Description:

This set combines the two essential ingredients of comfortable computing: a wheel mouse and an ergonomic keyboard. The wheel mouse makes scrolling through documents and websites incredibly easy--no more clicking on side scroll bars; now you can simply roll the wheel to scroll up or down. And installation is quick: just plug the wheel mouse into a serial or PS/2 port, and take a couple minutes to install the included software.

For those afraid of spoiling themselves with a "special" keyboard, fear not: an ergonomic keyboard is no longer an indulgence reserved for those with wrist braces or a note from their doctor. Split, angled keyboards are quickly becoming the office standard, as they allow your hands to rest naturally while you type.

Used to a static keyboard, we initially felt a little awkward typing with our hands angled away from each other. But the overwhelming relief we felt in our wrists quickly compensated for the adjustment time. After a day or two, we no longer noticed the change in keyboard except that the relief in our wrists had spread up to our shoulders. The Natural Keyboard Elite allows your wrists to rest in a more natural position. Compare this to the way a standard keyboard makes your elbows pull in and your shoulders scrunch. Plus, despite its odd curvy shape, the keyboard will fit in a square keyboard tray.

In addition to these advantages, the keyboard also offers three shortcut keys, making Windows 95 or 98 easier to use. However, the keyboard does have some drawbacks. The function keys (e.g., F4) and Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys seem overly small and are hard to reach without peeking. Also, the arrow keys have been arranged in a diamond shape, which takes a little getting used to and may be frustrating for gamers.

If you've been using a standard mouse and keyboard, this set could change your whole outlook on working at the computer and help your posture in the process. After a week of wheel-assisted scrolling and natural wrist-positioned typing, we're wondering how we ever worked with anything else. --Ariel Meadow Stallings
