Summary: Keep it updated
Review: I find this combo excellent once you've updated the drivers just as you need to do with all computer hardware, microsoft is very good at supporting their in-house products and this is no exception. I had the Intellimouse Explorer mouse for two years and it started having problems,I called MS and they only asked for was it's serial number and sent a new updated mouse replacement without question albeit it took a month. Bluetooth tech is still developing and needs updating,if your a computer savvy geek and want leading edge equipt like this combo,go for it..I give it for 5 stars.

Summary: Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Bluetooth
Review: I had a MIB keyboard that this unit did not uninstall although during the installation it indicated that it did. Uninstalled the old keyboard then the Bluetooth would not work. The mouse worked fine although it was slow in waking up. It also didn't seem to track as fast as the wired mouse.

Contacted Microsoft & they recommended returning it to the store. Best Buy didn't have any more units so I bought a Logitech unit for 45% less. Haven't tried it yet.

Summary: Adds tremendous flexibility
Review: I have found this item to be tremendously useful to me since deciding to use a widescreen hi-def television as my computer monitor. I don't find that the keyboard or mouse use excessive amounts of battery power, although I would use a conventional setup to do serious time-consuming work at the computer. It is possible to keep the older keyboard and mouse connected. What this does do quite well is allow me to take a seat across the room from the monitor and type into applications like Word or to access screens using the mouse. Both keyboard and mouse require a wake-up after a period of non-usage, but that requires no more than a tap on the keyboard or mouse button. Only drawback is installing Service Pack 1, which is required, and huge, and didn't come with my edition of Windows XP. Otherwise, faultless, and very attractive.

Summary: Good, but requires maintainence
Review: I have one complete desktop for home, and one bluetooth optical mouse for my laptop (which has an internal bluetooth mini-PCI chip). The keyboard is nearly flawless; it's only been forgotten by the computer once in a year, and never have I had to replace the batteries. On the desktop mouse- it loses connection probably twice a month, and this frequency increases during certain activities (I haven't figured it out yet, but 95% of the time it happens to my wife and not me, and I use the computer the most). The batteries wear out too fast in the mouse, so I am getting rechargable batteries. The one I use with my laptop has been flawless, and I credit the actual bluetooth chip as being superior to the lame transciever. This isn't a catch-all solution to the world of cordless desktops, but once you buy one you won't go back.

Summary: This Wireless Keyboard and mouse Rocks!
Review: I just recently purchaced this microsoft bluetooth keyboard and mouse and think its a great system. I've had this system for about 2 weeks and have had no problems what so ever. I must mention two things though, I am only interested in these two items for now and I also left my oringinal keyboard and mouse installed as recomended and have had no problems so far. I surf for many hours on the web a day and so far according to the battery level page after 2 weeks i've still got over 3/4 of my battery life left. I really like the f key setup cause I use msn premium and it works seemlessly. I also get almost the full 30 ft of distance for use with my tv in the front room. It also installed in less than 15 min. I Highly recommened this wireless keyboard combo! It also Looks Great! I also like the feel of the mouse and the keyboard is well designed. Also Amazon has the best price anywhere even over ebay and FREE shipping! If you really want the best range of any wireless device, than this should be your choice! Thanks Tony

Summary: Keyboard stops working
Review: I like everything about the keyboard/mouse, but the fact is, the keyboard stops working periodically (every day or so for me) and I need to remove the batteries and put them back for it to start working again. Major pain.

Summary: Works with Belkin transceiver
Review: I like the feel of the mouse and the keyboard, BUT I didn't like the idea that I could only use bluetooth to connect the keyboard and the mouse (I have a PocketPC that I like to sync over BT as well).

The supplied transceiver doesn't support anything but the keyboard and mouse. HOWEVER...

I have Belkin's USB bluetooth transceiver which works great. Install the Belkin device and then add the mouse and keyboard as HID devices (this might not be obvious... Use the Bluetooth setup wizard from "My Bluetooth Places".

Everything will work, except you won't have access to the special keys on the keyboard. If you want that as well as battery level tracking, go ahead and install the mouse and keyboard software from the CD included with the keyboard, except: ignore the message about deinstalling existing Bluetooth software and cancel the install when it asks you to connect the supplied MS Bluetooth transceiver. At this point, the keyboard/mouse software has been installed and you don't need the MS bluetooth stuff anyway. In the end, the install takes about 15 min and everything works as it should. PLUS, the belkin transceiver works with everything, including the PocketPC.

Summary: Major Pain
Review: I purchased 3 of these combos to use in several conference rooms and they are a support nightmare. The mice regularly get lost and have to be re-detected, which is fine for me but clueless users are bombarding the help desk. I thought it was the IBM laptops since they are shut down after every use, but now I leave them on all the time and after as little as 15-20 minutes of inactivity the mouse gets dropped from the list of detected devices and has to be re-detected. May be XP SP2 will fix it?...

Summary: Beautiful yet completely flawed
Review: I put my heart before my head on this one. It's the nicest looking mouse and keyboard you can put on your desk, plus it's got a bluetooth transceiver, what more could you want?

How about a product that works? For whatever reason the mouse and keyboard go to sleep after only 2 or 3 minutes of inactivity which would be fine if they didn't take literally 2 or 3 seconds to wake up. It is very annoying and causes problems when trying to use a (sleeping) keyboard modifier on a non-sleeping mouse.

Then the mouse eats batteries.

The bluetooth transceiver they include basically doesn't work with anything else. Certainly not any of the Pocket PC's out there.

No indicator lights on the keyboard at all - no caps, no num lock, no cool glow. There's no reason to put 2 AA batteries in a keyboard, make it 4 or 8 and give me some indicator lights. They're just little LED's.

Mouse feel is so-so and always seems to be just a little off.

Your BIOS can't see it so if you need to change settings there or if you need to change startup options for XP you need to have a wired keyboard handy.

Setup is a big pain too but you only have to do it once.

Maybe I'll buy version 2 of this but all I can recommend is to stay away from this and get Microsoft's regular wireless desktop which is a very nice product (even if the range is short).

Microsoft should be embarassed.
