Summary: Burned Up
Review: Received the mouse March 10, 2004 and it quit March 21, 2004. When replacing the batteries as though that was the problem, it smelled burned inside. Big disappointment in quality.

Summary: MS Wireless Optical Mouse (Steel Blue) vs Logitech MX700
Review: Reviewer: jbw98ga from Martin, GA United States
It is my good fortune to use a Logitech MX700 mouse at work and a Microsoft Wireless Optical (Steel Blue) mouse at home. Like many reviewers, I initially found them both to be too large and heavy. But after making the transition, a "standard" size mouse now seems small, awkward, and toy-like. Of the two, the MX700 is noticeably heavier. However, one should consider that it is an ultra precise pointing device, so not only is the weight comfortable once one has gotten used to it, but it is also an aid in performing precision work (just as professional photographers often prefer heavier cameras over lighter units). I have been using the MX700 for over a year and the MS mouse for about two months now. I had no installation problems with either unit and have experienced no problems in their operation. I have not yet had to replaces the batteries of either. I find both to be smooth, accurate, and error free. I am not a gamer, so I cannot speak to the appropriateness of either unit for such use. One distinction between the two is that the MX700's scroll wheel gives a ratchet-like click while the MS mouse is unbelievably smooth. Such preferences are highly subjective, but I prefer the feedback of the MX700's click. My major complaint with the MS mouse is that it's "glide" on the mousepad is not very smooth, no matter what mousepad or surface is used. I have gotten used to this, but if the prices were equal, this issue would weigh heavily against the MS mouse.
There is much to like in both of these units and the purchase choice could hinge on either personal preference or on cost factors. My "price is no object" winner is the Logitech MX700, based on my perception of superior performance, near perfect ergonomics, and the fact that it is rechargeable. However, at the time of this writing it is significantly more expensive than the MS mouse (75% more at Amazon.com). In my opinion one truly cannot make a bad choice in choosing between these units. I believe that the MX700 is absolutely the best mouse on the market, but the MS mouse is good enough to warrant consideration and to win the decision if money is an overriding issue.

Summary: Great Job Microsoft (I doubt I'll say this again in my life)
Review: This is a (sigh) great mouse from microsoft. I love the way it fits my hand. The scroll wheel is incredibly smooth and allows for more sensitive scrolling. Also, like the box says, this mouse is very economical (when it comes to batteries). I have found it to have great battery life. I was able to use it without having to replace the batteries for 4 months. (I use my computer a little more than most people.) My one complaint happens to be wiith the selling point of this product. The tilt wheel. I barely use it because it cannot be programmmed to do anything except move from side to side in large documents. (I have a large flat panel display and I keep my resolution at 1024x768, so I never really have documents that need to be scrolled side to side). I was hoping it could at least be progammed to move back and forward in my web browser or highlight text. Still this is a good mouse that is reasonably priced.

Summary: Unbelievably bad
Review: This is a horrible mouse. The motion is jerky and imprecise (using it with an Aluminum Powerbook), and the effort of trying to control it causes shoulder pain after any prolonged use. I tried to get my wife to take it to use with her Windows 2000 machine, and she hated it just as much. I plan to throw it away. And leave it to Microsoft, in the age of Bluetooth, to make a wireless mouse that requires a big mouse-shaped dongle that plugs into the computer with a wire. Duh.

Summary: Not bad at all
Review: This is actually a pretty good mouse. The price is up there for a new one (40-50 bucks) but I really liked it accuracy and ease of use. The scroll wheel is a nice heavy feeling on it when scrolling. It's a smooth scroll without any clicking noises or anything like that with the side to side scrolling. I recommend getting this mouse if your lookin for a nicer than normal mouse. I am giving this 5 stars because I've used it for hours of gaming and regular day use (internet browsing) and loved it every day. You can find them cheaper on the net look around before purchasing, it's your best bet. Oh and make sure you buy some recharable batteries if you don't feel like wasting a bunch of batteries every 3-5 months. It's cheaper in the long run!

Summary: OK mice for everything except gaming
Review: This mouse is great for multitasking, and the tilt wheel certainly is no gimmick, but there is a slight lag, which is noticable only in games. There is a cool feature that allows you to only have one battery in, and the mouse still works. The single battery has to be placed nearthe middle or there is a strange feel to it without a proper center of balance. Wireless is a lot more comfortable than a mouse anchored by a wire, but if you want a gaming mouse, go logitec. They make the best mices for gaming.

Summary: Crummy
Review: This mouse is the most awkward and non-ergonomic mouse of any of the MS products I have ever used. It has a weird, tapered, bulbous base that forces your fingers into positions that are not natural. It actually feels more comfortable if you grab it backwards.

My simple MS Intellimouse Optical (corded) mouse blows this one away in shear comfort.

The side-scrolling wheel takes up too much real estate on the top of the mouse. The wheel action offers no positive feedback if you rely on that feature in games. I do.
The wheel button includes a feature to toggle through open applications. First of all, I usually have 10 things open at once so its faster to use the taskbar. Secondly, the pressure required to activate the button is brutal.

I was a bit dismayed to find that the driver was not Win98 compatible. All over box it says 'Windows and MAC'. Only in the fine print on the bottom of the box does it say Win2000 or WinXP only! My bad for not reading every square inch of the box.

I'm a big fan of Microsoft products in general. They USUALLY do their homework, but this one must have been designed by the new guy. The smooth scrolling works great in documents and web pages. But that feature alone does not compensate for the wack ergonomics.

Summary: Best Mouse I have ever used
Review: This mouse is very responsive, great feel in your hand, excellent battery life and looks great.

I have had this mouse at work for 5 months and the battery level is still almost full and I use it 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I used the high end logitech and the shape just didnt feel a quarter as good as this mouse. The sideways scroll is great for use in excel spreadsheets but nothing else really.

People this mouse is not for a laptop, the size of the receiver would defeat the purpose of use with a laptop there are better solutions available with smaller wireless mice for laptops.

This mouse is great in games, yes the scroll button is hard at first to swtich weapons but when you get used to it, it is smooth and very nice to use.

I would definately buy another one of these mice.

Summary: high quality build and performance, worth your money
Review: This product is worth the 35 bucks I spent on it. It's beautiful and it works. Just install the software, plug it in, and you're set. It performs just like a wired optical mouse. It feels a little heavier but it's something that you can get used to over time. No lags, no "wake up" time when you move it really quick after long periods of rest (despite the power savings mode). Now my left-hand-mouse-user dad can move the mouse over anytime without pulling the cord. This is how my old mouse got damaged. The only complaint I have is that it feels quite awkward to press the middle button, probably because of the new feature that enables the wheel to be tilted left and right.

Summary: A fantastic product
Review: This product outperforms any standard mouse hands down. It is responsive, quick, and very easy to use. The cordless feature is very nice because you don't have to worry about constantly readjusting the cord so that it doesn't get twisted or tangled and interfere with your usage. Also, the wireless receiver is very powerful and can be placed several feet away without sacrificing any functionality. Although there are more expensive models for sale, this version is very good and is definitely a wise investment if you spend any amount of time surfing the internet or using a computer.
