more than I expected!

Summary: GOOD PRODUCT,
Review: I was looking for a RF Mouse/Keyboard that will go beyond the logitech's 6 feet range and also a keyboard small enough to place on my lap. I was having a lot of trouble with my logitech's keyboard reception, I use my BigScreen TV as a monitor and work away from my desk (sometimes I work in bed!).

The Installation is straight foward since they are using the Windows USB Human Interface Drivers. If you have Windows 98SE or greater you'll be OK.

KEYBOARD: The Keyboard is good, RF works better than logitech, it is small enough to place on your lap (If you don't like laptop keyboards this is not the right keyboard for you). It has 15 shortcut buttons, but since there is no software you cannot change their functionality. The buttons work as follows:
* Next Track, Prev Track, Play/Pause,Stop, Volume +, Volume -, Mute (work with Windows CD Player or the default media player)
* Back, Foward, stop, refresh, home, search, favorites (works with IE)
* Mail (workw with the default mail app).
NOTE: You'll need ME or greater to take full advantage of the sortcut buttons.

MOUSE: The mouse is awesome!, it works both as an optical or gyroscopic mouse. The gyroscopic functionality is the best, it took me about 5 minutes to get used to it and the more I use it the better I get (it is the same learning process as using a mouse for the first time).

--------------------------------------------------------
PROS:
Easy to Install
25 Feet RF range
Optical and Gyroscopic Mouse

Small Keyboard
Good Looking

CONS:
Shortcut Keys cannot be customized
Needs Win ME or greater to take Full advantage of the Keyboard Shorcuts.

Summary: DOA
Review: Showed up dead on arrival (receiver not functioning at all, tried it on at least three systems - ME, 2000, desktops and laptop).

Customer support was friendly enough but they cannot raise the dead.

I'll try a return and update the review once the replacement arrives.

Summary: The definitive presentation mouse (once you get used to it)
Review: The Gyration mouse is your average optical mice, but with one big difference: a gyroscope inside the mouse that let's you operate the mouse 'in the air' and without line of sight, up to 25ft. Personally, I prefer a normal desktop mouse when I have a desk, but in 'deskless' situations, such as surfing the net from your couch or in boardroom meetings, this is the definitive solution. There is a 2 hour learning curve with this mouse, but it becomes natural after a while.

A wireless, tiny keyboard also comes with this combo. The keyboard is *very* light and also has excellent range, although it is a little too small for comfort as it has the exact dimensions of a typical laptop keyboard. Great if you have very tiny hands and are used to a laptop , but I much prefer the big desktop keyboards, and my fingers are a little slimmer than the average male's.

Aesthetically, the keyboard/mouse combo also look very nice.

The Mouse
------------------
Pros:
- The gyroscope works extremely well when you don't have a desk or are in a deskless situation (ie. your couch)
- You can use it on a surface like a normal mouse in addition to 'in the air'
- 25ft of range is accurate (worked great for me at 20ft through walls)
- *the* boardroom/presentation mouse

Cons:
- Battery drains a little faster than conventional wireless mice, and will require a charge every two days
- you will have a hard time with games in 'gyroscope' mode, unless you're very accurate in making small movements with just your wrist
- Does not have the conventient 'back' and 'forward' buttons other mice have
- Mostly convenient when one needs to do tasks without a desk

The Keyboard
-----------------
Pros:
- *very* light
- good operating range
- small
- looks nice

Cons:

- no convenient keypad on keyboard (except if you use the awkward function key)
- because it's small, it may be uncomfortable for some with bigger fingers
- The media keys are not configurable, and there is no software/drivers for it

Overall, I'm very pleased with the mouse. I rarely use the keyboard, however, due it's small size that is less comfortable as a full sized keyboard. I would immediately recommended it if you're really need it for deskless situations, but otherwise if you work at your desk most of the time, a conventional wireless with more features is the way to go.

Hint: Double click the trigger button to go into 'triggerless' mode

Summary: Update
Review: This is an update to my previous review. The unit arrived a DOA as previously described. The new unit arrived and seems to be working fine. I would rate it a four star but the DOA counts as a -1 star no matter what (works as described though there is some minor learning curve and the handle could be better suited for use off the table, its primary allure).
Again, a good device.
