Rating: Summary: Working very well so far Review: I have got this mouse a few days ago, and it works quite well. This is my first wireless mouse, so I can't compare it with anything. I have put the transmitter on my computer, which is about 2 feet away and 1.5 feet above where I use the mouse. So far it works well without 'warping'.
Rating: Summary: Nice product Review: I have only been using this mouse for a few days now and I already really like it!It's a little larger and weighs about the same as the standard corded Microsoft mouse that I had been using and feels a little more comfortable. The optical feature alone is much better than the ball. It's much smoother and I don't have to spend time cleaning the rubber ball and wheels. The package comes with the mouse, a receiver that plugs into either a ps/2 or USB, (it comes with an adapter)two Energizer AA batteries, the software disk, and booklet. All you have to do is install the software (which takes a couple of minutes), restart the computer, insert the batteries, plug in the receiver and it's ready to use. It is great not having a cable to get in the way and I can store the mouse in the desk drawer when not in use. The mouse will go into a power saving mode after a short time of not being used. There is no on / off switch to forget to shut off. The middle scroll wheel is also a lot smoother than on the standard mouse. Overall I am happy with this product and think that it is worth every penny.
Rating: Summary: Works With Mac OS 8.6!! Review: I love this mouse! I originally got it for my Compaq P4 running Windows XP, but I found out that it works on my 98 iMac running Mac OS 8.6. I didn't even need to install the drivers. I plugged it into the keyboard USB slot and it was ready to go. You gotta love Apple. The only downside is that you can only use the right and left buttons on the classic Mac OS. I love the design of the mouse as well. The color of the mouse does not exactly match the picture. The color has more of a steel/blue metallic look. This is the perfect mouse for everyday users who want a little style.
Rating: Summary: If you plan to use this with a laptop, read this. Review: I purchased this yesterday and returned it today. I wanted to use this with my Thinkpad. I could not load the driver and application to use the additional features (tilt wheel) because it conflicts with the Thinkpad touchpad driver. On Microsoft support site, it states the fact that it conflicts with some popular touchpads. I was disappointed that Microsoft forgot to print that on the outside of the box and wasted my time. Also, what is the deal with this scroll wheel? It is sticky and hard to move. I replaced it with a Logitech MX700, plugged it in, loaded the driver and bingo... It is perfect!
Rating: Summary: avoid Microsoft mice like the plague! Review: I will never again buy another Microsoft Mouse! I received one of these as a Christmas gift, and Microsoft has changed the Intellipoint software so that you cannot map different keyboard keys to the buttons. You are obligated to choose from the "dumbed-down" list of commands that Microsoft has deemed "useful to everyone." I had an earlier version of this product a few years ago, and it was great for CAD, etc. because I could program the mouse buttons to work in specific programs, but now that appears impossible. Also, the "tilt-wheel" is useless in my opinion. I can already tell I will get chafing on my fingers from pushing the stupid wheel side-to-side. What's wrong with two wheels?
Rating: Summary: Feels good works poorly Review: I've used this mouse for about two weeks and am sending it back. First the good - it installed easily enough and set-up was quick. The ergonomics of the mouse are great and the buttons and scroll wheel seem well manufactured. Now the bad - even after fresh batteries I couldn't get very far from the monitor, so it has very weak reception. When it was close enough, it was sketchy whether or not it would recognize a button click. The crummy performance has encouraged me to send it back and try something else. In summary, I like the design and feel, but it falls short in reliability.
Rating: Summary: Beware the tilting wheel Review: In other respects this mouse is pretty good. However people who use the wheel as a button (for example, opening new tabs in Mozilla), should know that while that capability is still there, it is tricky to use. The tilt functionality is triggered instead, more often than not. It is very hard to press the wheel down perfectly vertically, so as not to tilt the wheel. The tilt functionality itself is not that useful anyway, so on the whole this is something of a backward step. Apart from that, the mouse has good ergonomics, and tracks the movement quickly. I wish they did a left handed version of their top of the line mouse (the Explorer), or failing that added more buttons to the symmetrical models such as this one.
Rating: Summary: Tilt feature cannot be configured Review: Mouse works well overall; but the tilt feature cannot be configured by the user (unlike the other buttons).
Rating: Summary: Nice mouse :) Review: Nice mouse, feels very good in your hand, smooth movement and precise. Only the slightest hint of lag, noticeable in games but non-existent anywhere else. Tilt wheel is a useless gimmick, even a disadvantage. The whole wheel feels weird with fluid STEPLESS rotation which makes it TOTALLY NOT suitable for FPS games: it's overly sensitive, so sometimes you TOUCH it by accident and find the next (or previous) weapon in your hands, very frustrating in the middle of a fight, and because if the same reasons, you can't really make use of the middle mouse button in games (or more likely anywhere), the button needs a very firm press to begin with which is discouraging. I would say the whole wheel (scroll, tilt and button) are the mouse's drawback, may be the only. M$ should ditch the gimmick wheel in favor of something more practical and pleasant to use. How about the wheel that was on the original intellimouse with intellieye? IMO that is THE wheet to beat.
Rating: Summary: Good design, needs better user defined customization Review: PLUSES: The Microsoft Wireless optical mouse has a great feel, rock-steady movement and cursor control.
MINUSES: The "Tiltwheel" technology has limited use. Hopefully, Microsoft will add user-defined functionality to the scroll wheel tilt (like backspace, etc) so it is a useful addition to the normal mouse.
