Rating: Summary: The Best Review: I am a hardcore gamer. I sometimes play games 12 hours at a time. This mouse is excellent for gaming, I have big hands and it fits perfect. It is also beautiful to look at. I use a Func Surface Mouse Pad and usually use teflon tape on my mouse feet. This mouse feels so good I haven't even put any on yet.
I like the feet, they are very small and there are 5 instead of the usual 4 for extra smooth sliding. The fact that they are so small will save on the expensive teflon feet tape too :)
The mouse is very light, I really cannot find anything bad to say about it. The only thing in question in my book is how long it will last and it seems built well so I expect to be happy a while :) Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Gaming Performance Mouse Review: After going through several ball mice and a few optical mice, all made by the biggies MS and Logitech.
I found the perfect gaming mouse in the MX 500. The curser
is true to my hand movement, and the buttons program easily.
Binding the buttons to game interactive tasks like jump, fire, crouch and the sort is very straight forward. This mouse gets my vote for any gamer on your Christmas list.
Not to be reserved for fun and games, it is comfortable and accurate for all users.
Rating: Summary: Best Mouse I've Ever Used Review: Having been a computer gamer and user most of my life, I've come in contact with many different mice. The mx510 is the best. The design is the same as the mx500, mx700, and mx900 series, a somewhat tried-and-true style. The forward and back buttons (on the left side of the mouse) are close enough to use easily, but aren't in danger of being accidentally clicked. The up and down buttons (positioned above and below the scrollwheel) take some getting used to, but are useful enough to outweigh this. The up button *isn't* the most natural button, but I'm able to click it with my forefinger easily (despite reviews to the contrary), and my hands are average sized. The switch application button seems to be the only downfall of the mouse. It isn't as easy to reach as the other buttons and its usefulness is questionable. A friend of mine with the mx700 (same design, just a little older and wireless), however, swears by that button and says he couldn't be happier that it was included. Even in the case of someone who doesn't like it, it really doesn't take away from the mouse; you'd don't have to use it if you don't want to. Note: I would not recommend this to anyone that uses a mouse with their left hand. The optical engine is newer and supposedly better than the older mx500s and mx700s. I, however, haven't really noticed a difference, having used an mx700 before. Despite that, it's amazingly smooth. I have heard people online and in person complain that it "jerks" or is "twitchy," but I'd venture a guess that most of those people either do not have quality mousepads or have incorrect sensitivity settings in their OS. One person who mentioned the twitchiness to me in person showed it to me, and then was surprised when I fixed it easily by turning on "Enhance pointer precision" and lowering the sensitivity. The mouse will track on virtually anything: fabrics (if you're using a laptop while sitting on the couch), just about any hard shiny surface (that traditional trackball mice have difficulty with), plastic, paper, metal, you name it. The software included is easy to use and has never had a compatibility issue that I've seen. Remapping *any* of the buttons to a variety of different controls is easy. For example: I was able to map the up and down buttons to "next song"/"last song" in Winamp, which is one of the coolest things I've seen a mouse do. Overall it is a wonderful product and a great deal for someone looking for a new, stylish, light, and feature intensive corded mouse.
Rating: Summary: Great hardware, ho-hum software Review: I am not a gamer, but spend many hours every day in front of the computer. The Logitech mouse is beautiful, functional, comfortable. Microsoft screwed up with their latest clunky, huge and hugely uncomfortable optical mouse offering. The Logitech 510 fits in the hand and is a delight to operate. BUT I spend a lot of time flicking between different applications and the MS mouse has application specific button allocations eg on some programs you want a button to activate "close window", but on another program you want the same button to be "escape". You can do that easily with the MS mouse, but not at all with the Logitech mouse. Don't let the game tuned hardware sticker fool you - that is just a way that the registry can remember orientations and acceleration parameters, not button allocation. I wished I had known this before buying - Not sure it would have changed my mind, there just aren't that many options when it comes to multi-button, optical corded mice, but it's certainly a shame. The good news is that any keystroke (include CTRL + ALT combinations) are allocatable to any button and there are plenty of 'em. Final annoyance is the spam software that gets packaged with the driver install. I want a mouse. I do not want (although I was offered it during various pop ups during the install) a shortcut to ebay, a media center player, a subscription to a game arcade or the possibility for Logitech to send me messages from "trusted parties" through their desktop alert system. This is like seeing ads before the movie, I have just paid to be spammed at, and I don't appreciate that at all. Poor show.
Rating: Summary: Hands-down, the best mouse I've ever used Review: I bought this after my old optical mouse (a free-after-rebate no-name item I got less than a year ago) was on the fritz. I use this at home, where my computer set-up is less-than-perfect since I don't spend as much time using it as I do my office computer, so with the old mouse, I could feel the onset of carpal tunnel after any intensive mouse sessions (for example, selective color correction of photos in Photoshop). However, with the MX510, I've used it for hours on end with no fatigue at all.
The placement of the back/forward buttons is great. I had a Kensington 5-button mouse at work where extra buttons were located at the base of the mouse on both sides, and I was always clicking those by accident. I was not particularly fond of the "cruise control" effect, so I mapped those buttons to Page Up and Page Down. An earlier reviewer stated he had a lot of trouble getting to the Program Swithcer button because he had to "crinch your middle finger up to hit it" but I mouse with my index finger on the wheel, so I never have a problem getting to it. In fact, I hit it a lot when I actually mean to Page Down. Other reviewers have had complained about the stiffness of the wheel, but I find it easy to use.
I ordered mine on November 11, 2004, and the CD came with the latest Mouseware drivers (9.80 as of this writing). My only complaint with them is that I can't map the buttons to do different things in different applications. For example, back/forward are only useful while web browsing. Is there some reason I can't make them do something else when I'm not using a browser?
Rating: Summary: Fast mouse... Review: I bought this mouse earlier this year when it was exclusive to Best Buy and before the blue one was out. I've been very happy with it so far. Very quick & responsive. Best mouse for gamers and quicker and more reliable than wireless, with no need for batteries or recharging!! Set-up was a breeze. I like the forward/back buttons on the side and the customizable buttons on top, makes surfing the net easier and more fun. My sole complaint is it lacks the little red LED my old microsoft mouse had, but that's just a cosmetic/design issue. The MX 510 is very smooth and fits my hand comfortably. Amazon has a great price w/ free shipping too! Highly Recommended.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!!!!! Review: I mean, I've been comparing Logitech MX 510 Performance Optical Mouse and the Microsoft tilt mouse, but this mouse recovers the fact that it can't tilt, but only on spreadsheets do u need t hat ability.. u can change between documents without using Alt+Tab!! wow
Rating: Summary: MX 510 = killing machine Review: I ordered this mouse because I still had an ancient ball-mouse and this was giving me problems. My hand started to feel bad after one hour of use and I simply couldn't win a match in Half Life against my cousin.
After buying this mouse, not only did it solve the problem with my hand, as it is big and just matches the size of it and just feels good, but it also gave me more kills at Half Life, although I still can't win over my cousin hehe. But he asked me: "what did you do to play better from one day to the other?".
I'm keeping the secret.
Rating: Summary: Comfortable, Fast, but fragile Review: I purchased my first MX510 (blue) in August of 04. It is very comfortable, very accurate (good for photo editing) and very fast. The only complaint I have is that is does not hold up very well. The primary button started to act up around December 2004. I called Logitech and they sent a replacement.(Excellent Customer Support) However the replacement (new not refurbished) has only lasted for a couple months before exhibiting the same problems as the first one. Yes I downloaded the latest driver, tried it on another PC, all with the same result. The primary button begins to fail which causes it to not "hold" when trying to drag and drop and it will click multiple times on a single press. I must give BIG KUDOS to Logitech as they are sending ANOTHER replacement. I admit I do play a LOT of FPS games, but this mouse is a GAMEING mouse and should be able to handle that type of use. I suggested a slight and very simple re-design of putting a stop between the outer button and the actual micro switch that would prevent the "bottoming out" of the micro switch that intense "shooting" may cause. Overall it is still the best mouse I have owned and I highly recomend it. Just try and go easy on the "trigger"!
Rating: Summary: Not very comfortable (I'm right handed) Review: I'm an avid gamer heavily into online FPS games. So it goes without saying the mouse is one of the more important equipment to a gamer like myself. I took a look at this mouse, looked very snazzy, and the design seemed rather ergonomic. Didn't have a store display model I can play around with, but I still purchased this anyways. Been using this for about a week now. If you're a FPS gamer, you'll realize that when you move your mouse, you often times lift the mouse up and reposition and move the mouse again. This wasn't made for that. There is a groove for the thumb but the groove on the right side seems to have been made for the ring finger, but feels more comfortable placing my pinkie finger there. And because of that oddly placed groove on the right side, I'm constantly struggling to find a good position to lay my hands on. I've been on the recieving end of someone's muzzle many times because I was preoccupied with trying to find comfort. For basic window navigation and web surfing, it's okay. The back page button is real handy, and the autoscroll down button (right below the wheel) saves me the hassle of constantly scrolling the wheel. However, the forward page button and autoscroll up button is placed in an awkward position, requiring you to reposition your hand just to reach those two. Not a horrible purchase by far. Haven't had trouble...yet. edit - 3 June 2004: I just noticed this. Try this the next time you're in a store with a display model of Mx 510. Flip the mouse around so the buttons are pointing at your direction. Now, put your LEFT hand on the mouse. REAL comfortable, aren't they? The thumb groove is not crampy, and the pinkie and ring finger now has a VERY comfortable spot! Did logitech put the grooves on backwards?! My goodness!
