Rating: Summary: More Oooh's than the Visor Itself! Review: I ordered the Stowaway keyboard sight unseen because I was not about to allow my dislike of Graffiti to hamper my first Palm OS experience. As a journalist with tons of contacts, and who likes to write the occasional article on the fly without having to lug a laptop around, I thought buying this was the perfect compromise (as opposed to purchasing a Psion or Jornada). It's an incredible device and indispensable for anyone who's into serious data entry on their Visor. It's such an eye-catching gadget that people who see me with my Visor and Stowaway are far more interested in the keyboard than the organizer! Two weeks after receiving the keyboard however, I did have a problem with a metal clasp that had somehow gotten bent. So I was no longer able to completely close the Stowaway. Two phone calls to Targus (one to technical support, the next to customer support), and barely no questions asked, they shipped off a replacement to me, and included a postage-paid envelope to send the defective one back. That's impressive service. So potential fragility aside (which is why I didn't give five stars), the keyboard is amazing, and so is Targus' service. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Cheat on your laptop and love it Review: I have a great laptop. So great in fact, it takes a full backpack to lug the thing around. Handy for travel? Easy to toss into a bag with other odds and ends? Energy efficient? HA! Now, my green Visor and my Stowaway keyboard are my laptop. With the addition of editing software and a text-to-doc/doc-to-text program (less than $20 all told on Handago.com), I have everything I need. I've used the Stowaway at Denny's while waiting for breakfast, at Starbucks on a rainy afternoon, on the floor in the middle of a crowded convention, on my tray table on a business flight, etc. It fits in my purse, "feels" like my expensive laptop's keyboard, and has freed me from Graffiti (great for note taking, but who wants to write a book in block printing?). Plus, every time I get the keyboard out, strangers come over to check it out! (At least two of them went right out and bought a Stowaway of their own!) I highly recommend it to anyone who is using their PDA for more than simply playing Sub Hunt or recording dentist appointments. Real word processing is possible and utterly portable with the Visor, Stowaway combo.
Rating: Summary: Small Problem Review: I just bought the stowaway keyboard and it works great for writing emails, notes, etc... But I had one problem w/ the first one I got from Comp. USA. The "t" key didn't always work as well as it should have. Every now and then I'd have to really concentrate on hitting the button to get it to work. All the other keys worked great though and the new one that I have seems to have not problems. Overall it's a great little item but I'd buy it for the same price from a store in your area so you don't have to pay to return it if it is defective. Awesome product though and I'm not as worried about breaking it as I am of breaking my visor so it's pretty sturdy, but then you can see for yourself if you go to Comp USA or somewhere that they sell it in a store rather than online. Happy shopping. KC
Rating: Summary: A difficult connection Review: I am sure this is a fine product. But not for me. In the manual, it is mentioned that connecting the Visor to the keyboard may be "a little difficult." It sure was. I tried--literally for hours, and couldn't get it. I called Tech Support, and they were understanding of my trouble, they were not able to help. I was told, " . . . maybe something is wrong with the keyboard or your Visor." I returned my keyboard.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic product, but at a price Review: The Targus Stowaway turns your Visor into an ultra-compact, mobile office. The Stowawy's size--both in the full-size utility mode and the folded storage mode--far surpasses the GoType! The Stowaway is about the same size as the Visor in the bifold case when folded for travel. When expanded, though, it really does become a full-sized keyboard with plenty of Palm-specific options like "Done," "Cancel," and "OK" keys. While it can be used on your lap, it does help to have a firm surface under it. I find it much sturdier than the GoType! and do not worry about breaking it. I'm more concerned about damaging my Visor than I would ever be of damaging the Stowaway. While it doesn't have a built-in HotSync ability like the GoType!, the point of having a keyboard is to have rapid data entry away from your computer. If you were at your computer and could HotSync, you certainly wouldn't be using a smaller keyboard like the GoType!'s. The Stowaway is certainly the best external keyboard on the market, but at [the price], you really have to be committed to being away from your computer and have the need to enter a lot of data before the dividends offset the investment.
Rating: Summary: Targus Collapsable Keyboard Review: Imagine your keyboard is printed on a piece of paper. Fan fold it vertically in four equal sections so it is now about the same size as the Handspring itself and about as thick! This is worth the $99 if all you do is unfold it at parties and amaze your friends! On top of that, it works great, travels great and accomplishes the task of getting information in your Handspring quickly. It is lightweight and probably won't take alot of abuse, but what keyboard will? I love it, use it and highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Great keyboard Review: This keyboard is a great accessory for the Visor. It is amazing how it folds up into something thatis not much larger than the Visor is itself. It is a little fragile, but other than that, I am very impressed.
Rating: Summary: THE must have accessory for your Visor Review: I previously used Landware's GoType! Keyboard with my Palm IIIx. I was happy with it, but the keys were not full size, and at times made it difficult to type. I have been using the Stowaway keyboard for over a month now, and am quite impressed with it. It far exceeded my expectations. There are reviews that might say that it is fragile, or you can't type with it on your lap. I don't find this the case at all. The keyboard when folded is housed in a metal case (compared to the plastic GoType!). You can type with it on your laptop, although on a hard surface is preferred due to the folding nature of this accessory. Bottomline, it is a full size keyboard that fits in your pocket ... need I say anymore?
Rating: Summary: A "must-have" accessory Review: After a modem, the Targus portable keyboard is an absolute "must-have" accessory for the Visor. The Visor is outstanding, but for any serious work (long e-mails, faxes, etc.,) the graffiti system is too slow and painstaking to be really useful. The Targus portable keyboard enables you to be truly productive when traveling without the need to lug around a heavy laptop computer. I have been using the keyboard for about a month, including while traveling, and it works like a charm. It is lightweight, and appears to be somewhat fragile, but I have not had any problems while carrying it with me everywhere. Combining the Visor, a modem, the Targus keyboard and a good e-mail (Multi-Mail Pro) and fax (Mobile WinFax Pro) program, I have a complete, lightweight solution for most of my needs for a mobile computer. I may never travel with my laptop again.
Rating: Summary: Cool, but rather delicate Review: This is a very cool keyboard, and easy to type on. It is small enough to take anywhere since it folds up into such a small package. However, overall it does feel very delicate and I don't expect that it would last very long at all with heavy or rough use. Thankfully, I don't tend to be very hard on things, so I expect to get a reasonable life from it. I did have a small problem with one of the catches that allow you to fold up the unit and snap it closed, but was able to fix the metal piece that bent the wrong way one time so that it would "catch" appropriately again, and I've had no more trouble with it. Overall, I do like the keyboard, and consider it's small size to make it a worthy purchase if you get along well with delicate items!
